Chapter 75 (YOUR LIFE IS PRECIOUS)

“Where did they go?” he asked again. “I don’t know but they were in hurry when they left.”

“Okay, go call Ron for me,” he said and the maid hurried out of the apartment. “Did something happen? Let’s see if Ron knows.” He went back to the room and within few minutes, Ron came.

“Do you know where Grandma and Emily went to?” he asked him. “I think they went to the hospital,” he said. “The hospital, why?” he asked Surprisingly. “I saw them coming out of the servant's quarters. I think one of the servant’s sick.”

“Oh okay.” Harry shifted on the bed. “I’m hungry.” He said to Ron. “What do you want to eat?” he asked. Harry didn’t even know what to tell him. “Forget about it, I’ll wait for Emily to return.” Ron bowed his head and left the room.

“Ma’am, Naomi’s leg pain is as a result of BMF. We have made some tests and it showed that it was passed down to her from one of her parents. Meaning she inherited it.” The doctor explained.

“What’s a BMF?” Emily asked, she looked at Grandma whose expression has changed. “Bone marrow failure.” The doctor said. “Bone marrow failure? Is it that bad?” Emily asked.

“Yes since it has reached a chronic stage, I’m afraid she might be going for surgery.” Grandma lifted up her head when the doctor said that. “A surgery?” She asked and the doctor nodded his head.

“The earlier we do the surgery, the better. If we don’t do it now, it might damage her leg and it would have to be amputated.”

“No!” Michael exclaimed. “Please give us some minutes,” Grandma said to the doctor. She signaled to Emily to meet her outside and she followed her.

“Emily, we have to inform their parents,” she said. “Grandma, I… I…” Emily didn’t know what to say. She wanted to tell her that Evelyn was their Mum when Michael interrupted them.

“We have no parents.” Grandma turned to him Surprisingly. “Even one?” she asked and he nodded his head. “Our Mum abandoned us and our Dad’s dead.” Grandma felt bad for him. She sighed and turned to Emily.

“I’ll take care of the bills. But our problem now is Naomi, would she agree to the surgery?” she said worriedly. “I’ll speak with her.” Michael said. “Please do so. Go in now and talk to her, let’s not waste time over this.” Michael left to the room Naomi was admitted in the emergency unit.

“Emily, it’s better she undergo the surgery. She would be fine after that. Evelyn too went through that and we had a surgery done on her when she clocked 13” Grandma turned around after saying that and left.

“God!” Emily shook her head. “She passed this to her child and yet, she abandoned them saying because they are sick,” Emily sighed. “Some mother’s don’t deserve to be one.” She went to the room and found Michael trying to convince Naomi.

“Naomi, listen to me. The doctor said you have a blood marrow failure and you need this surgery. If you don’t do it now, your leg might be amputated in the future.” He said worriedly.

“I’m not against the surgery but I don’t want them to pay the bill.” She had her back turned to him. “Naomi, it doesn’t matter if they are the ones that paid or not. Your life is the only thing we need. Forget about the hate you have for Evelyn. Since she isn’t the one that would pay, then I see no problem with that.” Michael said and she chuckled.

“For me, any money that would come out from any of them sounds like it’s from her. I’m not interested. I can stay like this until help come.”

“Naomi, the Bill’s on me.” Naomi turned around and saw Emily smiling at her. She carried Jeff in a baby carrier in front of her. “You? Where did…” Emily giggled. She moved closer to the bed and held her hand.

“It’s the rest of the money from my Dad’s surgery,” she said. “But you need it,” Emily smiled. “Yes I need it, I need it to treat someone close to my heart. And that person is you. Naomi, please do not turn down my offer,” Naomi sighed.

“I’ll repay you.” Emily patted her back softly and looked at Michael. “Thank you so much Emily, we’ll repay you.” Emily only smiled at them. She left the room to go inform Grandma to go ahead and make the payment.

“Grandma, she agreed.” Emily smiled going to where she was sitting. “She did? Wonderful!”

They left the place together and made the payment in the reception. And by 6:30pm, Naomi was taken to the surgery room. Grandma would have left if not for Michael that was crying. He was so scared that he would never see his sister again.

“She’ll come out and be fine. You know my daughter, Evelyn. She went through this too when she was young and had her surgery at 13. She’s okay now and so will your sister.” Grandma patted his back.

“Your daughter went through what Naomi is going through?” Michael asked her and she nodded her head. She was surprised by his question because that was what she said to him.

“She went through that and abandoned us when she found out Naomi was having BMF.” Michael uttered under his breath. He looked at Grandma who was staring at him.

“Our Mum that abandoned us passed this to my sister.” He sniffed. “That was so bad of her. How could she abandoned her kids because of their sickness.” She shook her head.

“Grandma, what would you do to your Mum if she abandon you?” Michael asked. He has stopped crying and had cleaned the tears on his face.
