Chapter 71: Didn’t Look Good

A soft laugh left Greg’s lips. He couldn’t believe he was having the idea of asking the celebrity for help in order to make her speak.

They were best friends. She would surely tell her whatever was bordering her.

Well— he wouldn’t do that. For one thing, he wouldn’t like the celebrity near them anytime soon. All she did was warm him to backoff her friend. She might use any chance she got to take Lucy away from him.

He would just make her speak up herself. Hopefully, he wouldn’t need to ask for long before getting her to talk.

He headed straight to the guest room after pushing the door shut with his legs and locking it. He was met with an empty room.

The sound of rushing water came from the bathroom and he waited patiently. It was almost midnight when he glanced at his wristwatch. She might want to go straight to the bed after emerging from the bathroom but he needed to make her talk tonight.

And his mind was instantly torn into two. She might come out of the bath at any moment. She was obviously bathing. What if he scared her instead? She wouldn’t expect to come out and find him inside her room.

So he did the safest thing for them both at the moment. He rose to his feet and left the room. She might not be the only one affected. Greg wasn’t confident he wouldn’t lose himself if she suddenly walked out in something barely conceiling her.

That would disrupt his every plan of tonight. The thought of making her speak will even flee his mind without a doubt.

He went upstairs to freshen up. And to also calm himself. His thoughts kept going back to the strange guy. And the thought that his anger was returning. He had attacked him almost on instinct. He didn’t look harmful, but he felt harmful.

Greg was well used to those kinds of people. And he hoped it was all in his head. He didn’t want to think Lucy was well acquainted with those kinds of people. He was just overthinking. It was too early to leap to conclusions.

After freshning up, Greg came back downstairs. He didn’t go to her room directly. He went to the kitchen to get something. He hadn’t gotten anything in his stomach. Not that he was much hungry. He had to get her something to eat. She only had alcohol in her body which must have wear off.

She needed something solid to go through the night with. He opened the fridge and took out a packed food. After warming it up, he served and covered it, then settled everything on a tray. He also made a glass of warm milk. She seemed to like taking it before going to bed.

After he was done in the kitchen, he left for her room and was glad that there was no more signs of rushing water.

Instead, she was sitting on the bed, holding one of the dresses. She was fully clothed in one of his shirts, again. Next time, he would make sure to get her pajamas.

He placed the tray on the bedside table, her fascinated eyes were fixed on the dress in her hands, he wondered if she even noticed him come in.

That feeling of uncertainty was no longer in her eyes. She seemed entranced by the dress.

“Y-You got this back?” She said in a shock whisper.

Oh, she did notice his presence. Greg let out a laugh. He sank down on the bed, facing her and shook his head.

“I thought you might still need it,” he replied with a shrug. He still couldn’t believe what she’d pawn such an expensive dress. The saleslady didn’t deem it fair. It was the first thing she handed him after knowing they were together.

“I didn’t know,” Lucy murmured as she admired her engagement clothes. “I just feel it unfair to let Sis Maya’s design go. Just like that.”

She sighed as she traced a finger across the shining stones.

Greg fixed his eyes on that finger and his hands balled involuntarily. She was still wearing the ring.

He grabbed that hand, surprising himself and the next thing he did. He yanked the ring off.

Lucy let out a tiny scream and stared at him in disbelief. “G-Greg, W-What is…”

Greg cursed again and tossed the ring on the bedside table. Shit! He had screwed up. Again.

Looking at her scared expression, he cursed again. Why was he loosing control over so many things.

Just the sight of the ring, coupled with the engagement dress had his blood boiling and his thoughts running like that of a maniac.

And now, he’d scared her off. He couldn’t help but congratulate himself inside. He had successfully destroyed his mission of coming here.

She looked happy and he’d changed that.

He only had himself to blame if she wouldn’t want to speak up.

“W-Why did you do that?” Lucy pursed her lips and rubbed that finger. She gave him an offended look and brought the dress up to her chest.

Why he did that? Greg wondered. He shouldn’t be tickef off by the sight of a mere ring. Unfortunately, that wasn’t just any ring. He’d seen it before, and he hadn’t reacted like this. Why then was he acting like a jerk now? Was it because of the sight of the dress?

Hadn’t he been the one that had happily brought it to her? He’d thought it would make her happy. And it did made her happy. But now, he’d destroyed that happiness. She stared at him, asking for answers, demanding with her eyes the explanation he couldn’t give.

He couldn’t tell her why he’d taken the ring off. He would only scare her further. And end up exposing himself. And that would only end in one thing. She’d flee from him and he’d be the biggest loser.

“It didn’t look good on your fingers.”

He made his voice sound as care free as possible.
