Chapter 73: Was She Anxious

Greg frowned at that. “Where did you want to go?”

He had a feeling he was not going to like her answer. He didn’t know why, but his heartbeat heightened at her words.

“I spoke to my big brother a while ago…” Lucy started and trailed off.

Greg urged her to go on, his frown deepening.

And it took a while for her to continue. She bit her lips and gave him a fleeting glance before lowering her head.

“It’s– It’s my parents. Th-they want to see me.” Her words came out almost inaudible. They were barely whispers against his ears.

‘Her parents?’ Greg found himself fisting the bedsheet. Why would her parents want to see her after tossing her out? Were they willing to take her back? That would be a great thing. But why didn’t he feel comfortable with that idea?

“Why do they want that?” He lifted her chin but she avoided his gaze.

“I– I don’t know.” She didn’t waste time to answer. And he could see in her eyes. She was lying again.

And Greg hated that he had no clue what was going on. First it was the ring and the bar, and now her parents?

The bar— he halted and his hand jerked away from her chin as if he had touched a hit flame.

He didn’t know there was more. Her worries. They weren’t only attached to that bastard. But also her parents. And now, her parents wanted to see her.

He turned back to her, dreading whatever he was feeling in his heart.

“Lucy—”

“I really have to go. I need to see my parents.” She cut him off before he could go on. And the determination in her eyes, left him no room for argument.

She wanted to go. She was ecstatic to meet her parents. And also—

He had to keep himself from running into conclusions.

“I don’t see why you can’t go,” he said simply, hoping he sounded unaffected enough. “I guess I’ll have to ditch work tomorrow then.”

“No, you can’t go with me.” Raw fear shone in her large bright eyes. Her pupils expanded once more, as if he had said something similar to destroying the whole world.

She even held his arm and went on to say. “I don’t want you to go with me. I’ll go there alone. It will be bad if we go together.”

Greg let out a laugh of self-reproach. She didn’t have to enunciate each word. It was all in her eyes.

Her parents wanted to see her. What right did he have in stopping her. She would go whether he liked it or not. It was all written in her face. She had the desire to do so.

She didn’t know he knew her reason. That bastard was back. He’d no doubt went to her parents. Greg laughed at himself to think the guy would give up easily. Had she been worried all along about what he would feel? If she wouldn’t let him go. He stared into her eyes and studied her expression carefully. She was ecstatic to meet her parents. And also Him.

He let out another laughed and moved away, getting up from the bed. “You can go wherever you want, Princess. I’ll see to it that a cab picks you up tomorrow.”

And maybe she wouldn’t come back again. Maybe her fears would go, she would be tempted by her parents forgiveness. She’d agree this time and all would come to an end.

Wouldn’t he also be free then— from this danger he was putting his heart in?

He laughed again and left the room. Never glancing back and never wanting to give her a last look.

When Lucy woke up the next day, she was surprised to find Greg gone.

He had left for work early and she was met with an empty dining table, only with her breakfast on it.

She didn’t understand his expression from last night. But she was happy. Happy that he didn’t stop her, and happy that she was able to stop him from following her.

She had thought it would be daunting to tell him. That thought had been bugging her throughout yesterday. And what happened again at the bar. She couldn’t say no to seeing her parents and she also could not take Greg with her.

That would only ruined everything.

As she ate her breakfast slowly, her eyes kept going to the head chair. Although Greg hadn’t declined her from going, he also didn’t look quiet pleased. And it bothered her. What was he thinking?

Didn’t he want her to go? He’d said he would follow her. That was a no to her. As much as she would want someone by her side, she’d rather go alone.

She’d rather see her parents alone.

After she was done with her breakfast, Lucy picked her bag and left the house. Fortunately, Greg had bought her everything. Everything she would need.

She didn’t even know how he got her dress back, that was a great thing. He was so considerate. She couldn’t believe how much happy she felt to find it folded in one of the bags.

From shoes, bag, to all other thing, he might have wiped off the when store.

The only thing Lucy lacked was night clothes. That wasn’t a problem. She’d rather sleep in his comfy shirts at night. Walking in them during the day was the only thing that made her uncomfortable.

When she stepped out and locked the door behind her, as if on cue, a cab pulled over in the area. It must be the cab Greg had arranged for her.

And no doubt, it was the one.

She entered the cab and gave the driver the address to her parents’ mansion, her heart leaping into a dance if anxiousness and excitement.

She was anxious about what she would meet there. And she was excited that if things went her way, then all would be alright.
