Chapter 44: The Supreme Alpha’s Crazy Family

Jace’s POV

The commotion brought everyone else out of the right quarters, including my mean, evil Aunt Tina, who hated me so much like I was the cause of her misfortune. My uncle was the only one who wasn’t present there.

“And now what?”

Her small, round, dark eyes rolled in their sockets as she looked from her son to me. And when she finally decided to settle her gaze on me, she frowned.

“Jace, can’t you just leave Alex alone for goodness sake?”

So typical of her, she never found fault in whatever her stupid son did. Well, that wasn’t my business at that moment, I just didn’t want them embarrassing me in front of my future Mate. Her first visit to the city to seek audience with the Supreme Alpha mustn’t turn that way lest she keep a bad impression of the crazy family in her mind.

“Jace brought home a lady,”

Alex mocked, tilting his head.

Behind me, Aria’s scoff dropped on my back, then she tapped me.

“I didn’t come here for this. Can we proceed?”

I nodded, smiling at her.

“And who do you think you are, young lady?”

Aunt Tina asked in her ready-to-scold tone. Fortunately, Aria paid no attention to her, she turned her back on them, stepping on the right wing’s stairs.

“Are you deaf?”

“Can you just leave her alone?”

I snapped, glaring at Aunt Tina.

“She didn’t come to see any of you, she is here to…”

“To see you?”

My 16-year-old cousin, Meenah, asked, smirking.

“And who is she if I may ask?”

Aunt Tina asked, staring at Aria suspiciously.

“My woman.”

“What!”

Their eyes snapped wide as they exclaimed.

While they were still in that state, Aria tapped my shoulder and whispered angrily.

“Are you nuts?”

“No, sweetheart, just play along.”

But no, she didn’t play along, she wasn’t willing to.

“Do you hear yourself? Your woman? How dare you!”

Aunt Tina screamed, staggering towards me. She had her hands raised in the air, ready to strike me, but her son was quick to hold her in place. They knew crossing the line would cost them their lives because her husband, the acting Supreme Alpha won’t leave her alone.

“Selena isn’t going to like this.”

Meenah shook her head, clicking her tongue.

“Well, this right here is none of my business. I think I should go call Selena.”

She hissed at Aria, bit her lower lip in anger, and walked away.

Embarrassed enough, I took Aria’s hand and led her to the study room.

“You have one crazy family over here.”

She sighed, shaking her head.

“No matter what you do, do not involve me in your shenanigans! And it is a warning.”

Seeing her talk that way without a filter brought a smile to my face. She looked so cute, strong, and above all, brave.

“What do you even mean by I am your woman?”

She scoffed upsettingly.

“Aren’t you?”

She paused, eyed me, then forcefully took her hand away from me.

“Dude, forget about me pleading with you that day to mark me. I know I was a desperate fool but not anymore. Get your head straight, Jace, just pretend that never happened.”

I couldn’t utter a word. What would I even say? She was right. However, not saying anything didn’t mean I had given up on her.

“Come.”

My uncle’s fragile voice came from the study room when I knocked. Before entering the room, I turned to Aria,

“Do not be scared, my uncle doesn’t bite. Just ask him anything and he won’t hesitate to do it for you. Plus, you can tell him you are my mate.”

She hissed, opened the door, and went in. I followed her, closed the door behind me, and turned around to see my uncle staring at Aria as if he had once seen her before.

“Father?”

He only came back to his senses when I called his name and even with that, he looked so scared, the kind of situation I had never seen him in before.

“Are you alright?”

“Y…yes. Wh… who is this?”

His fingers trembled as he pointed at Aria. And even though he tried to be calm, he couldn’t control it.

“My name is Aria Black, the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack. I have come here to seek your help, the Supreme Alpha. My late father’s adopted daughter has turned rebel and is scheming with the Redmoon Pack to attack the Bloodmoon Pack in secret. Only you can stop them, so I…”

“I can’t help you.”

He interrupted Aria and shot to his feet.

“But father?”

“My decision is final, Jace!”

“But…”

Aria protested, blocking his way.

“You can’t turn me down.”

She signalled with her hand.

“My pack is in danger that only you can…”

“I didn’t push you to look for their trouble!”

He snapped at her angrily.

“We didn’t!”

Aria snapped back. Her eyes were so red that I didn’t know if it was anger or if she was about to cry. But when the atmosphere got so intense, I realized she was angry.

“The Redmoon pack is a home to Rogues that you should have exiled out of the kingdom long ago, but you didn’t! Is it because they are a great help to you? What on earth are they doing for you that you can’t…”

“Get the hell out of here!”

His fingers sprouted, ready to shift into his wolf.

If I hadn’t taken Aria out of the room, I knew my uncle would shift and tear her into pieces. But why was he acting that way towards her?

“Aria?”

Kael hurried towards us and took her hand from me.

“I sensed your anger,”

He touched her face, then turned to me, his face so red.

“What did you do to my sister?”

“It wasn’t him, it was his uncle. Why won’t the Supreme Alpha help me? You said he would do anything for me!”

My uncle had never raised his voice at me before, he had never rejected anyone seeking help before. Why then would he start with Aria? What secret was he hiding?
