The Billionaire’s Surrogate
Chapter 88 (GOD SENT)
Chapter 88
“Sure.” She stood up from the bed and brought out another picture from the wardrobe.
“You see this?” She handed it to Emily. “That’s my husband and my daughter.” Emily looked at the two people in the picture. “Hanna is 19 years now and her Dad, a butcher. His business ran down when Hanna fell sick at the age of 10. Since then, we fed from hand to mouth. There was nothing left at home again and we nearly sold out house.”
She looked at Emily who was listening attentively.
“Hanna dropped out of school and started taking any part time jobs she could find. Her father too, tried every job he could lay his hand on but nothing came out of it. He’s now staying at home now while I and Hanna work and find money. I’m not allowed to go home to see my family. One time, my husband came visiting but Ma’am Evelyn threatened she would fire me when next my husband come and I stopped him from coming.”
“She once saw Hanna too, Hanna was 16 then. And she told me to bring Hanna to see her. I thought she was going to help my girl back to school not knowing she was trying to make her become a servant too. I had to involve Grandma before Evelyn release my girl but she made me promised her that I’ll serve a life time in the house.”
“All the works I do, I demanded my salary be paid in to my girl’s account so that she and her Dad could use the money and have a good life. I don’t know if Evelyn is sending them the money or not.” She cleaned the drops of tears on her face.
“Oh no.” Was the only thing Emily could utter. “Do you have your daughter’s number?” Emily asked her. “Yes, I have their numbers written in a book.” She sniffed. “Then you should call and ask how they are doing.” Emily suggested.
“I don’t have a phone. Evelyn took all our phones from us,” she said. “I have a phone, you can use mine.” She brought out her own phone from the pocket and gave it to her. Gloria brought out the book from the wardrobe again. She dialed her husband’s number but it was switched off.
“It’s off,” she said to Emily. “Then try Hanna’s.” She typed Hanna’s number and dialed it. “It’s ringing.” Gloria’s face lit up. “Hello, please call later, I’m…”
“Hannah, it’s Mum,” Gloria said before Hannah could end the call. “Mummy!” She heard something fell from her hand. “Hannah, it’s me. How are you?”
“Mum!” Hanna was already in tears. “Mummy where are you?” she asked over the phone. “I’m still in the house. That house. Where’s your Dad? I called but his phone was off.” Gloria cleaned the tears again.
“Dad is home, he sold his phone. Mum when are you coming home? We missed you a lot. Mummy, can I come over to the house? I want to see you again.” Hanna cried. “Hanna I…” She heard someone shouting on Hanna over the phone.
“Mum, we’ll talk later. I’m at work.” Hanna disconnected the call. “My baby is still working.” She sobbed. “Everything will be over in no time. You’ll see your daughter and your husband. And I’ll also see my cousin, I can’t wait to see her,” Emily smiled.
“Thank you so much Emily.” Gloria hugged her. “I’ll never forget your kindness,” Emily smiled. When she thought she doesn’t have anyone again. “I have to get going, Harry would be looking for me now. I’m glad I met you here.”
Emily stood up, she carried Jeff and left the room. Madam Gloria walked her out of the Quarters and she returned back after Emily has entered the apartment.
She was so happy that day that she finally showed Emily the picture. She has wanted to show it to her the first time Emily was taken to the Servant's Quarters but decided to wait and observe her first.
Emily was just like her Mum, lovely and kind. No one knew why Lilly changed when she brought Emily’s Dad home. It was as if he charmed her because Lilly always fought with everyone because of him.
She returned back to the apartment, Jeff was still sleeping and as she was going to her room to put him on bed before going to Harry’s room, he heard Harry’s voice from his room.
“Harry?” She entered the room and found him sitting on the floor. He was holding a phone on his left ear. “I’ll call you back,” he said to the person he was speaking with when Emily came to the room.
“What are you doing?” she asked him. “I was on call. Where did you go?” he asked her. Emily out Jeff on the bed and sat in front of him. “Are you done with the book?” She pointed to the first in front of him. “Yes,” he smiled. “And?”
“I feel nothing. I’ve already promised myself that I won’t let it get in to me again like the first time. I’ve overcome this.” He smiled. “Awn that’s my boy.” She smiled at him.
“And your face. What prompted you to cry?” he asked. Emily touched her face and sighed. “There are things in this world which we don’t know.” She shook her head.
“What did you find out again?” he asked her. “I found out that… that Madam Gloria is my Mum’s sister.” She giggled. “Madam Gloria, you mean from the Servant’s Quarters?” Emily nodded her head.
“Wow! What a small world,” she nodded her head. “She once told me I look like someone she knew and today, she showed me the picture. Who would believe I will see someone related to my mum? I thought I have no one left in the world,” she smiled.
