Chapter 63: Reclaiming the Throne

Jace’s POV

Gasps echoed in the air from the crowd present there.

“Selene followed me because she knew you guys had sent someone to shoot me. She took the bullet to save me!”

So that was their plan: to take my life and make their son the next heir to the Supreme Alpha’s throne.

“That is so bad of them…”

Whispers broke out, loud enough for everyone to hear.

“They killed their own daughter and are pointing fingers at the Supreme Alpha…”

“I know this family had a hidden secret. So they plan to kill the real heir to the throne.”

“They want their lazy son to take over as the Supreme Alpha.”

As the people spoke, my uncle and his family began acting nervously because they had been caught in the act.

“Step down from the throne and let the real heir ascend!”

People started shouting, ignoring that we were all in the hospital and would disturb the patients there.

“Jace’s father was the supreme Alpha and the reason you were put on the throne was that he was too young to rule!”

“Why won’t you step down now that he has come of age?!”

“You even tried to kill him so the title would go to your lineage!”

Shamelessly, my uncle and his family covered their faces and scurried out of the hospital, leaving their dead daughter behind.

I didn’t leave the hospital that day until Selene’s body was transferred to the mortuary, awaiting a funeral. That was what her dad or brother were supposed to do, but they decided to save their faces and ran away.

“Summon the elders.”

I ordered my assistant as soon as I stepped out of the hospital.

“Who should I say is seeking their audience?”

“The supreme Alpha.”

His face brightened up and after opening and closing the car door for me, I saw him making a call, his face filled with excitement.

Before I arrived at the mansion, the elders were already present and had joined the family in mourning. And as soon as they saw me, they got up, bowing their heads.

“When your assistant said the supreme Alpha had summoned us, we thought it was your uncle who had called us back.”

“No, it was me. I found out my uncle had introduced his son to you as the heir to the throne so I called you here to take what belongs to me.”

“You mean you are finally taking over the throne? Thank goodness!”

My uncle and his family, who were at the far end of the large sitting room, kept staring at us as if, if they had the chance, they would come over to hear what I was discussing with the elders.

The elders looked happy about the revelation but deep down in their hearts, I knew they weren’t happy about it.

To them, if I became the supreme Alpha, I would rule them just like my father had once done. But if Alex ascended the throne, he would take over his father’s footsteps. And I knew all that because I’d once heard them discussing it.

“Has your uncle agreed to it?”

One of the elders asked, drawing my attention to him. Among the rest who had shown their support and were pretending to be happy, he was the only one who hadn’t said a word or shown any emotion.

“Must he agree to return what belongs to me?”

He shook his head, sighing.

“That is not what I mean, Jace. The thing is…since he has been on the throne for quite a few years now, he must acknowledge that you are ready and fit for the throne.”

“And if he doesn’t?”

I asked him because he looked like he could stop me from ascending that throne if he had the opportunity.

“Then we will be left with no choice but to step out of it.”

I chuckled, getting up from the chair.

“Either he agrees or not, I am taking back that throne. And if you guys like, you can back him or me. If you try any shit with me, you will be my lab rat as soon as I reclaim that position.”

Others were terrified by the threats, except the elder.

“Forget what he said, Jace. Your uncle must hand over that position, whether he likes it or not since it wasn’t passed down to him by your grandfather.”

After they left my place, they returned to where the family was while I stepped out to get things ready.

I wasn’t going to stay in that mansion when I became the Supreme Alpha, I was going to move out because I trust them not.

“So this is how you want to play it, Jace?”

My uncle asked at night when the mourners had left the mansion.

“You should be lucky that I ain’t charging you for trying to take my life.”

He nodded, biting his lower lip in anger.

“Anyways, after the ascension ceremony tomorrow, I will be moving out of this mansion to the one I bought for myself. You and your family can keep this as a farewell gift.”

I stepped closer to him until there was no space left between us.

“If you or any of your family members tries to repeat what you did today, I swear, I will not spare you or them, I must see your end!”

He nodded, chuckling.

“You’ve grown up, Jace, you’ve indeed grown up. But this isn’t the end!”

With that, he stormed out of the room.

The next day at 10am, everyone in the city including the elders had gathered in the ascension hall except my uncle and his family. Not even the king was present which confirmed my suspicion that they were working hand in hand.

If he liked, the king could stop me from ascending that throne but the words of the people were powerful so he left me alone and showed his displeasure by not coming.

He didn’t even send a delegate, nor were any of the royal family present. Anyways, that wasn’t even a problem, the only thing on my mind was just reclaiming what was mine to start a new era.

“The ceremony will now start.”

The elders called me forward, made me kneel on the stage and after they were done with all the rituals, they announced me as the Supreme Alpha.

And when I was invited to give a speech, my first order shocked everyone, but jubilation followed later.

“Starting from today, the Rogues have no place in this kingdom and their abode is no longer a pack.”
