Chapter 69: How Did You Get Here

The place where all sorts of uneventful things happened in the bar. He promised himself she wasn’t there. He hoped and prayed he wouldn’t find her there, despite the fact that he wished more than anything at this moment to find her.

If he found her here, he would only be met with one thing. An ungodly sight he would never hope for, even in his nightmare.

All the goons who jail had become a second home for them frequented this area of the bar. The ladies that accompanied them were not less in crime.

And his hear thumped, he found a hard time to breath as he walked past those figures, his eyes scanning every girl in his sight. And he’d let out a sigh of relief when he found out it wasn’t her. How ironic.

But he continued making his way anyways. And as he walked deeper into the alley that stretched after the back door, his heart would ease when none of the females turned out to be her.

He kept on going, his footseps never stopping. He didn’t halt or take his eyes off those ladies. Even as a bright light slowly came into view from ahead and he found himself in a place that looked like the parking lot.

It was the parking lot.

Greg cursed under his breath and clenched his fists. Had he come to a dead end?

His eyes went to where he had parked his car and he blew out a heavy breath. The parking lot was eerily quiet. No one was there. She wasn’t their either.

He felt like shouting into the air, just then, a blinding light flashed towards him from a distance and the sound of a car reached his ears.

He squinted and shielded his eyes from the light, a frown marring his face. Without a second thought, he strode toward the car. He didn’t waste time to ponder on the sudden beating of his heart.

This wasn’t time for celebrating. He had seen her. Through the blinding light of the starting car, she was on the front seat and was staring straight at him. And something snapped inside him at the sight of her face. She looked scared and shaken.

The car didn’t get to move an inch. Greg reached the driver’s side, flung the door open and dragged out whoever the idiot that had the guts to take her. And when the guy’s face came into view, the volcano in his heart erupted.

“Greg.” Lucy wanted to squeal in joy at the sight of him. She wasn’t sure if she was seeing things. She just saw him among those many cars.

However, her happiness was short-lived and she didn’t have time to bask in the newfound hope in her heart. And the fear returned tensfold because everything happened in a flash.

When Greg got to the car and pulled Jai out, sending staggering back with a punch, Lucy couldn’t react.

Why did she have to witness another fight scene? She’d already had enough of shock. How could this night get any worse?

She battled the fright in her heart and dashed out of the car on wobbly legs. She was just in time to prevent another fist flying Jai’s direction and fortunately for her, Greg was clearheaded enough to pause his hand mid-air. Otherwise, there was no doubt she would be writhing in pain now had she taken the blow.

That did nothing to stop her trembling though, it even heightened her fears. And she clung tight to Greg, wrapping her arms tightly against him. If not to stop the fight, then to quell the tremors in her nerves.

“What the hell—”Jai steadied himself, using his car as support. He hadn’t seen that coming. He hadn’t seen that coming. He lifted his head to be met with Greg’s hard glare and be held up both hands. Another failed attempt.

He laughed softly, half mocking himself and half laughing at such a coincidence. His gaze landed on the princess, she was clinging tightly to him, she looked more then scared.

And queitly without another word, he glanced back at the guy hugging her. He should have known this would happen. And he quietly left in his car, still laughing to himself.

Lucy’s ears caught the fading sound of Jai’s car from a distance. She still couldn’t pull herself away from Greg.

She could feel the anger radiating from him. He looked so ready to tear Jai apart. And his body was rigid with rage.

She wanted to be mad at him. He shouldn’t have attacked Jai. Jai had only saved her. He had saved her from—

Lucy could not even think of the remaining words. The memory was too horrible. She didn’t want to remember it. And now that she found herself in Greg’s embrace, she was supposed to calm down, but she couldn’t.

She lifted her head to meet his eyes, her lips trembling.

Greg’s eyes were not on her. His cold dark eyes were fixed on the disappearing car instead. He looked really pissed off.

His gaze remained there for a long time, there was also a frown on his face.

Lucy was also surprised. The fight had ended in such a short time. Jai didn’t even retaliate. She had heard him laughing before he left in his car. He was determined to leave with her a while ago. Why didn’t he even put up a fight the moment he saw Greg?

“Who is he?” Greg’s hard voice rang her back to her senses.

Lucy returned her eyes to him and tried to get a word out of her mouth.

“Shit!” Greg cursed out loud and scooped her into his arms. “You’re shaking, Lucy. How the hell did you get here?”

Lucy yelped from his sudden movement and she quickly put her hands around his neck. She was still shaking. That wasn’t a lie. It was frightening that she couldn’t control it.
