Chapter 74: What Have You Done To Your Hair

As the cab drove through the city, she leaned back against the seat and gripped tightly on her bag. There was no need to be afraid. After what Cedric did to her last night, he shouldn’t be able to lift his head when she exposed him.

And her parents. They’d be happy to know that she hadn’t ended up with someone like him. Maybe what happened last night was a blessing in disguise.

It wouldn’t have been a blessing though, if Jai hadn’t saved her.

Thinking of Jai, Lucy wondered if he was alright. Should she call him and ask. But how would he take it? How was she going to explain to him that Greg hadn’t meant to do what he did.

Greg had thought he was trying to kidnap her. He didn’t know they knew each other. Still, she felt she should appologize in Greg’s stead.

Both guys were only looking out for her. Unfortunately, they bumped into each other at the wrong time.

It was a good thing a real fight didn’t break out. Jai was sensible enough to leave the place queitly.

She would call him later and apologize. And this would be the second time she was apologizing. The first time, she had ditched him. And this second time, she was made to ditch him. How ironic.

It took several minutes, almost an hour, for the car to finally arrived in the residential area.

And her heartbeat which had calmed down a while ago went into another frenzy of rapid drumming.

Lucy placed both hands on her chest and closed her eyes. She inhaled and exhaled. That should hopefully calm her down again. She had to be optimistic. Everything was going to be alright.

She relaxed once more and her eyes went to the window to watch the mansion’s lined up in that area. When she saw Gina’s heart, she almost stopped the cab. She could ask Gina to accompany her. That way she wouldn’t be alone.

But there was a little chance of finding Gina at home. It wasn’t morning now. The sun had come out, showering down it’s rays from the sky.

Although it wasn’t midday yet, Gina must be out there somewhere. She must either be at her sister-in-laws fashion house or she was busy shooting some photos.

It didn’t take a while before the cab came to a stop in front of her parents’ place. Lucy stepped out and took in another deep breath. After waiting for some seconds, standing there alone, she moved forward and knocked on the door.

It took her three knocks before the gate was opened from inside.

“Young Miss!” The security man exclaimed after opening the gate. He looked as if he had seen a ghost. Then his eyes brightened and he flung the door wide.

Lucy walked past him and entered the house.

Nothing had changed. Several servants were tending to the flowers and the mansion was as serene as ever.

How was she here in such a short time? Everything felt like a dream. She was back at home again.

A lump formed in her throat and she let out a soft laugh which came out as a sob. Standing here right now and being back at home, she couldn’t believe how much she had missed this place.

How could she even think of living somewhere else?

She’d grown up behind these walls and had memorized every of its corners. She had thought it as a prison in the past.

But now, it was as if the walls were calling to her. Everything felt and smelt familiar. She’d missed it a lot. No doubt. And even the servants.

None of them had sighted her yet. And she laughed before she continued walking. She would have to surprise them later.

The first person she would like to see now was her mum. She was hopefully we’ll now. Lucy couldn’t bear seeing her still grieving.

She hastened her steps, while tightening her hold on the straps of her bag. Her anxiety and even Cedric was long forgotten.

She was back at home, where she belonged. And her parents wanted to see her. Maybe as much as she wanted to see them at this moment.

Would her mother cook her favorite food for her? And her father, he wouldn’t possibly still be mad at her.

With her hope rising and her heart leaping with joy, Lucy pushed the wide doors opened and she started heading for the stairs.

She could hear the servants commotion from outside. They must have noticed her presence. But she wouldn’t wait to embrace them now. She’d do that later.

“Lucy.”

A soft voice stopped her as she made way for the stairs.

Lucy came to a screetching halt and gasped. Due to her excitement, she hadn’t noticed the figures sitting in the living room. Her mind was only on the stairs.

She spun around and examined her surroundings carefully. Her father and her Mum were sitting on the same couch. And on another couch was Cedric. No doubt, she had expected to see him here.

It was her mother that called out her name and she had on a shocked expression. Her father’s expression was unreadable. And she didn’t cars to look in Cedric’s direction.

Lucy hurried back to the living room and her mother sprang to her feet in time to hug her.

“I knew it was you,” her mother said in a soft voice and wrapped her in a warm embrace. Her voice was between sobs and laughter as she squeezed Lucy tight. “Oh my goodness, what have you done to your hair?” She choked out before pulling back to take a proper look at Lucy’s face.

Lucy sniffed, unable to control her tears. Her mum was standing right in front of her, she couldn’t believe it. Right! She had almost forgotten about the blonde hair. No wonder the security guy looked so shock apart from his excitement.

Luckily, she hadn’t put on any makeup. That must have made her recognizable.
