The Mischievous CEO Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 110: Anticipating The Gloom
Chapter 110
She didn’t want the daylight to break. She didn’t want to say yes to her parents. Because she didn’t want to marry Cedric.
Even if it might only be for a short period, she couldn’t. The thought of marrying him was the cause of all her fears. And now that Greg was with her, she didn’t have to fear anymore. She might sound as a coward but that was all she wanted at this moment. She only wanted to be with Greg.
Her eyes watered again and she buried her face on his chest. Right now, she didn’t care about anything. As long as he left with her, she would do anything to make sure she never left his side. If only that would protect her from her parents. And also, Cedric.
It was heartbreaking to let them down again. But she hoped they would realize who Cedric really was, as soon as possible. They would come to know of his true colors no matter how long it took. And they would be grateful that she ran away.
As they neared the large gates, she lifted her head from his chest and took a look at their surrounding. Everything was dark. It was so dark. Even the bright lamp posts, did nothing to hide how deep into the night they were.
All was quiet. No footseps or sights of any servants. Great thing the private guards didn’t frequent here anymore. They only came when there were signs of threats at the basement.
No other people apart from them were in sight. Not even the security men. And— How did he even get through the gates?
She stopped in her thoughts and wondered.
And her answers were confirmed in that instant. Because just beside the gates, one of the securities lay there, looking lifeless.
Her jaw dropped and her breathing hitched. Was he dead? A huge gasp left her lips and she flipped her head to Greg.
“He’ll wake up in a few hours.” Greg’s eyes never left her and he gave her a grin. And relief washed over Lucy. He wasn’t dead. That was a relief.
And how did this happen? She wondered again while she buried her face back on his chest. She couldn’t believe Greg was able to get past the man. Had she underismated his abilities?
“Damnit! I hate to do this.” Greg halted in his steps all of a sudden and let out a curse. And she had to lift her head again to see what he was doing.
Lucy’s eyes widened once more as he brought out a gun from pants pocket and she sighed in relief again, because he only tossed it beside the security.
“That’s a nice gun there,” he said in regret, as if speaking to himself. “Don’t you think its better to get one of my own? I can’t take what belong to others, right?”
He asked her in a soft voice as he stepped out of the opened gate.
Lucy gave him a nod, even though she found it hard to decipher what he meant. Why would he need a gun? It seemed like this one that he dropped belonged to the security guy.
Greg lowered her into his car and walked around to the other side. And her eyes followed him through the window until he came her join her inside the car.
He started the engine immediately and took a reverse. And as they drove out of the neighborhood, every load on her chest. Her anxiousness and every other negative feeling washed away.
She felt light-hearted and content. And for the first time in many days, real happiness bubbled in her chest. She was going to be with him until her parents realized what mistake they had made.
She wouldn’t come here foolishly again. She wouldn’t let anyone trick her into being with Cedric anymore. Not even Cedric himself or her parents. And her brothers question came back to her head. Was she happy with Greg?
How could she not be?
She was happy with him. And from now on, she was going to stick to him like a gum. She might sound selfish, but he was the most selfless man she had ever known. And as long as he was going to indulge her, she would bask in that selflessness to her heart fill.
The car ride was peaceful. Sleep was far from her eyes. And even as Greg spoke to her, about how he got here and some tracker he had inserted inside the device, she wasn’t surprised by everything he said. In fact, she was grateful. He could turn the whole world upside down, she didn’t care.
And she wouldn’t fear anymore about how mischievous he could get. He wasn’t afraid and that was all. She wouldn’t worry about it. Because if it wasn’t for his fearlessness, she would never have a taste of this freedom. Not once or twice at that.
He had saved her for the second time. And she would forever remain grateful. He would glance at her now and then as they drove through the city. He still had that smile on his face but those emotions were still present. They were prominent in his eyes. He even said somethings to cheer her up. He was worried for her.
And Lucy couldn’t help but give him a smile. This time, it wasn’t forced. It was a genuine smile. Because she wanted to assure him. That she was okay. And she was going to be fine. As long as he kept her in his custody.
Greg released a sigh after glancing away from her for the umpteenth time. Every few seconds, he would look at her for any sign of gloom or sadness.
But those tears were long gone. And she was even smiling. He could see it in her features. She was happy. Happy that he was here. And happy that he had saved her.
Why then was he anticipating that gloom to return?
