The Mischievous CEO Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 79: You Knew All Along
Chapter 79
“Oh my God.” Her mother pressed both hands on her chest and let out a huge gasp. As if her eyes couldn’t get wider. She looked as if she was going to pass out for real this time and her father— apart from rage, the shock had returned and he took a long time to break out of his trance.
A pin-drop silence hung in the atmosphere, coupled with the tension that came with it.
And recognition flashed in Cedric’s eyes. His eyes narrowed and a big frown formed on his face as he stared at Lucy. Right then, the realization also hit him and there was a change in his expression. Now he had also believed that she had been with Greg. There was no more doubt in his eyes. He had finally realized that she was the same blonde that was with Greg last night. And she was the same blonde that he had tried to have his way with.
Lucy wrapped both hands around herself at that memory. It was too horrible to remember. She had almost been scathed by this man. And if it wasn’t for Jai that had saved her from his clutches, she would have been telling another story to her parents at this moment. A story not so different from this one. Only that it would even be more horrible.
Her parents stared between her and Cedric at the same time. And Lucy hoped they believed her this time. No, she prayed they believe her and realized Cedric had been lying to them. He had lied to them that his bruise was only because of an accident. And he wasn’t at the bar last night.
“What were you doing at a bar, Lucy!?” Her father’s words sliced through the silence and all hell broke loose. Everything happened so fast Lucy couldn’t wrap her head around it. One moment, her father was standing there and the next second, he was lunging at her with his cane raised high in the air.
Her mother screamed in fear and Lucy could hear several more screams. It was the servants. They were sure eavesdropping.
She didn’t have time to run. Her feet were glued to the spot and she braced herself, ready for the attack. The worst that could happen was her father breaking her bones. She might even become immobile. Maybe that way, this psychopath would lose an interest in her and she would once more live her life in peace.
But that attack never came. It was as if time had stopped and everything had slowed down. But the contrary was the case. Nothing had slowed down and her father’s attack was still there. Only that it was now hanging mid-air.
His cane was raised her up in the air, never coming down because Cedric had evaded the attack for her. He was holding her father’s cane, Lucy did not know when he even came to stand between her and her father.
She was still shocked out of her skin. Too shocked to react.
“Beating her won’t solve anything, Uncle,” Cedric said in a pacifying tone still holding her father’s cane. “You’ll only hurt her, please don’t do that.” He breathed out a heavy sigh and carefully made her father dropped his had as well as the cane.
His back was to Lucy as he faced her father. And she couldn’t fathom his expression. Only from his voice, she had deduced that he appeared calm. How could he still play cool at this moment? Even when she had exposed him? What was wrong with him? Wasn’t he supposed to be hanging his head in shame right now or even leaving in shame?
She never expected her father to try attacking her first. Did they not hear what she said about Cedric? Maybe he heard but decided to ignore. Maybe they thought she was lying on him. What was the meaning of this? Shouldn’t they be questioning Cedric?
“F-Father—”
“It doesn’t matter if she was at the bar or not.” Cedric’s words cut her off. And he left her father’s side to come and stand by her side. “Lucy was right, I was also at the bar,” he admitted calmly without batting an eye. And he used that chance to wrap an arm over Lucy’s shoulde, she was once again too shocked to react. “I’m sorry from hiding it from you, this is what I was afraid of and didn’t let you know.” He glanced at her father’s cane and sighed.
Lucy was taken aback and she staggered out of his hold. What the hell was he talking about? How could he make up this kind of lie? He obviously did not know who she was last night. He even had the gut to lie again to her parents.
Before she could completely walk away from him, he brought her back by wrapping an arm around her shoulder, tightly this time. “I might have been drunk, I can’t recall all the details. All I know is, I was trying to go after her but I lost her,” he said in regret while his hold kept on tightening around her shoulder.
Having him close to her now and holding her, Lucy’s hairs stood at the end and a deep shiver ran down her spine. She couldn’t even struggle again because he was holding her too tightly. And she fought the urge to cry. How could he do this to her? Had she ever offended him in any kind of way?
“You will be good and stop with this nonsense.” Cedric glanced sideways and whispered in her ear. “You won’t say any word, understand?”
Lucy stiffened at his words and she tried to push him away once more. She only stopped struggling because she was afraid he was going to break her arm. Because as she struggled, his grip only got tighter, his fingers were digging into her shoulder and she bit her lips, fighting the sobs that wanted to escape.
“Son.” Her mother’s widened eyes went from her to Cedric. “D-Does that mean you also knew? You knew all along that she was with that boy?”
She asked in wonder. Her father also had that questioning look in his eyes. They were staring at Cedric in disbelief.
