Chapter 107: The Red Device

Oh, they knew. Greg smiled. Which only meant one thing. The servants were well informed. Well, who wouldn’t, after the engagement disaster?

He was about to answer when the security man took him by surprise. He fiddled with the gates and the next second, the small gate was wide opened.

“Y-You’re here for Young Miss.” He repeated his question.

And Greg didn’t see why he shouldn’t nod. He stared into the man’s eyes. He appeared frantic and anxious.

Well. Good thing he knew who he was dealing with.

“I- I won’t let you in. You can’t be here for any good. Young Miss doesn’t want to see anyone….”

He pointed his gun up and continued muttering words which didn’t make sense to him. Wasn’t it obvious he wasn’t here for any good? And how could she not want to see him now? Who would infact want to see someone at this hour? And did she have a choice?

He laughed at the man’s expression and gave him a sympathetic look.

“Don’t make things hard. Put down the gun.” Greg waved at the gun pointed to him. He was sure as hell it was an expensive one. This family sure did trained their guards well. And he felt the need to let the man off. At least, he appeared anxious.

But the foolish man was unrelenting and he cocked his gun once more.

“I’ll shoot. Young Miss is not—”

“Oh, you won’t.”

Greg didn’t let him finish his words. The man had wasted more than enough of his time. His hands in a flash. One hand snatched the gun and the other hand went to the back of his neck.

The security man gave him a wide-eyed look, shocked and stunned, before he collapsed to the ground and his eyes flickered close.

Greg shook his head and shoved the phone inside the pocket. If the others behaved, he wouldn’t need to use it.

And this one. He might take hours before waking up.

So he marched forward, heading straight to the large doors. His eyes roamed around the house. A nice place.

It was illuminated everywhere. Well, no servants were in sight. Even if they were, then they must be asleep.

He brought out his phone again and checked out the tracker. He was approaching. The location was not far. The right side. She should be at the top of the stairs.

He pushed the large doors open without any difficulty. The place was quiet. Too quiet. Not even the sound of an animal could be heard.

They didn’t have any pets. That was good.

He checked his phone again and sauntered up the stairs, while taking his time to admire the interior. Classy designs. That was a great taste. His old man was only interested in everything ancient.

Greg kept his eyes on his phone as he neared the end of the stairs. A lot of doors in the hallway. Well, it wouldn’t be hard to locate the right one.

The doors were very far apart. It was an added advantage. The tracker would lead him to the right one without him having to open the doors and take a look inside.

And the tracker did do its job.

The red arrow on his phone’s screen kept pointing ahead. Until he passed one door. Then another. And another. Until it came to a stop at the fourth door.

This was her room. His lips curled into a smile and he pocketed his phone.

If the button was in there, then the one that pressed should also be. It might be her or anyone else. He didn’t give a damn.

Because he wasn’t going to step out of this house today. Unless he had to leave with her.

His hand went to the door and he turned it. The door was unlocked. Another headstart. He shook his head and chuckled. Maybe the universe was with him after all. Things were going so easy. He wasn’t even breaking a sweat.

He pushed the door open and stepped inside the room. And the first thing that made his eyes. Pink. Everything was pink. He had come to the right place. The whole room screamed of her. Everything was in soft tones and colors.

He closed the door behind him and stepped further into the room, his eyes wandering around, taking in everything in its sight.

Her touch was everywhere. He could almost feel her presence in every of the materials. They all complimented her perfect. The fancy bookshelve. The cartoon poster. The stuffy rug with a cartoon print. The cartoon posters on the wall. Hell! She was too innocent.

When his eyes went to the gifts in a corner. The many boxes of gifts. He need not to ask what they were for. And his fists clenched at the sight. He took in a deep breath to quell the rising emotion in him.

That wasn’t what had brought him. The most important thing was her. And she was laying on the bed and had her back to him, deeply asleep without a care in the world.

No. Maybe she did care. Because as he walked closer and got a clear view of her, she was holding something under the sheets. She was holding it to her chest. A book. A small pink book. She was holding a book and definitely not the red device.

Because the device was somewhere else. The red device was sitting on the bedside table, not far from her. And now, Greg was a hundred percent sure that she had been the one that pressed it.

And why would she?

The question returned and a frown marred his forehead. His eyes lingered on her sleeping figure. While his thoughts lingered on the question.

And he soon got his answer. Everything became clear when he stepped forward and had a closer look at her.

On her face was many streaks of tears. Somes where dried while others were fresh. Because she seemed to be crying, even in her sleep.
