Chapter 47: Don’t Say His Name

He stared into her eyes once more and she was still giving him that look. Her hand even wandered to her lips and she blinked again, seemingly speechless.

Greg let out a curse and lowered the car’s window to take in long drags of the air. After that, he started the car, while his grip tightened again on the steering wheel.

Then she giggled. And her soft giggle bubbled through the air and once again, doing strange things to him.

“What is it?” He asked in a strained voice.

He glanced sideways to find her staring at him with sparkling eyes, with a hand covering her mouth, obviously trying to stifle her laughter.

“Your lips.” Lucy giggled. “You have—”

Before she could finish speaking, Greg quickly looked in the review mirror and found his lips all smudged red with that weird thing on her lips moments ago.

He gave her a helpless look and took out an hankie to wipe his lips. This girl would surely be the death of him.

“Lucy.” He called out after sometime. She turned her attention to him. Her expression was now relaxed and she even had a small smile on her lips. “Didn’t you feel anything?” He asked with a frown. He had espected her to yell in fright or even faint just like last time. But all didn’t happen. Instead, she seemed nonchalant. As if it was simply unimportant. Well, Greg wouldn’t also deem it as important if it was with other girls, but now—

“Was I supposed to feel anything?” She asked him in confusion, yanking him off his thoughts.

Greg couldn’t conjure anything to say. She had left him speechless again. And he couldn’t help but take another glance at her.

“You don’t feel anything?” He asked.

“Nope.” Lucy shrugged and muttered simply. “I can only feel you pulling at my lips. That was gross you know.” She folded her hands and gave him a scornful look.

Greg couldn’t stop looking at her in wonder. Just how innocent could she get? He searched her eyes for any sign of pretense, but she didn’t seem to be doing so. She was— he couldn’t find the words again.

“Lucy,” He finally said, while keeping his tone as hard as he could. “You can’t let other men do this with you, understand.”

“Oh.” Lucy blinked and she slowly nodded. “It’s so gross, why would I want that?” She mumbled under her breath.

“Good.” Greg nodded, satisfied. However, she wasn’t done speaking yet.

“Even when Brother Cedric tried to—”

“Wait, who?” Greg’s head flipped to her and his jaws clenched.

“Brother Cedric.” Lucy continued, and she pouted her lips. “It felt so weird and gross.”

Greg’s hands tightened once more on the steering wheel and he tried not to look at her. That basterd. Luckily, he didn’t try that on the engagement night, otherwise Greg wasn’t sure if he would have been able to control himself from ruining his face.

“Lucy.” He called out her name after calming down himself. “I don’t want you to say that name when we’re together—”

“Brother Cedric?” She asked in confusion and Greg tried so hard not to snap.

“Yes.” He gritted out.

Lucy pursed her lips and turned back to fiddle with her pouch. “I thought he was your friend.”

“Who told you that?”

“Gina told me,” Lucy answered him simply.

And Greg wondered how her crazy friend knew. And now, he also had another problem to take care of. Who knew if she might threaten him with a gun next time?

“I don’t know him,” Greg said. From the moment he found out who the guy was laying out his lies and deceit to, he didn’t want to have anything to do with him anymore. Greg didn’t cut relationships that easily. But he had crossed the line. A line that even he hadn’t known existed. Until now.

His eyes turned back to her again and his heart softened.

“You still can’t call his name in my presence,” he muttered in a low tone. And she nodded obediently.

One hand lifted from the steering wheel and he found himself stroking her hair.

“From now on, you’ll only call me name.”

“Everytime?” She asked.

Even though Greg didn’t know the meaning behind that question, he gave her a node and even found himself laughing softly, like a fool he was.

“Yes, everytime.”

He returned his attention to the road as they drove past the companies.

“Greg.” She called out after sometime and he answered “Yes?”

However, she didn’t say anything for a while, then call out his name again.

“Greg.”

“Yes?”

“Greg.”

“Yes?”

“Greg.”

“……”

“Greg.”

“Lucy?” He turned to her and heaved an exasperated sigh. “Just don’t say his name anymore, okay? You can call any other name you want.”

“Okay.” She nodded with a smile, as if expecting him to say that. Greg had a doubt that she had done that intentionally.

“Besides, I don’t also like him,” she muttered simply, confirming his thoughts. “And I won’t like to remember anything from the past few days.”

“Good.” Greg chuckled.

When they arrived at the silent neighborhood, Lucy’s heart pounded in anticipation. She was releived when he didn’t take her back to the company. She didn’t want to see those securities or scary lady again. However, now that they were near his house, memories of last time she was here flooded her senses.

She never thought she would come back here, ever. But now, here she was. Her mind was torn into two. One one hand, it wanted her to consider his options and take this opportunity of once in a lifetime. On the other hand, her instincts were warning her of the impending doom.

This was against everything her family had ever wanted for her. But Greg was right. Since they now all thought that she was with him. Wouldn’t it be better to exercise it to her own advantage? Besides, his offers were tempting, they were everything she ever wanted.
