The Mischievous CEO Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 109: Her Anxiousness
Chapter 109
Her hold tightened around him as she sobbed out each words. And Greg’s guilt magnified as every one of her words reached his ears. The feeling was deep in his bones. The feeling that she hadn’t abandon him. He had been the one that had let her go. And now, she needed his help. She truly needed his help.
He knew he should be happy at that knowledge, but the guilt wouldn’t let him. He had been the biggest jerk of the century. He was a coward for having those thoughts.
Greg found himself hugging her back. Damnit, he didn’t deserve to. Part of her pain was because of him. He had been blinding by his negative feelings and— jealousy. He thought she had left him for good. And now, he was suffering. They were both suffering. If she hadn’t pressed the button, what would have happened?
The heck that he even had the idea of forcing her. When all she wanted was to come with him. She needed his help.
Even when he hugged her back and his warmth enveloped her, Lucy still couldn’t believe this wasn’t a dream. No. She was still sleeping and drowning in those horrible nightmares. The nightmares that Cedric was coming after her while she searched far and wide for Greg.
The sight of that button had brought her the brutal reality. She couldn’t marry Cedric no matter what. Whatever plan was made, even if it would eventually turn out in her favor, she just couldn’t. Despite knowing it was too late and she couldn’t get Greg’s help anymore. She was even too ashamed to ask for his help.
She didn’t press the button. She was too afraid to. Because never in her mind had she ever thought Greg would come to help her. She didn’t press it even though she had had the urge to.
But one way or the other, the button must have triggered. And when she realized how, she couldn’t believe her luck. She had luck left after all. The button had been triggered while she was flipping the pages opened. And Greg was here. He came here for her.
This was too good to be true. And she still wanted to think it was a dream. But she wanted to believe more than anything, that it was the reality. She was awake and Greg was right here with her.
“It’s alright, Princess.” His voice was soothing and somehow strained. Was he feeling the same pain she was currently feeling.
It was hard not to agree. Everyone witnessing her current state must be a rock not to be affected. Lucy knew she looked miserable right now. She was more than miserable. But all was going to be fine. Greg was here for her. And he was going to free her out of these shackles of fears and anxieties.
“It’s so scary, Greg,” she confessed. “I– I thought it was over. You wouldn’t help me anymore. And my life was going to end.”
“I don’t have a choice, Princess.” Greg chuckled. He sounded sad and helpless. “And your life can’t end, don’t say such things. Because, If anything happens to you, mine will end as well.”
Selfless. He was too selfless. How could he be this good? How could he be this good to her? He didn’t have a choice but to help her. Of course he had a choice. Greg could happen her and nothing would happen. But he didn’t. He came for her. In the middle of the night at that. Because he was still willing to help her. Despite everything, he never gave up on her.
“Shhhh, don’t cry.” He gave her back a gentle caress. “We don’t want to wake others, right?” He murmured softly.
Lucy hiccuped and shook her head slowly. She didn’t want other people to wake up and find Greg here. She didn’t want her parents to see—
Wait, her parents. His words registered on her head and her pupils expanded. H–How did he get here? How was he able to pass the security? And how did he know her room?
Reality kicked in and she gave him a baffled look.
“Greg?”
“Let’s get out of here first, Princess. Then I’ll answer all your questions.”
Greg gave her a rueful smile and pressed a hand on her lips to shut her. The questions must have been written all over her face. He obviously knew what she was thinking.
Lucy bit her lips and she gave him a nod. She wouldn’t want to prolong things. When she glanced at the clock, it was two in the morning. They had to leave as soon as possible. Someone might wake up and— no, that would be horrible.
She pulled away from the hug and attempted to get down the bed. They had to leave. She had to get her sleepers, and—
She let out a soft gasp as Greg suddenly scooped her into his arms. He rose to his feet and reached for the bedside table to pick the red device. And the only thing Lucy got to carry, was her diary.
Not that she minded. She would leave everything behind. As long as they were going to get out of here soon.
“Relax, Princess,” Greg said in a smooth voice as he carried her out of the room. Only a subtle smile was left on his lips and when she looked into his eyes, they were several shades darker. She could notice various emotions in them. Emotions that she couldn’t pinpoint. The only thing prominent in his features was the pain. The pain incited out of sympathy. At her misery.
Lucy nodded to his request and wrapped her arms around his neck. As they descended stairs, she took in deep breaths to calm the rapid beatings of her heart.
Her heart was beating rapidly. However, it wasn’t because of anxieties or fears. Those were long gone.
Her rapid heartbeat was due to anxiousness. She was anxious for them to get out of this place as soon as possible.
