Chapter 80: It Is Only For Your Happiness

Why would they ask that? Weren’t they supposed to inquire about why he was also at the bar and what he was doing there? Were they not supposed to ask if he was really telling the truth about only following her and not doing anything else?

Right! He had lied that he was drunk and couldn’t remember some things, so as to make her parents think that even if something would have happened, it wasn’t entirely his fault.

Lucy sniffed and waited. She what Cedric’s answer would be to her mother. She waited for another lie from him. The next lie he was going to skillfully conjure up.

“I’m afriad I also have that knowledge, Auntie.” Cedric replied. “I had my suspicion he had taken her, but I never confirmed things until last night. They were together at the bar. And she was drunk—” he glanced at Lucy, putting on a helpless look. “Which was why I followed her. I thought I could save her but I lost her. It’s entirely my fault. I should have told you,” he said in a humble voice.

The middle-aged woman covered her mouth and shook her head with teary eyes. She appeared speechless.

And Lucy’s father— his expression changed and he cleared his throat.

Lucy herself didn’t know what to think at this moment. How could he admit he also knew she was with Greg? How did that make sense? And how could he say Greg was the one that took her? Was he implying that Greg had taken her by force and even brought her with him to the bar— just to mess with her? He said she was drunk and he had gone after her to save her, from Greg. Was he trying to tell her parents that Greg had held her captive and she hadn’t gone to him willingly? That Greg had done all that all because of him?

“I only hid it from you because I don’t know how it will look.” Cedric went on after the prolonged silence. “Because of me, your daughter’s life had been put in danger. She didn’t deserve all of that. Everything that happened in the engagement and up to this moment, it was all caused by my carelessness. I should have taken good measures before trusting them as my business partners.”

“Oh, Son.” Her mother’s voice broke and she shook her head again. “You didn’t do anything wrong. As we’ve said earlier, Lucy also had a part to play with it. We’ve hidden it from you, but she had once got herself into a scandal with them. It’s not totally your fault, okay?”

“And Lucy.” The woman turned to look at her. “Oh, my child. Your father and I are so sorry. We should have known he captured you to get back at Cedric. And your father shouldn’t have sent you back.” She pulled Lucy from Cedric’s arm and wrapped her in a hug. “You must have been so scared. Tell me, how did you escape? He didn’t do anything to you right?”

A lump formed in Lucy’s throat and tears welled up in her eyes. How had things come to this? How could Cedric twist her words around and use them to his advantage? How could he treat the situation like this? Wasn’t he supposed to be mad? She had even stayed with another man for god’s sake. That should have done something to hurt his pride. He should be disgusted by her now and even get away from her. Not defend her. But Lucy knew well he wasn’t trying to defend her alone. He was also doing it because of his psycopathic whims. His logic was twisted and she had managed to stumble into the arms of this maniac.

Her father’s anger had evaporated and all that was left in his expression was regret. He must be regretting that he shouldn’t have sent her out there alone. He hadn’t shown it earlier, but now it was clearly showing in his face.

Her parents were both convinced again by his lies. He had lay everything out in such a way that he wasn’t the one to be blamed nor she. He had put it as if Greg was the culprit in this case. He was the villain that had spoiled everything.

Lucy buried her head in her mother’s shoulders and sobbed. How could Greg had done anything to her? She thought back to her earlier question. Greg was a good person compared with Cedric. He didn’t do anything or touch her. He had given her his words and he stood by it. Although he wouldn’t bat an eye and could cause trouble whenever he pleased, he would never do something as shameless as lying. He’d rather come out in public and do what he truly intended.

Compared to Cedric, Greg was the saint. And Cedric was the cruelest devil.

“I don’t want him, Mum,” she pleaded in a weak voice. “I’d rather be with Greg than to marry him. I want to go back to Greg.”

Her mother did not seem to hear her as she kept on sobbing. And Lucy pulled back to look into the woman’s eyes. “mum?” She called out and gave her a pleading look, silently begging her for help.

But her mother frown and shook her head. That only meant she had heard her words. “Stop being delusional Lucy,” she murmured. “And don’t cause any more trouble for yourself. You angered your father because you made it look as if you followed him to the bar willingly. If you don’t want this marriage now, talk with Cedric and you both shall decide on a date. I promise we won’t butt in. It is only for your happiness.”
