Chapter 29: Who They’re Dealing With

“I said silence.” His father sighed and opened his eyes. “If you can’t keep a clear head, excuse us.”

“But you have to do something.”

“Leave,” his father muttered lazily.

The middle-aged woman glared at him and stomped away while grumbling and muttering words under her breath.

“You have failed me, son.” The man closed his eyes again and heaved a deep breath.

Cedric lowered his head and sat on another couch, facing his father. “I know… Now, everything is ruined,” he said in regret. “If only I had known—”

“Nothing is ruined,” his father interrupted him. “Don’t give up too early.” He gave him a small smile and sighed.

“I know you can make everything right.” The man added. “You always find a way.”

Cedric looked into his father’s calm eyes. The man had trust in him more than even he could fathom. He had never let him down, and he wouldn’t allow this to be a total failure. He stared down at the ring in his finger and clenched that hand. He just needed to calm the storm in his heart.

His father rised to his feet and walked forward. “You did a great job with that collaboration. Don’t lose it,” he said, then made way to the stairs.

Cedric’s expression darkened after his father left. The business collaboration with the foreign company. That was another problem to worry about. Now he had to do his best to stabilize it. After what happened last night, the investors would all be willing to back away. Those guys sure play their tricks well.

A maid walked inside the room and his eyes narrowed. “Bring me my car keys.”

“Yes, Young Master.” She nodded with curled lips and sauntered upstairs.

Cedric’s gaze followed her back then he shut his eyes. He needed something stronger to clear the mess in his head.

She soon returned and handed him the keys.

“Young Master, what bothers you tonight? You must be exhausted from the long flight, a nice massage will solve everything,” The maid trailed a finger on his arm and said.

Without saying anything, Cedric shoved away her hands and stood up. “Make sure my room is spotlessly cleaned by tomorrow,” he said. “You might get a good reward.”

Her eyes lit up and she nodded eagerly with a giggle.

Cedric gave a dark chuckle and left the house. Luckily, the night was still young.

In Country Z, City X.

Inside a very tall skyscraper. On the highest floor.

A middle-aged man paced inside his office with clenched fists and a dark expression. His eyes would dart now and then to the door. After a few minutes, the door opened and two young men entered one after another with wide smiles on their faces.

“What’s up, Dad.”

Greg slouched down on one of the couches with his eyes fixed on the furious man. And his brother sat beside him, also staring at their father in amusement.

“You boys are going around causing trouble in town.” The man pointed a finger at them and roared, “You think this is a joke. Don’t you know the kind of people you’re with?”

“Relax, Dad.”

“Which one are you speaking of?”

The twins chuckled.

“You…” The man’s hand shook and he was left speechless.

“You’re asking me which trouble? You set rumors in town last night and it’s all over the news. Still you’re asking me which trouble!” The man slumped on his chair and patted his chest. “I shouldn’t have indulge you boys from the beginning… I have been turning a blind eye to all your childish pranks, now see what you’ve done.”

“Come on, Dad.” Greg waved his hand. “This is a minor issue, why are you fretting this much?”

“Besides, the poor girl needed help,” George added.

The man shook his head and gave them a helpless look. “And it was your duty to set another record in town and destroy her engagement,” he said with a glare. “Seems like you boys have plenty of time in your hands.”

The twins sighed, getting tired with the conversation already. They were sure that wasn’t the only reason he had summoned them.

“I should have agreed with your mother when she wanted you to settle down,” he murmured while pinching the space between his brows and the twins eyes widened.

“You know you can’t do that, Dad.”

“Yes, who forces others to marry nowadays. Hehehe, unless you want to tie us down.”

“Which you know is impossible.”

They both said with chuckles and their father gaze them another helpless look.

“That was your mother’s idea.” He paused, then glanced between them and chuckled. “I have a better way to deal with you boys?”

The twin’s faces fell, seeing their father’s mischievous look. And they shifted on the couch.

“Now, who among you caused the chaos?” He asked.

They pointed at each other and the man shook his head already anticipating that.

“Now, that doesn’t matter.” He sat properly on the chair with his eyes still fixed on them. “That is not the reason I called you here,” he paused for a few seconds, then continued. “I am stepping down as the chairman of this company.”

“What!?’

“What!?”

The twins jerked up from the couch.

“Since I’ve let you both handle CEO’s position and you have a lot of time in your hands, It is high time we get serious.”

“But, Dad—”

“But, Dad—”

They both whined and he held up his hand. “From now on, both of you will handle the CEO’s position, as well as the chairman’s position. You decide how to share the workload among yourselves.”

“How can we handle such hectic tasks.”

“This is obviously slavery.”

“You haven’t seen anything, Young men.” The man gave a soft chuckle. “But don’t worry, you both shall get assistants this time,” he said again and their eyes widened once more.

“And the assistants will be chosen by your mother,” he concluded.

The twins exchanged looks, their eyes filled with horror.
