Chapter 38: A New Look II

But Lucy knew who she was speaking about. It was of course, her brother. And now, she found herself missing home so much. Would her brothers try to find her? She hoped they didn’t. Her father would flip if they did. Well, her brothers could stand up to him. But that would only mean more disaster. And she had already caused enough chaos already.

The makeup was soon done, and now, she couldn’t even recognize herself. Lucy could only stared at the mirror, speechless.

“You’re simply amazing.” She couldn’t help but compliment the artist, totally forgetting her sorrow.

“You have a great skin, everything was a breeze.” The lady shrugged and stared at her handiwork proudly. “Jai really has a gem for just a friend.”

Lucy thanked her for the compliment and breathed in deeply.

When she walked out of the salon, Jai was leaning against his car and looking around the place.

He gave her a fleeting glance and was about to look away. But he paused, then turned back his head. And his pupils expanded.

Lucy skipped forward and stopped in front of him. “So, do I look different?” She giggled.

Jai shook his head, unable to form a word. “You look dangerous,” he breathed out.

“Huh?” Lucy frowned. “But I think I look different—”

“No, what I mean is that, you look dangerous, but in a nice way.” Jai shook his head at her and chuckled. “And you definitely look different. Who gave you the idea of this look?”

“The artist chose it form me,” Lucy replied and entered the car. She never thought dangerous and nice could stand in the same sentence. That was typical Jai. And she couldn’t help but think back to the stylists confusing words.

Jai started the car and took out his phone. “Let’s see if I can find you the earliest flight… What city?” He looked up and asked.

“City X.” Lucy answered.

Now that everything was falling into place, her heart gave a strange twist she couldn’t understand. Would she really be able to stay away from her family? And even moved to another city? But she didn’t have any choice at the moment.

And her friend. How she wished she could be able to say goodbye. Since that night, she hadn’t spoke with Gina. How would she react if she found out that she wasn’t at home. Should she asked Jai to help her make a call? But what if Gina tried to talk her out of this traveling?

No, she wouldn’t call her yet until she reached city. Lucy sighed as guilt slowly gripped her heart. Gina must be worried about her.

“City X?”

Jai’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts and she looked up to find him staring at her with a frown. “Where are you going in City X?”

Lucy was about to answer when his attention turned to the front and he instantly stopped the car. She followed his gaze and gasped at the sight of the figure that suddenly appeared in front of the car.

The girl was waving in front of the car with a huge smile. She was none other than Thea, her frenemy at school. Or more like adversary.

“We’ve got company,” Jai muttered, seemingly not pleased. And he let out a chuckle, and said to Lucy. “Don’t worry, she won’t recognize you. No one will.”

“Oh.” Lucy nodded. But she still wanted to hide. The last person she would appreciate seeing in these days what Thea. Thinking back to how the girls had mocked her at the bar. She could only imagine the kind of party they would throw if they heard of what happened to her.

The back door opened and Thea got inside.

“Hey, Jai. What’s up. What brings you to this district today?” Thea asked in her tiny high-pitched voice. Lucy tried so hard not to cover her ears.

“Just looking around.” Jai shrugged as he started the car again. “You? You don’t live here.”

“Right. I heard there’s a job offer in one of the companies nearby.” She giggled. “You know I’ve been trying so hard to get a job since we graduated.”

Lucy bit her lips to stifle her gasp. The whole Thea searching for a job. Talk about someone that was bragging since first year that her father was a director of a company.

“Well, good luck then,” Jai murmured.

“Urgh, I’ll really need every luck I can get.” Thea groaned. “You know Andrew and I broke up.”

“Really?” Jai raised a brow and Lucy’s eyes widened.

“Yeah. Just a few days ago,” Thea muttered. But her tone didn’t sound gloomy. “Heard that his father’s company went bankrupt. You know, the usual competition in the business world.” She shrugged. “You can’t believe he even tried to propose. Luckily, I got wind of the fact from a relative. Now he’s on the high-road.”

“That’s cruel,” Jai muttered with a shake of his head.

“I know, right.” Thea scoffed.

Lucy shook her head while pitying the guy. Wow, she never saw that company. Andrew and Thea were like inseparable.

“No, I mean you were cruel. This is the time he needs you most.”

“Dude.” Thea rolled her eyes. “That’s not how I roll. You poor, you say byebye. I’m too young to support a broken guy.”

“If you say so.” Jai chuckled.

“You know what, Jai.” Thea lowered her voice. “If you weren’t so mysterious, I would have dated you back in college. You’re so loaded you know, I wouldn’t even care to find a job.”

“Well, about that.” Jai chuckled. “I’m a loyal friend, you know.”

“Yeah, whatever.” Thea scoffed. “Even your little sister here should agree, you need a life for God’s sake.”

She finally acknowledge Lucy’s presence. And sister? How did she look like Jai’s sister? Come on, was she color blinded? ‘The hair, Thea. Take a look at the hair’

“Aren’t I right, Little Sis?” Thea leaned forward to ask Lucy who nodded quickly.

“Do you think your brother and I should hook up?” She asked again.
