Chapter 44: Maybe

Lucy did not mind his twisted words. Since he had mentioned the airport, he would take her there, surely. Now, things were beginning to fall back into place. She couldn’t be more happy.

When they came out of the office, the hallway was empty. There was no sight of the securities or that woman.

Greg increased his pace and she had to jog along to keep up with his large strides. Then, the stopped in front of an elevator at the end of the hallway.

He punched in the keys, while his grip tightened on her and they got inside immediately the door opened.

Lucy found out it was his own private elevator as it took them down directly to the parking lot.

Among the wide range of cars at the underground parking lot, when he took out his car keys and pressed on it, one car lit up ahead of them.

Lucy couldn’t help but glance up at him now and then a he kept on pulling her toward the car. He held the door open for her and after she sat on the passenger’s seat, he walked around the car and came to sit on the driver’s seat.

“What about your assistant?” She asked as he drove them out of the parking lot. The woman looked all scary and bossy, she wondered if he would get into trouble. And why would he find an assistant like that?

Greg looked at her from the corner of his eyes and shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know… Maybe she’ll come running after us, who knows?”

“Oh.” Lucy nodded and shivered inside. She didn’t want to meet that woman again. “Are you afraid of her?” She asked.

Greg looked at her as if she had grown horns. “Do I look like I’ll be afraid of anybody?” He let out a laugh. “Of course not. But a little.”

Lucy shook her head and rested back on the chair. He said he wasn’t afraid of anybody, that she knew. But he also said a little, did it mean he was afraid of her? Why did she even care.

“Why did you employ her then?” She found herself asking.

Greg looked at her and his lips lifted at the side. Af if he was amused that she was suddenly interested in his assistant. Well, Lucy was. Because she didn’t see in any way how she was related to that scary woman. Because, he had said that it was because of her that he got one.

Greg shook his head with another chuckle and ignored her question.

“Why do you want to leave the city?” He asked after a while.

Lucy pursed her lips and sighed. “Isn’t it obvious?” She snickered.

If not for the fact that she needed his help at this moment, she wasn’t she if she wouldn’t be strangling him by now. He was all the cause of her misery. Too bad it would be useless to lash out at him.

“Ah, I even thought you came here to see me so we could elope.” Greg shook his head and chuckle. “Tell me, Princess.” He glanced at her again. “Do you think hiding will solve anything? How long are you even going to stay there?”

“I don’t know.” Lucy folded her hands and sighed. “Maybe forever. I don’t want to remain here anymore. Besides, I’m not planning to return.”

“Really?”

She could hear him chuckle again and she closed her eyes and nodded.

“And how do you think you’re going to survive their either?” He asked with another shake of his head.

Lucy snickered and kept her eyes closed. Her cousin was there, she didn’t have anything to worry about.

“Do you even have the money to book a flight?”

Now, that made her opened her eyes and she frowned. Did Jai book the flight successfully before Thea interrupted them in the car? He must have. She could also remember him asking her what city she was going. But then, without Jai, how was she going to get her ticket?

Her head flipped to Greg and she looked at him in horror.

“Just as I expected,” said with an amused smile, while studying her expression. “I won’t even be surprised if you end up in a warehouse, all gagged and blindfolded.”

“Well, I got help before I got lost.” Lucy pursed her lips. And maybe she would have even been on her way now to city X. ‘Urgh!’ how could she have been such a fool and left the car?

Now, not until had she put herself in trouble with the securities, she had also bumped into someone she would never want to see again. Ever.

“You got help?” Greg frowned at her.

Lucy nodded and he sighed. “You’re such a dump girl.” He clicked his tongue and shook his head in pity. “What makes you think you can leave this place?”

“Huh?” Lucy turned to him and frowned. “W–Why not?” She stammered. Of course she could. Isn’t that what she was doing at the moment?

“You don’t have to know.” Greg said in a so mysterious way she didn’t like the sound of his tone.

On their own volition, her palms tightened on the pulse and those familiar feelings slowly built up in her stomach. “G–Greg, don’t try anything crazy. I– I have to leave this city.”

Greg gave her a nonchalant look and murmured something under his breath.

Lucy’s eyes widened at that and the feeling of apprehension increased in her stomach.

“Greg?”

He didn’t answer.

And hesitantly, she looked out of the window and her heart stopped for a few seconds. They weren’t going to the airport. And the car was taking a very familiar route. A road she could remember even in her dreams.

“N–No no, you can’t take me back there,” she turned to him and said frantically. “You promised to take me to the airport!”

“Did I?” A smile appeared on his face. “I only said, maybe.”
