Chapter 56: The Life I Never Wanted

Aria’s POV

After I had walked Alpha Hans to the parking lot and was heading back to my office, a deep musk scent filled my nostrils.

The scent was so soothing to my soul that I had to shut my eyes to devour the peaceful energy that came with it.

Since my back was turned to the entrance door and I was facing the elevator, I didn’t know who had entered until Liza started wagging her tail.

‘Mate!’

She howled in excitement.

Joy gushed inside my heart, and as I turned around, my face was filled with happiness. I had wanted to run to him and embrace him, but I had even taken a step before stopping, since no one in my pack had known about him as my mate yet.

I stood where I was, waiting for him to approach me, and when he did, I turned around and headed to my office without uttering a word. Inside the office as soon as Jace shut the door behind him, I lost control and fell into his arms.

“I’ve missed you too.”

He said, soothing my hair.

Actually, I think I missed him the most. Coupled with all that was happening day by day, I still found myself always thinking about him and the day he marked me. I had always wished that day would repeat itself so that we could finish what we started.

I rested my head on his chest after he had sat down on the sofa, inhaling the peaceful scent of my mate.

“I am sorry I wasn’t there to confront you when you were put into that dilemma.”

So much for who said he would lift the entire world for me.

“I saw Alpha Hans’ convoy leaving the company on my way here. What brought him to the pack? Is he troubling you?”

“He isn’t troubling me, he is an acquaintance.”

Jace’s scoff didn’t escape my ears, causing me to look up at his face. He looked so displeased with what I had said.

“Why would you befriend an Alpha?”

What a stupid question. If I weren’t an Alpha myself, how would I be able to befriend other Alphas?

“Because I am one.”

I sat straight.

“But he is a guy.”

“And which other female Alpha do you see in this pack aside from me?”

Jace went quiet, he didn’t know the answer to give to that.

“That isn’t an excuse to…”

“Hold it,”

I shot my hand in the air, stopping him from talking. We were just lovey birds a few minutes ago, so I wasn’t ready to be provoked. A lot was already on my mind to begin with.

“What I do is none of your business.”

He lifted a brow, getting up and looking surprised.

“You are my mate, Aria, i already marked you.”

And that was the problem. That was one thing I never wanted in my life–someone controlling me just because they are my mate. If he had sought my consent, I wouldn’t have given him the go-ahead. I mean, there was no way I could ignore the temptation of his touch, but the marking wasn’t on the list.

“Which was an accident and now, you want me to be stuck with you.”

“No, please, do not say that it was an accident. You and I are destined to be. And I am not lying when I say I love you.”

Gosh! That was just confusing.

“I just don’t want you near the Alphas in this kingdom.”

“And why?”

“Because they will try to…you know…the mind of men is evil.”

“Are you suspecting me?”

“No, that is not what I mean. It’s just…”

“It’s just what? You know what? You can leave. I am not someone you can control. And if you think marking me will give you full authority over me, then you are wrong. My life isn’t one to be decided by anyone anymore, understand?”

He tried to grab my hand as I walked away but I was so quick to withdraw from him.

“Alpha Hans is a dangerous person. After giving you anything you want from him, he will demand something huge from you and if you refuse him, then hell will let loose. He isn’t one to bargain with when it comes to the matters of the pack…”

“Dude! Just forget about poisoning my mind to withdraw from the alliance with Hans. If he is evil and dangerous, that is none of your business. Besides…”

I walked towards him, only pausing when I was so close to him.

“Where were you when the Redmoon pack was torturing Alissa? Did you come to me when you heard she passed away? No, you didn’t. And why? Because you think you are too big for places like that.”

“That’s not true.”

“Then point out the lie from what I said!”

I was already pissed off. One thing I detest the most was being talked down to over what I put my mind to do by someone who wouldn’t help me in any way.

“Aria, let’s not take this too far.”

Oh yeah, I wanted it to get too far so that perhaps he could just scurry out of my life. The stupid things I always felt when I saw him were already messing with my mind: just like the same thing I did when we entered the office.

“Didn’t I tell you that the Redmoon Rogues won’t pressure you anymore?”

And yeah! That reminded me. He did promise me that, but why were they still attacking?

“Nothing has changed, Jace, and nothing is going to change. I will deal with them myself because this is my fight!”

“With Alpha Hans?”

Not only Alpha Hans, but everyone willing to cut off the Rogues’ way of life.

“Yes.”

He exhaled deeply, shaking his head.

“Don’t you think the same people you are seeking for help with are the same people behind all that is happening?”

What on earth was that? Was he supporting the Rogues?

“Regan promised they would never trouble you or your pack again and i believed in his word.”

“Oh, realy? You didn’t tell me you are one of Regan’s minions.”

I had enough of it because it seemed like Jace was only going to waste my time and it was obvious that he was backing the Rogues.

“For your information, Jace, i ain’t a fool to think the Rogues aren’t behind Alissa’s death. Both he and the Supreme Alpha have a hand in this so,”

I stepped closer until there was only an inch separating us.

“Tell your uncle that he is next. When I am done with Regan, I will come after him!”
