Chapter 84: He Was Struck

Even though he had been the one that convinced her to follow him to his home, hadn’t he been the one that had initially wanted to bring her back to her parents?

He only took pity in her because he thought she was going to end up stranded in another city.

And now that her parents had captured her, he was going to rejoice. He would be relieved of her burden. And he’d live his life happily because he wouldn’t have hovering over him and demanding his care.

He would be happier than anyone that she had no business with him.

Another laugh left her lips as she wiped off her streaming tears.

She had thought bring Greg here with her would only worsen matters. She had thought he would only hand her to her parents, if not happily. Who knew the same fate awaited her whether she came here with him or not? He was spared the trouble of having to rid of her. Even though he had insisted on taking care of her, Lucy couldn’t help but think twice. How could he be so selfless and carry that huge burden? It wasn’t like he would get anything in return. She didn’t have anything to offer him.

Still, she wanted to go back to him and keep on leeching off him. He wouldn’t ask for anything but she would give anything to get away from Cedric.

Greg sat in his office, one minute glancing at his wristwatch and the next minute, trying to put whatever the hell the document was talking about in his head.

“Damnit!” He let out a curse and tossed the document aside.

What was the point of staring at his wristwatch? He had been doing the same thing for hours. Eight hours for the record.

It had been eight hours since he left the house and approximately seven hours since she left for her parents’ place.

The cab man had called and assured him that he had successfully dropped her there. She had gone to her parents place but she never returned.

He had asked for food delivery to be taken to his house. Well, the delivery guy met an empty place. A locked door and no human around.

She didn’t come back. A soft laugh left his lips. Why was he even surprised? Hadn’t he predicted this exact thing last night?

She looked anxious to meet her parents. She didn’t tell h the reason why she wanted to meet her parents. But he already knew the reason. And now that she didn’t come back, did that mean everything had been cleared.

She had finally agreed. And as he expected, her parents had forgiven her.

And right now, she and that bastard were on their way to wherever the hell they were going. They must be on their way to the registry or even to their honeymoon, what did he care?

Hell! He cared. He’d give every kind of damn that he cared. Why wouldn’t he anyway. He’d promised himself to keep her, well! She had slipped out of his hold. The first promise he had ever broken by himself. No— this was the second time. The previous time, he had promised never to interfere in her life, ever. But a fool that he was. He had stepped on that promised and followed his emotions. Taking her to his home and thinking some kind of magic would happen. She was naïve. Too naïve. How could she not see that? He had risked everything, even challenged himself. He had gone after something he knew he wanted, he never really needed it. He’d offer her everything, and now she was ditching him and going back to that scumbag?

Hadn’t she told him she never liked him? Hadn’t she said she was not happy with the arrangement?

But now with her parents forgiveness, she went throwing herself into his arms. And he— he was left here alone.

Alone to lick his wounds. Hell! He had no wound to lick. It was her lose not his. And she was going to regret ever thinking of leaving him. He’d just watch and see.

Another document was sent flying in the air and the office was in a mess. The whole table was almost wiped clean and all its contents were on the floor.

Greg tugged at his necktie again and let out another curse. Did he even have anyone to blame? Wasn’t he supposed to blame himself instead?

He had foolishly enetered a game he knew he was going to lose. He knew she was dangerous and he was ready to exploit that danger.

She never showed any feelings. Why was she so heartless? Several months ago, the first time he had seen her on the plane.

Damnit! He was struck.

He was struck by her beauty. And he knew he had been cut right at that moment, hook line and sinker. He had denied his feelings and only managed to come to terms with it now.

But even then, she had been the same as now. Shit! He couldn’t understand her. She was so conceiling yet her feelings were opened for all. She would take everything that was given to her and wouldn’t give anything in return.

How could she not see past his endeavor?

His actions, she wouldn’t be too childish not to decipher the meaning behind them, right?

Why then did she not think twice before tossing him aside for another man? And that son of a bitch for that matter.

His fingers ran down his jackets buttons and all of them flew open. He undo a few buttons of his shirt as well. But despite the air-conditioning in the office, no amount of cold could douse the raging heat inside of him.

His blood boiled and raged with anger. And shoved the remaining documents that lay on his desk. His eyes went to his phone which was the only thing left on the desk. The damned thing would have suffered the same faith with the documents by now, if he hadn’t controlled himself in the heat of the moment.
