The Mischievous CEO Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 90: A Challenge
Chapter 90
The guy finally opened the door for her and she scurried outside without taking one glance back.
Lucy could hear her squabbling with the guy. It turned out that Jonah had only been messing with her. Her father was not in the hallway.
She listened to their banters for a while before Ara’s voice faded away.
Hopefully, she would bring her food soon, because she was starving. Her parents had send her here to ask the same thing during lunch. But she’d preffered her food to be brought here. Going that and joining them would only meant she had given in. They would take it as a sign that she was willing to relent and she had come back to her senses.
And the next thing they might do was ask her to start preparing for her wedding. Hadn’t Cedric said they would marry immediately after the engagement?
And now that she’d had this conversation with Ara, she had to thing things over again. It might turn out good for her if they did everything in a haste just as Ara had said.
If she agreed to marry Cedric without wasting anytime, they would get to carry out their plan smoothly.
She wouldn’t have to stay long with him. And her parents would not have anything against her after the divorce. But would Cedric still agree to divorce her?
Lucy held her head with both hands and stood up to pace around the room. She had to be optimistic. She didn’t need to thing in the wrong way all the time.
Even though she had now learned not to ignore her instincts and the warning bells in her head, she should look on the bright side of things too.
Even though she was afraid, there wasn’t any proof that her plan might fail. It wasn’t healthy to start predicting the probabilities. She would try her luck and see how things would go.
She would keep it in her mind that nothing would happen. She was going to have Ara by her side. She didn’t need to worry about anything.
But being with Cedric. The thought was still sending shivers down her body. And the anxious voices in her head kept increasing. No, she had to be calm. She needed to trust and have faith in her self.
If Ara hadn’t thought through with her plans, she wouldn’t bring this up. She wouldn’t make this kind of suggestion blindly. Not when she also disliked Cedric and wouldn’t want to go near him.
Ara had been staying here for long. They had practically grown up together. Lucy knew Ara not to be a careless person. She was smart and wouldn’t start anything if she wasn’t sure of its outcome.
Ara had been her confidant sometimes when Gina wasn’t around. She’d always keep her company in the house. She might also not like this idea, she just brought it up because she was worried about her relationship with her parents.
Maybe she should let go of her fears and see how things were going to turn out in the end. She would have her trust in Ara and make sure they carry out the plan together.
Even though that idea scared her to the point of breaking down. Even though she didn’t want to entertain the idea of spending even a short time with Cedric. Ara might not be with them all the time throughout that period, and it terrified her that she would some times have to be alone with him.
It didn’t take long for the door to be opened again and Ara came inside with a tray of food in hand.
“Here you go, Young Miss.” She placed it on a small table beside the couch before facing Lucy.
“Master and Madam didn’t look happy that you didn’t join them.” She said in a soft tone. “I hope you’ll arrive at a decision soon, Young Miss.”
Lucy went to the couch and uncovered the plates. “Thank you, Ara. I’ll do what is necessary.”
Ara’s eyes lit up and she bobbed her head eagerly. Without a word, she bid her goodnight and turned around to leave the room.
After Ara left, Lucy could hear the clicking sound of the door. Jonah had locked her again.
She pursed her lips and started eating.
Was he going to spend the whole night in front of her door? That would be uncomfortable. Wasn’t he contented that he had already locked her inside?
However, he was only following her father’s orders. She had no right to be mad at him.
She ate her food slowly as her thoughts went back to Ara’s words. Her parents were gloomy that she didn’t come down to join the. A sad laugh left her lips.
They were worried and still cared about her. They thought she was just being stubborn and wouldn’t stop with her tantrums. How unfortunate for her.
They had always seen her as a whiny baby that didn’t give any thought to everything around her and had no care for anything else except for her chidish thinkings.
She would be lying if she didn’t admit that it pained a lot to know that they always saw her as her baby. A child who couldn’t make credible decisions for herself and didn’t know what she wanted.
She breathe out a sigh and stared into space. If she gave them what they wanted, would they stop thinking of her that way? Would they finally be convinced that she was not a child trapped in an adult’s body?
She dropped her spoon for a while before she kept on eating. If she married Cedric for this short time and lost her freedom for the time being before she asked for the divorce, would their perspective of her change then?
And if she even wanted the divorce, would they support her and not think it was another part of her childish tantrums? Would they try to talk her out of it? However, things were not going to be the same again after she married. Her parents wouldn’t have control over her and she would do whatever she wanted.
Asking for the divorce might not pose any problem then. The only problem might be, Cedric not agreeing with it. And as much as she wanted to consider that thought minor and would love to shove it off her mind, it was harder done than said. She couldn’t ignore it even if she wanted to.
That might turn out as a challenge. A challenge she might win or lose.
