Chapter 78: Went To A Bar

“Lucy!?” Her mother looked as if she was struck by an invisible force. She staggered and gripped her husband’s arm for support. “Y-You joking. Y-You didn’t sleep at his place.”

“Of course, I did Mum.” Lucy threw herself in her mother’s arms and sobbed. “Please believe me. I swear I’m telling the truth,” She whispered in her mother’s ears. “Brother Cedric’s not for me, he’s a liar. He doesn’t like me. He’ll only torment me and—”

“Lucy.” Her mother’s voice made her stop. The woman pulled away and stared into her face with teary eyes.

“Just stop this nonsense, okay?” She said softly and held Lucy’s cheeks. “We know you hate the idea of marriage. But don’t say these kinds of things. Don’t you know you’re demeaning us at this moment? How can you say such things in front of our son-in-law.”

Her mother glanced behind her shoulder where Cedric was still seated and she gave him an apologetic look.

“We know we raised you well, Lucy.” Her father gave her a look of disappointment. There were storms in his eyes but he managed to keep his anger at bay. It was only from his hard tone that Lucy was convinced he was raging inside. “I don’t want to hear any of these meaningless words from you. Just because you don’t want to marry doesn’t give you the right to call others bad names.”

Lucy felt helpless, looking between her parents. They were both whispering, afraid that Cedric would hear their words. They didn’t want to listen to her. They thought she was just making things up. They didn’t believe she was actually staying with Greg. And they thought she was slinging mud at Cedric in order to spoil his name and get them not to speak of the marriage.

“You and Cedric are already engaged, Lucy.” Her mother continued whispering. “That is never going to change. How can you think of mentioning another man in his presence? Even though he didn’t show it don’t you think it is only going to hurt his pride? Go and talk to him please.” She glanced between her husband and Lucy. “You are both practically couples now. Speak with him, I don’t want what happened a few days ago to repeat itself. We believe it wasn’t your fault and we’ll still keep on believing that.”

She continued pleading with her eyes and tugged at her husband’s arm. “Let’s go, Henry. Let’s give them space to talk.”

Lucy could see the fears in her mother’s eyes. She was afriad, almost weak. She was scared what happened might repeat itself. That she might do something silly to make her father send her out again. And things would be ruined once more. Lucy could not even imagine what her mother went through throughout that process. She said she had sleepless nights, there was no doubt to that.

And guilt slowly gripped at her heart. She felt guilty that she had to let them down. However, if it meant exposing Cedric’s true colors, she’d do everything. She wouldn’t stay with a man like him.

Cedric was still sitting on the couch, watching them silently with his expression calmed. He had obviously been listening to their conversations, even though he appeared as if he wasn’t. He heard every exchange between her and her parents, but still, his expression never wavered. He wasn’t fazed by the fact that she was pointing him out as a bad person.

That was just how cunning he was. How could he put up with such façade even at this moment?

“Father.” Lucy held her father’s arm this time as they were about to walk away again. “I swear I’m not lying,” she said frantically. “If you know what kind of person he is, you wouldn’t want to let me near him. He’s very mean to me. Even last night at the bar—”

“You went to a bar?” Her mother exclaimed and her father stiffened.

They both stared at her wide-eyed, the shock returning tenfold. Even her father’s expression was readable at the moment. He was in pure shock and Lucy flinched back and released his arm as the storms returned into his eyes which were turning red already.

Both couple’s expression were the same and they gave her a far-off look. And at the same time, as if a realization had suddenly dawned on them, her mother let out a cry of shock. And her father, he flared up.

“Lucy!?” His tone was filled with outrage and the room shook with his voice.

Her mother’s eyes rolled in their socket and Lucy was afraid she was going to faint..That was when Cedric darted forward to support her mother..

“Y-You were telling the truth!?” Her father demanded. “You were really with those boys. You weren’t with Gina. Were you out of your mind!?”

Lucy jumped and took several steps back. Her heart beat so heavily it fought to break out of her ribcage.

Did they believe her now? Was it because she had mentioned a bar. She said she was at a bar last night and they instantly conjured everything together that she was with Greg. They thought Gina would never take her to a bar, at least not in this mind of situation. That was why at the mention of a bar, their thoughts went directly to Greg.

But Lucy was not done yet. She hadn’t finished speaking her words.

And even though her whole body was trembling and her nerves were breaking inside and her lips were quivering, she pushed herself to let the words out. She wouldn’t let Cedric have an upper hand. Her parents might have now believed she had really stayed with Greg, but she wasn’t sure if that would even change Cedric’s mind. He was so hellbent on making her life a hell.

“It’s true father.” She gave a shaky nod and made sure she had put a considerable distance from her father. “I was at the bar… And Brother Cedric was also there,” she stammered. “He. He even pinned me against the wall and tried to—”
