Chapter 72: Did You Meet

Lucy made an oh sound and dropped her head after staring at the ring. And she played with the dress.

“I don’t want to wear it anymore.” She shook her head, and there was a hint of fear in her voice. “I– I don’t even know what to do with it.”

“Then I’ll gladly help you do a way with it.” Greg smiled at her. She wasn’t sad about him taking the ring off after all.

“No.” She lifted her head and her eyes widened at his words. “It’s so expensive. You can’t just throw it away.”

Then she did what he least expected. She scampered forward and snatched the ring from the bedside table.

Now, Greg was irritated. But he knew better to keep his anger in check this time. How could she have this much power over his moods?

“I– I have to keep it. It doesn’t belong to me.”

Her words again brought a smile to his lips. And Greg deemed it unfair that he had to go through these all at once. Anger, happiness, and the circle repeating itself.

But he’d clinged to her last words. It did not belong to her.

“You are right.” He agreed and inched closer. “It doesn’t belong to you. Only the dress does, right?”

He raised a brow and she nodded.

‘Good.’ Greg chuckled.

“And you’re going to give it back to its rightful owner without a doubt.” He found himself saying again as he carefully studied her expression.

In fact, he would be over the moon to help her give it back. He couldn’t wait to see that bastard and show him what he’d missed. He’d toss him the ring, adding insult to his wounded pride.

“Now, would you let me do the favor?” He extended his hand and widened his smile.

Lucy bit her lips and avoided his gaze. And that expression returned to her eyes. He had almost forgotten and let go of it.

That look of uncertainty. It looked similar to that look that had ignited his earlier questions. Did that also have something to do with this ring?

Or most accurately, did it have something to do with its owner?

He paused in his train of thoughts as a realization sank in.

“Lucy.” He held her chin and narrowed his eyes. “What happened at the bar. You’ll tell me everything now. Isn’t it?” He asked in a serious tone.

If the ring had something to do with her worries and also what occurred in the bar, then he could only thing of one thing.

Lucy swallowed what seemed to be her saliva and she quickly shook her head.

“N-Nothing happened, I promise. I met Jai and he tried to give me a ride back home.”

She was a bad lier. Greg knitted his brows. Now he was more than convinced. Whatever she was hiding, he had to know it.

That guy. His name was Jai, he guess. He didn’t obviously have the intention of giving her a ride back home.

“Did you meet anyone else before him?” He asked in a hard tone.

Lucy gasped and shook her head again. “N-No, I didn’t meet anyone. Did you see anybody?” She asked instead. The look in her eyes had him thinking if she didn’t want him to say yes.

Well, Greg didn’t see anyone unusual at the bar. Not the person he was thinking in his mind. That was strange. Why then was his thought running in that direction? Was he overthinking, again?

“I’m hungry.” Her soft voice brought him back to the presence.

Greg returned his attention to her and found her eyeing the tray. He gave her a doubtful look and shook his head helplessly. Was she trying to avoid the topic?

He lifted the tray from the bedside table and put it between them. But she only took the glass of milk. And she took a long time seeping it.

While she did that, she also avoided his gaze.

Silent hung in the hair and Greg shook his head again. He leaned back against the bed’s headboard and ate the food. He didn’t feel like eating it though. He was only hungry for answers at this moment. This answers he’d already gotten. Even though she didn’t say it out loud. He’d finally deciphered everything. He only had to put two and two together. The ring was the last piece of the puzzle.

He finished his food before she put down the glass if milk. And he waited until she was done sipping it.

When she dropped the cup back on the plate, Greg took the liberty to wipe away the tiny smudge of the milf from her lips.

She was once again behaving like a baby and he hated the feeling that stirred in him. Now that he’d know his answers, maybe he should leave her alone. He needed to ask no more. She didn’t seem comfortable to speak about it.

And whatever had made her think of that bastard, as long as she didn’t want to have anything to do with his ring, Greg was reassured.

“Would you like a bedtime story?” He asked and dropped his spoon.

He had used that tactic to make her sleep last time. In fact, he has used a little bit of trick in order to keep her awake for some time so he could have his fill doing what sounded absurd to him. He only lingered and watched her until she was finally able to sleep.

That was the effect of telling her an horror story. Would it still work tonight?

Greg was cut short in his fantasy because she shook her head, turning him down. Well, no one in his sane mind would like to listen to that more than once.

He had to resort to a normal story then. And he was about to propose that when she opened her mouth.

“Greg.” Her voice was shaky and she avoided his eyes. “I– I would like to go somewhere tomorrow,” she stammered.
