Chapter 24 (LIFE SAVER)

Emily wanted to open her eyes immediately they left but then she heard the girl speaking.

“I wonder what she got here.” She heard her footsteps going close to her bag. “Let’s check it out.” The girl opened Emily’s bag and exclaimed. “Wow!”

“She have lots of dresses in here.” She opened the second bag again “Shoes and cosmetics. Let’s check the other one.” She reached for the second bag and before she could open it, Emily sat upright.

“What are you doing?” She Questioned her. Instead of the girl to be shocked, she acted like she didn’t care. She went ahead to open the bag but Emily grabbed her hand.

“What do you think you are doing? Un hand me!” She beat Emily’s hand. “What do you want with my bags? Get away from here.” She snapped back.

“She told me to take care of you and that’s what am doing.” Emily Sneered, no one will take that as helping. “You want to steal my things.” She pushed her away and dragged the bag to herself.

“You pushed me!” The girl yelled at her. “Yes I did.” Emily rolled her eyes. “You were pretending right? You pretended you faint just so you won’t have to do any work today! I’ll tell her!” She stood on her feet.

“Go tell her, I don’t care.” Emily put the bag on the bed and rested her head on it. “Really? Then I’ll do that.” To her amusement, the lady went out of the room.

“Who cares.” Emily sat upright. She drew the bag to herself and opened the zipper. “Who knows I’ll be needing this.” The bag was filled with different drinks and cookies even lollipop. It was the biggest of the bag and Emily brought out a bottle of drink and a cookie bag.

“If I hide this very well, I won’t starve to death here.” She quickly started eating and drinking. After she was done, she dumped the empty bag and can inside the bag and pushed it under the bed. She covered the bed with a bedsheet hiding the bag from ever angle.

“This is wonderful!” Emily lay down on the bed and closed her eyes. She was already regaining her energy.

“Why are you here?” Harry’s Mum asked the leader of the maids who has gone to see her. She despised seeing them anywhere close to the apartment not to talk of inside.

“I’m sorry I broke the rules by coming here. The lady you brought earlier on has fainted, I don’t think she can do any of that work.” The woman said worriedly.

“Are you suggesting I bring her back here?” Mum asked her. “Yes Ma’am, please forgive her for what she has done to you. Her son needs her, you shouldn’t punish her by taking away her son from her and keeping her in our Quarters. She’s not use to that kind of work.” The woman pleaded.

“Come again!” she gasped. “Are you tired of your work?” she asked and the woman quickly fell on her knees. “No Ma’am, I’m so sorry.” She apologized. “Good. The next time you come in here to talk about Emily, I’ll make sure I send you out of the house!” she threatened her. “Now, leave!” She pointed to the door.

“I’m so sorry Ma’am.” She apologized and hurried out of the apartment. “Oh my God! I would have put myself in trouble by being a good Samaritan.” She sighed heavily on her way going back to the Servants Quarters.

“Hey, where are you going?” She saw the girl she instructed to keep an eye on Emily going back into the garden. “Ma’am, she didn’t faint. She pretended just so she could go inside and rest.” The lady said angrily.

“Wait, what!” She exclaimed. “Take me there now!” The lady led the way and they went inside the quarters. She opened the door but found Emily lying on the bed.

The woman went closer to Emily’s bunk bed and yelled her name but Emily didn’t answer her. She kicked the bed and still, Emily didn’t answer her.

“Didn’t you say she is pretending?” she asked the girl. The girl was surprised on how Emily did that. “I left her here just few minutes ago. She was dragging a bag with me. I’ll wake her up.” She went closer to Emily and slapped her face.

“Ouch!” Emily sat upright, covering her face. “Are you nuts!” she yelled at the lady angrily. “So it’s true.” The woman chuckled. “Emily, you would have put me in to trouble. I went to talk to the mistress to set you free and nearly lost my job in turn. But here you are!”

“I… I didn’t pretend I fainted, I’m so weak.” Emily tried to lye down again but the girl stopped her. “You are weak?” The woman asked her. “Yes Ma’am, I’m hungry.”

The woman took pity on Emily. She knew the pain Emily was going through at that moment even though she tried to hid it.

“Go bring her food to eat,” she said to the girl there. “But ma’am.” She turned to her. “You heard me right. Get her something to eat!” She commanded. The lady looked at Emily in anger and left the room.

“Emily, do not try this again. If you can’t do anything, talk to me and I’ll find a replacement. And again, meet me if you need anything,” she smiled at her and walked out of the room. Emily was dumbfounded, that woman’s smile was just like her Mum’s and it made her remembered her Mum.

Emily sighed, she supported her chin with her hand and exhaled deeply.

“This life is full of surprises.” She shook her head.

“If only there’s a way to right all this.” She thought out loud. Just then, an idea crept in her head and she grinned Mischievously
