Chapter 25 (STARTLED)

Next morning, she woke up as early as possible before the other Servants could wake up. Emily had a plan, she would sneak in to Harry’s apartment and take Jeff then run away with him.

It was so easy for her to entered the apartment because the door wasn’t locked. But one thing, she didn’t know the room Jeff was. If he was in Mum’s room, she would never get to take him. She tiptoed upstairs, opened the door of her room slowly but Jeff wasn’t on the bed.

She closed the door and then went to Harry’s room. Jeff wasn’t on his bed too and she closed the door.

“Where could he be?” She wondered. Then she decided to go check the room she close to Mum’s, the room she slept on the first day she came to the house.

And there on he bed, Jeff was sleeping with no worries. She quickly picked him up gently to avoid waking him up and left the room. Emily got down the stairs without making any sound but just as she was about to exit the apartment, Harry caught up with her.

“What do you think you are doing?” She was startled. She turned around and found him approaching her. Emily would have run away but if she did, Harry would alert the guards and they’ll catch her.

“What do you see me doing?” she asked him. “Give me my child,” he said but she held on to Jeff tightly. “I won’t.” She protested. “Look, just give him to me if you don’t want my Mum to come down here and see you,” he said but Emily wouldn’t hand over the child.

“Emily, give him to me and go away! Mum won’t take it easy with you when she come down now and see you holding Jeff,” he warned her.

“I won’t hand him over, I’m going away with him. Very far away. How could you think of doing something terrible as this? Jeff is also my child, you are so heartless.”

Jeff woke up and started crying.

“Hand him over!” he whispered “I won’t.” Emily turned to leave but he grabbed her and took Jeff away from her. “Go out now before Mum comes down!” he said but she didn’t move. “Give me my child.”

“Look Emily, if you don’t go out now, I’ll take Jeff out of this house. I’ll take him somewhere you would never see him again,” he threatened. “You dare not, you monster.” She sniffed.

“Who’s out there? Can’t you hear the baby is crying?” Came his Mum’s voice from her room. “Emily, go.” He pushed her out and locked the door. “What are you doing there?” His Mum asked coming down the stairs.

“Nothing, Mum.” “But I think I heard a voice.” She looked around. “That’s me talking to Jeff,” Harry smiled. “He’s crying. Bring him here.” She took Jeff from him and sat on the sofa.

“I think he’s hungry. Where’s the Servant?” she asked Harry. “I don’t know, Mum.” He sat beside her. “I thought I told her not to fall asleep and watch over Jeff.”

Emily heard her called the maid and she heard when Mum told her to go bring milk for Jeff. Tears dropped from her eyes, she wanted to give him only breast milk for six months but she was deprived of that.

She walked away from the apartment cleaning the tears in her face. It wasn’t so easy, she wished she had hurried out even when Harry was speaking to her.

“Where have you been?” Emily raised up her head and saw the leader standing in front of her. “I… I…” Fresh tears rolled down her face. “You went there right?” she asked and Emily nodded her head.

“Why would you go there, you want to put yourself in to another trouble?” The woman sighed. “Emily, you have to be brave. Stay away from that place for now. I know how painful it is but you have to endure it.” She held her hand.

“But he’s my child and I want him back.” She sniffed. “I know, have patience and everything will be back to normal,” Emily nodded her head. She cleaned the tears with the back of her hand. “Now let’s get out of here before anyone sees you here.” She took her hand and walked away with her.

8:30 am

Emily sat on a bench inside the garden, she was holding a flower scissors in her hand not knowing what to do.

“Hey princess, waiting for prince charming?” Emily already knew who it was and she ignored her. “You don’t ignore me when I’m speaking to you.” She took the scissors from her hand.

“Can you just leave me alone? I have no time for your bullying,” Emily gasped. “You call this bullying? You’ve never been bulky in your life before if not, you won’t call this bullying.”

“What’s your name?” Emily asked her. “Naomi. Why?” she said and Emily grinned. “Naomi, you have a nice name and you are pretty. Why are you like this?” Emily asked her. “Because I don’t like you,” she said.

“Naomi, go pour your frustrations somewhere else. Do not come close to me again,” she warned and stood up from the bench. “Or what, what would you do?” Naomi asked her. “I don’t have to tell you.”

“You won’t do anything to me, Emily. I’ll only agree you’ll do something to me if you can get back your son.” Emily raised a brow. She wondered how the girl knew about that.

“You think I don’t know? All of us here know what’s going on. A surrogate who ran away with the child and was caught back because of her greediness,” Naomi laughed. “You would have been living a luxurious life now if you just handed over the child after giving birth to him and go away. I’m sure Harry would have added something in your account more than he gave you for the first time.”
