Chapter 70: His Vibe

“Whoever that guy is, I don’t like the vibe he’s giving.” Greg continued in an agitated voice. “Damnit, I have so many questions for you right now. You’ve got me worried in there. How did you even leave the bar? I should have known someone had taken you away. Did you know him?”

Lucy could only nod as he bombarded her with so many questions. She could also notice his voice shaking. Was he as scared?

Her arms tightened around him and she buried her face in his chest.

“You will tell me what happened when we get home.”

His voice softened and she could hear him sigh.

“Everything, Lucy.” Greg enunciated his words. “That idiot that tried to kidnap you right now. I have a feeling you know each other.”

“He’s not kidnapping me,” Lucy said in a timid voice. “H-He was only helping him.”

She looked up from his chest and stared at his expression, but Greg didn’t seem to believe her. In fact, his expression got darker.

Lucy bit her lips and buried her head back into his chest. She wouldn’t explain further. In fact, she didn’t want to. Right now, her feelings were in a mess. Cedric was inside that bar. She needed to get out of here as soon as possible.

And whatever was waiting for her tomorrow—

Her heart quivered and she halted her thoughts at that. She didn’t want to think about tomorrow. She didn’t want to think about whatever was in store for her. There was a chance that her parents might forgive her. But would that come at a price?

“Lucy.” Greg called out to her as he lowered her into the car. She met his eyes to find him giving her a worried look and he pulled the seatbelt around her. “You’re shaking. I want you to remain calm. You’ll tell me everything when we get home, right?”

Lucy pressed her lips together and avoided his eyes, focusing instead on her heartbeat. Thankfully, the effects of alcohol had completely cleared out and she could now think rational.

“You’re going to tell me, Princess.” Greg stroked her hair and said in a doting tone. He closed the door and walked around the car.

Lucy watched him through the window and fumbled with her fingers. Did he sense something? How was she going to tell him everything? Especially about Cedric?

The last look he had given her was a questioning one. The same look that had been on his face throughout the day.

She was finding it hard to break the news to him. About her parents and about Cedric’s return. And now that she’d encountered Cedric, those uncertainties magnified in her heart.

How would Greg take the news?

He would in doubt try to barge inside that bar and ruffle Cedric up after hearing what happened. But what of the news about her parents? Could she still break it to him?

Her hands remained wrapped around her body to keep it calm and she let her eyelids close as he drove them out of the parking lot. It was a long ride back to his home. None of them said a word. She could only hear his even breathing.

When they arrived at his house, the sky was so dark above, despite the bright lamp posts. It was clear that they were well into the night.

Lucy opened her eyes and glanced sideways at Greg, after stopping the car, he came around to carry her again.

Lucy wanted to protest. She could walk. And she didn’t want him to continue giving her that look. The questioning look in his eyes scared her. How could she tell him everything when there was a risk of him abandoning her again?

He might be glad that her parents were willing to reconsider and he might not contemplate before getting rid of her. After all, wasn’t she just like a burden to him now?

Greg dropped her at the front door and told her the password, while he went back to the car to get the clothes.

She took a long time to type in the password. Did she even hear him telling her to open the door? She was spacing out again. The same expression on her face that afternoon.

He’d tried to cheer her up, despite knowing she was hiding something. Even took her to that damned bar.

Yet, those looks returned to her eyes. And he couldn’t wait any longer. He was getting impatient. He had to know what was bordering her and find a solution to it.

She was his responsibility now. He’d be damned if he let anything happen to her. He might as well strangle himself to death. And even as he thought back to that guy, he still couldn’t chase away those feelings.

She had admitted she knew him. He either took her out willingly or she saw and recognized him, then decided to follow him out. What ever it was, her fearful expression didn’t escape him. Something must have happened between them.

Something that had frightened her. And he had a feeling. That fright didn’t only have something to do with whoever that guy was. There was something else. There was no doubt he was trying to take her away. He could feel it in his bones.

Yet, he must be getting her away from something. And probably to something else.

Shit! He cursed for the umpteenth time and pulled out the bags filled to the brim with her clothes. The sales lady had needed not long descriptions. As if she was already expecting him. She didn’t investigate whether he was telling the truth. She had given him her things and happily sold him the clothes. At considerable prices even. They were too cheap he couldn’t help but give her double the amount.

He left his parking lot and came to the door to find Lucy gone. She had typed in the password and left the door opened for him. That meant she had heard him speak.

He glance over his shoulder at his brother’s house. He should be back at this moment. Was he with the celebrity again?
