The Mischievous CEO Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 88: Fighting For Her Freedom
Chapter 88
Hadn’t she been the one that had told her not long ago, that Cedric was bad for her? The girl had managed to detect Cedric’s true colors even before she did. How could she tell her now to marry him?
“Don’t get me wrong, Young Miss.” Ara went on, still keeping her voice to a whisper. Her eyes went to the door cautiously before she turned back to Lucy and continued. “What I mean is, now that your parents are no longer mad at you, wouldn’t it be better not to anger them further?” She tried to reason with her.
Lucy did not know what the maid was driving at. She didn’t even know if she should keep listening. Her words were more than she could take. She couldn’t bring herself to entertain the idea of getting married to Cedric. She might sound cruel even to herself, because that only meant going against her parents and angering them. But she honestly couldn’t. The idea of marrying Cedric scared her to the core. It made her shiver inside.
However, she listened silently. She waited to see what Ara was driving at. She wasn’t done speaking anyways. And from her expression, Lucy was tempted not to interrupt her. The girl seemed to have a plan.
“So, if you agree to marry him.” Ara kept on talking. “They’ll both be happy. The whole family would be thrilled to know that.” She paused to take another look at the door and lowered her voice once more, her voice was now barely above a whisper.
“And after that…” She took Lucy’s hands and stared at her in determination. “You will seek for a divorce. You don’t have to stay long with him before asking for a divorce. This way, you’ll be free again. And Master and Madam won’t blame that much. They might even sympathize with you in the process.”
That was a sensible idea. Lucy furrowed her brows and nodded slowly. Every sentence that Ara spoke made sense. She would marry Cedric and ask for a divorce in the end. And she would finally be freed from him. And her parents would also not do anything to try to bring them together anymore. They might not even try to matchmake her with any other man again.
It was well thought out strategy and she had to commend the maid for coming up with this splendid idea. But would she be ables to do that?
“What do you think, Young Miss?” Ara gave her an expectant look. “You’ll agree to marry him, right? And after that, things will turn back to normal.”
Lucy smiled sadly and her head dropped.
As tempting as this idea sounded, and as easy as it looked, would she be able to take the risk? If she agreed to marry Cedric with this plan in mind, would things turn out as she wanted?
The thought of spending even one day together with Cedric terrified her a great deal. It made her hairs stood on end and her nerves frantic. How could she stay even one day with that man without him torturing her? And to seek for a divorce, she would need to wait for sometime to pass. At least, after the honeymoon.
And would Cedric even agree? Would he agree to divorce her? If he finally got a hold of her and gained control over her, would he be willing to let her go that easily after just a short time?
“Young Miss?” Ara called out to her on a soft voice after hearing no reply from her.
“You will do that, right? You’ll agree to marry him, isn’t it?” She asked in expectation.
Lucy fiddled with the hem of her pajamas shirt. She lifted her head and met Ara’s anxious gaze. “I don’t think I can Ara. I– I can’t do that. I can’t marry him.”
Marrying Cedric even for a day would be like murder to her. He’d torture her to the extent that she would lose her sanity. There wasn’t any doubt she would have a mental breakdown. And in that moment, she might even lose her sense of everything else. She might be completely out of her mind to the point that she wouldn’t be able to voice out the word divorce.
And if her nightmares about Cedric was true, something even worse than that was going to happen. There was do doubt that he would try to force thing on her. She couldn’t imagine going through all that. It was too horrible to think about. She couldn’t think of even spending one day with him.
“But what about your parents?” Ara’s expression got sadder. “What are you going to do about them? Madam’s health is not stable at the moment. Is it good to keep protesting?”
Lucy remained silent and kept fiddling with her fingers. She didn’t know what she was going to do about her parents or her mother. As much as she wouldn’t want to anger or disappoint them, she also could not walk headon into a marriage that was already bound to turn her life into hell right from the start.
Even though they were very disappointed now and wod be mad if she kept on protesting, she kept praying that some day, they would finally see Cedric for what he truly was. And they would be grateful that she had rejected him.
She didn’t want to fall into his hands first and wait until they see for themselves what a cruel person he was. She was certain that if she married him willingly, it wouldn’t take long for her parents to see what kind of person he truly was. They would sure see a lot of changes and would sense something was off.
But she wouldn’t wait until that time. Not when it was her life that was on the line and she still exercised a little bit of power to keep on fighting for her freedom.
