Chapter 75: Forgiving Her

And now with her mother’s scrutinizing, Lucy was afraid she was going to get scolded. However, she was ready to receive a thousand scolds right now,she didn’t care. All she wanted was to hug her mother again.

And she did hug her. Her mother didn’t seem to mind the hairstyle though. They kept on hugging and sobbing, until the clearing of her father’s throat made them pull apart.

“I’m thrilled to see you looking alright, dear.” Her mother cupped her face and sighed. “I was so mad at you. I couldn’t sleep knowing that you were out there, alone. You’re going to be fine now and things will be good again, okay?”

She said in a doting voice as if reassuring her. A tear dropped from Lucy’s eyes and she nodded. Hopefully, things were going to be fine. Whatever reason had had her parents summon her, she had her own reasons now and things would be good.

“Grace, let her sit first,” her father said tiredly and gave his wife a pointed look. He was silently scolding her not to go soft on her.

Lucy bit her lips and lowered her head. Thinking back to his screams and anger last time, he seemed to have cooled down. Even though he wasn’t smiling at her, he didn’t seem to be mad either.

She lowered her head and bit her lips, before sitting beside her mother who have been had moved to another couch away from her father. Her father looked slightly disappointed because of that, but he didn’t voice out his thoughts.

And her mother’s eyes never left her. She even held her hands as they sat together on the couch.

“Lucy, see. Cedric is here,” her mother said in a soft voice. Obviously urging her to greet the guy and acknowledge his presence.

Lucy finally gave Cedric a glance. And the sight of his face. Well, she was disgusted and she at the same time wanted to laugh.

There were bruises on his face, definitely from last night, and one of his eyes was almost close.

“He got into an accident yesterday,” her mother started explaining. “Some drunk driver ran into his car, fortunately, he survived with little bruises.”

Was that what he told her parents? Lucy wanted to scoff.

She had thought she would tremble. In fact, she was shaking inside from sitting in the same proximity as him. But it was disgusting to know that he had the guts to lie to her parents again.

He tried to smile at her and she looked away after mumbling a greeting.

“Well, you should have guessed why we called you here.” Her father started in a deep grumpy voice. “We are considering—”

“Yes, Lucy.” Her mother cut him off and gave Lucy an excited look. “Henry and I have planned to forgive you and let go of everything. You’ll come back home and we’ll be together aga—”

“Grace.” Her father’s voice stopped her and he gave her a pointed look.

Lucy smiled at their interaction. It was clear her father wanted to seem intimidating, and her mother was spoiling his game.

“As I was saying, Lucy.” Her father directed his stern gaze to her and Lucy shifted back. “What you did was unforgivable. You not only brought down the reputation of this family, you’ve made us a hot topic in this city and have our business rivals basking in our glory.” He paused to give her a disappointed look.

“Even though we’ve done all we could to shut down the rumor—” he continued. “— It will do nothing to erase the memories of what happened from the people’s brains. This is the first time something similar to this have ever happened in this family. It was such a huge shock to have my daughter do that kind of thing.”

Lucy’s heart skipped a beat, hearing his last words. My daughter. He had called her his daughter. That meant he was going to let things go.

Happiness bubbled in her heart and she kept on listening. True to his words, it had been a huge shock. She had never seen her father so enraged. But he’d cooled down in such a short time. There was no way her parents could ever hate her.

Her mother squeezed her hand and nodded. “Your father is right, Lucy. We’ve both been shocked and overwhelmed by what happened. We knew we’ve told you stay away from that guy. We didn’t wait to listen whether it was really your fault or not. Even Gina had told us through your brothers. Everyone said it wasn’t your fault. So we think we owe you an apology—”

“Grace.” The middle-aged man stopped her in her words. And he gave her a look. The woman was spoiling his game again.

“But since you’re my daughter.” Her father continued from where he stopped. “We will consider forgiving you. We will accept you apology and let bygones be bygones.”

Lucy kept ignoring Cedric whose presence was like a sore thumb to her current happiness. Her heart wanted to burst with joy and she gave her father a rapid nod while trying to control her sobs.

Just hearing them say they forgave her was everything. That was all she ever wanted.

She gave her father a smile whose expression wavered, before he quickly retained his stern expression.

“Don’t get too happy,” he grumbled. “Your brothers and their wives had a say in this—”

“Yes, Lucy.” Her mother chipped in. “Your brothers pestered your father day and night. Your big brother even threatened to quit managing the company. And their wives were here every time. Everyone wanted you to come back.”

Her father gave her mother a helpless look. He didn’t interrupt her this time for spilling everything out.

And Lucy’s heart swelled once more. She almost broke into sobs. She should have known her brothers would never leave things like that. They’d fight for her and make sure she returned. She couldn’t even imagine how frightened her father would be if her big brother threatened him with the company.
