Chapter 75: Going Against My Brother’s Warning

Aria’s POV

That wasn’t a question. Kael knew I was going out to see Jace. I sighed shortly, spun around, my face stern.

“Yes. Is there any problem with that?”

He shook his head, then shut his eyes for a few seconds before opening them.

“Why, Aria?”

“Why?”

He was asking me why.

“Didn’t you hear when we told you Jace’s family was…”

“And so what?”

I cut him off.

“What if that happened between the families? Do you know what caused it? Do you care to dig deep into the situation? Do you know if Jace’s family is innocent?”

“Are you insinuating that our family is at fault? And that our parents died for their sins?”

Kael’s eyes were turning red, and the hair on his skin was rising.

“What if that is the case? All you guys have always done is stop me from going any closer to Jace. He is my mate, Kael, and nobody can stop me from seeing him!”

I thundered at him, my voice echoing in the building like thunder.

Kael lunged towards me like the wind, his aura becoming so strong that it was causing my breath to shorten.

“If you dare step out of this house to go see Jace, you will regret it, Aria!”

He spoke slowly, but his voice was so deep and terrifying. It sounded as though he was speaking in a heavy wind and the wind was twirling it around like in a horror movie.

Surprisingly, that didn’t scare me. It only provoked me more. I flipped my hair back, letting it bounce on my back, and closed the distance between us.

“Nothing will happen, Kael! Touch me and you will regret messing with the wrong person!”

I wasn’t surprised by my confidence because that wasn’t the first time I was talking back to Kael that way. Ever since I succeeded in letting out my wolf for the first time, things hadn’t been the same anymore. Nothing scares me, nothing pulls me down, even if it is dangerous, I must always walk through it.

“Are you…”

My hand grabbed his hand before it touched my body.

“The next time you try to lay your finger on me, Kael, I will cut off your hand to send warnings to everyone in this pack!”

“What is your deal, Aria?!”

Elias shouted, pulling my hand away from Kael’s.

“Why are you always rebelling against Kael? None of us has ever done any of the things you’ve been doing to me. How many times do I need to remind you that as our oldest brother, we must respect…”

“Cut me the slack, Elias!”

I cut him short.

“You guys are only scared to stand up for your rights but I am not! If Kael keeps standing in my way, I won’t stop fighting for my right!”

Didn’t he say that, as the Alpha leader I was responsible for making the decisions that would favor me? Why then would he always try to be the obstacle?

“You know what? I think I should leave the mansion for you guys so that you will finally find peace!”

With that said, I stormed out of the house.

Jace was already waiting at the location when I arrived there. And as soon as he saw me, he leapt to his feet and hurried towards me.

“Are you alright, Aria? You look so pissed off.”

I pulled my hands away from him and sat down on a chair.

“Sit, I don’t have too much time to waste here.”

He bobbed his head, confusion all over his face as he sat down on the chair in front of me separated by the desk.

“I heard a terrible thing yesterday, Jace, something that is threatening to break us apart.”

“What!”

He shot to his feet, his fists on the desk.

“Who is trying to separate us, Aria?”

“The secret between our families.”

“And what is that?”

He asked, still looking so confused.

“What secret are you talking about?”

“A lot, Jace, and I think they are all connected to my disappearance.”

I stopped talking, calming down my mind from exploding in anger. I just knew that seeing Jace and talking to him about that would cause me to lose it.

“I am listening.”

He sat back down, his eyes fixed on me.

“What do you know about my parents’ death?”

He raised a brow, curiosity clearly on his face.

“Nothing.”

“Do not lie to me.”

“I swear I know nothing. Is there something you want to tell me?”

“Your father caused my parents’ deaths?”

“What!”

Jace shot up on his feet again, this time, his fingers had sprouted and they were digging deep into the desk.

The hair on his body had risen, and his eyes were as red as a burning flame. Not only that, but it looked like his sweat glands had exploded because he was suddenly soaked in sweat.

“Are you out of your mind, Aria?!”

“No, I am not, Jace! Your family took away our joy!”

“And who told you it is my parents who took away your joy? They aren’t murderers, they were also killed!”

He probably must have known that his action was uncalled for because he suddenly inhaled deeply, shut his eyes and when he opened them, they were no longer red.

“I am sorry for the way I reacted, but my parents would never do that. Trust me.”

Trust?

That word no longer had a place in my heart. And I didn’t think it ever would.

“My father was a good person, and so was my mother. Everyone in this kingdom remembers them as one of the best leaders they’ve ever had. Whoever told you about that has definitely lied to you, Aria. Maybe they don’t want us together…”

Could they have formulated that story just to make me stay away from Jace?

But they looked so serious when they were saying that. Even though they all have their own flaws, my brothers have never lied to me about anything. They’ve never formed a story to prevent me from doing anything.

Saying the Supreme Alpha’s family was behind our parents’ deaths was one of the fastest ways to be accused of treason especially if they don’t have the evidence. But they all looked like they possessed good evidence to back up their claims.

“You know what?”

He reached for my hand but this time, I didn’t pull away because I needed it so much.

“Let’s investigate this together. And if at the end we find out that my parents were behind it, I will compensate you and make things right. Your brothers will never accept me if that happens, and you wouldn’t want anything to do with the son of murderers. But I promise you, I will give you the best life if you give me another chance.”

Would giving him another chance be possible if what my brothers said turned out to be the truth?

Wouldn’t it be like forcing myself to love who I don’t love? What if I end up killing him then?
