The Mischievous CEO Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 46: He’s Going To Regret It
Chapter 46
Lucy bit her lips and she lowered her head again. She seemed to be contemplating once more.
Greg knew it was selfish of him. But he couldn’t help but hope in his mind. ‘Damn.’ He should be running at the moment, speeding at his fastest speed to drop her off at the airport. But he did the opposite, by stopping the car, and pulling over at the side of the road, patiently waiting for her response.
She didn’t seem to mind that the car had stopped this time, as she was buried deep in her thoughts. And his heart pounded in anticipation, his grip tightened on the steering wheel, while waiting for the next words that would come out of her mouth. As if those were the words that would decide his fate from now on. The fate he was now playing with.
“Greg,” Lucy looked up and said in a shake voice. “Th–That was a very nice offer. However…” She paused for a few breaths and he also found himself holding his breath. “I– I’m scared. My parents, was well as everyone thinks you’re a danger zone… I don’t know…” She trailed off, and dropped her head once more.
‘Don’t make things hard for her, let the poor girl go,’ Greg’s mind told him, but his heart was saying something else. Well, he had heard that a lot. Almost all the city thought he was dangerous. No, they knew he was dangerous. He never would refute that. Because he didn’t give a damn of what anyone else thought of him. Anyone else, except her. And he hated to admit that. Hopefully, this wouldn’t lead to something his senses were warning him of. Having fun was his only notion, and he would stand by that.
“Well, do you also thing I’m dangerous?” He asked seriously and she nodded.
Greg couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped his lips. The chuckle that left an unsettling feeling in him. And now that he was set on his game, he wasn’t willing to back down. Not now that he’d come this far.
“Lucy.” He addressed her seriously again. She looked up to meet his gaze. And he could see doubt. Doubt and uncertainty in her eyes. Well, that was a good start.
“Didn’t they already think we’re together?” He asked in a relaxed tone. “Why not give them what they want?”
Lucy stared at him in shock and her lips parted once more. However, she wasn’t able to say out any word.
And Greg continued. “I don’t even need to ask to know that you don’t want to get married any time soon. If they eventually let things go, are you sure their next action wouldn’t be to set you up once more? What if that person is even worse…” He tried to sound calm as he tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. But calm was now far from his mind. As his blood boiled with an indescribable rage at the thought of that. The thought of her being with another basterd who would only try to use her.
But wasn’t that what he was also trying to do at the moment? ‘Of course not.’ He reassured himself.
Unlike that idiot, he was going to make sure she was happy. He wouldn’t try to cage her with lies and deceit. The only thing that captivated him was her beauty and innocence. And he wasn’t going to use them for selfish aims. The mere thought of seeing her miserable, made something click inside him in an uncomfortable way. He didn’t want to admit that, but it was the truth.
So he waited patiently. Trying to look undisturbed as silence hung in the car. That silence felt like eternity. But he was going to give her all the time she needed to come up with her answer. And if she didn’t agree, he wouldn’t press on further. He would also fortunately be freed from the grave he was trying to dig for himself.
“Greg.” She finally called out in her soft voice, his head whipped to her he almost urged her to go on. No, he didn’t like this effect she was having on him. He had to do something about it.
“I– I don’t know. I– I know this is crazy.” Lucy went on, as her hands fiddled with her pouch. That pouch he had seen her gripping so tightly on during that god-damned engagement. Then one of her fingers caught his eyes. The ring. That ring was still there. And his hands uncontrollably gripped the wheel.
“But… I’m willing to give it a try.” She finally added and Greg let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. This was it.
“Are you sure?” He pressed on, unable to help the smile that curled his lips up.
“I– I’m very sure.” Lucy slowly nodded, and he could see her eyes brightening up with a newfound enthusiasm.
“Then, believe me, Princess… You’re not going to regret this.”
But he was going to regret it. Greg knew it deep in his mind. Because even now, he found himself leaning forward. His heart pounded and he was no longer in control of himself. His hand reached out involuntarily.
And she just sat there. Staring at him with knitted brows. As if confused of what he was about to do next. As if she wasn’t even aware of the kind of things she was inciting inside him at moment.
Then his fingers dug into her hair and he kissed her. It wasn’t long nor deep. However, when he drew back and stared into her widened eyes, those lingering effects were still there and tingling with every of his nerves.
“Lucy…” He didn’t know when her name left his lips, the remaining words stopping in his throat. But she continued to stare into his eyes in wonder then she blinked innocently. When he leaned forward again, she didn’t show any sign of hesitation. And this time, it was more longer than the previous one. Longer than he had even planned. He had to pull himself together to be able to withdraw.
