Chapter 94: He Cared That Much

Greg took his time and munched on his breakfast. He obviously was avoiding the subject. But Geroge was not going to let it go. Not when there was a high chance of the wines getting dug up again.

“What if I told you I made her leave?” Greg raised a brow and said calmly.

“Then I’ll also believe those wine bottles only contain water,” George answered and also raised a brow.

Greg sighed and went back to eating his food. “I don’t want to talk about her.”

“Because she broke your heart?”

“The hell, she didn’t.” Greg gave him a narrowed look. “How is that even possible?” He laughed. “It’s only been, how many days?” He frowned and observed his fingers as if counting them.

“Its not more than a week since you realized your feelings.” George concluded his words for him and gave him a serious look. “Tell me why she left,” he asked tiredly and leaned back on the chair.

“It’s none of your business.” Greg shrugged. “Nor mine.”

George rubbed his forehead and gave him another helpless look. He’d be damned if it wasn’t his business. This could affect them both if care wasn’t taken. They’d better find a solution to it now. If only his brother would cooperate.

“You know the rules,” he stated.

Greg raised his brows and laughed. “Blast the rules. I don’t give a damn about any rules.”

“I know you don’t.”

George shook his head. He wouldn’t mind having her, even though she was off limits. She was bloody engaged for heaven’s sake. That was the rule. He couldn’t have her, especially when he was serious.

“And he’s no longer our friend.” Greg continued in a careless tone. “I don’t see why I should follow the rules.”

George nodded in agreement. His brother was right. There was no need to uphold a non-existent loyalty. It would be absurd to think of him as a friend now. Not after what occurred.

“She’s left, but you can still have her. Just tell me why she left and we’ll find a way.”

“I don’t want her.” Greg squinted his eyes that had turned dark again. “And I don’t care why she left. Even if she’s out there preparing for some freaking wedding, it’s none of my concern.”

“Oh.” George nodded in realization. So she went back to him. That should explained a lot. Everything made sense now.

But how could she? That sounded ridiculous. How could she think of going back there?

Was she not aware of his brother’s feelings.

“Let’s get rid of him,” George proposed. That should clear things. He didn’t see why the jerk should have her. He didn’t even deserve her. They should be on their honeymoon— or whatever. As long as he wasn’t in the picture, things would get easier.

Greg looked up and gave his brother a thoughtful look before his lips curled into a smile. “You don’t mean it.”

“I’m serious,” George said in a hard tone. If it’s the only way for you to be with her, I don’t see why we shouldn’t take it.

And although a lot of people might get affected, he didn’t give a damn. It wasn’t different from breaking the rules. The guy was going to face the music, sooner or later, whether he liked it or not.

Greg drummed his fingers on the table. He pushed the tray aside and also leaned back on his chair, using both hands to support the back of his head.

“That will be petty,” he murmured lazily. “I don’t see why I should distrupt her happiness.”

“Are you sure she is happy?” George asked.

From his knowledge of what occurred that night, she hadn’t seemed happy. And he’d seen with his eyes the guy wasn’t taking her seriously. In fact, he had outrightly lied to her on the phone about some useless loyalty.

And the bunch of girls he had been fooling around with in the city— if he was truly ready to settle down he wouldn’t act this way.

“She wasn’t happy.” Greg smiled. “But she should be now. At least, she was happy to go back.”

“You’re kidding.”

George frowned. How could she have changed her mind in no time? That was strange.

Was all these stunts for nothing. Gina had mentioned something about her parents having a hand in this arrangement, was it true then? Had they convinced her?

“I’m not,” Greg answered him and gave him a nonchalant look.

A look that held as much hurt as he tried to hide it. Despite the façade, it was written all over his face.

Was this it?

“You haven’t even get started.” George spoke after some seconds. “Are you going to give up, just like this?”

This would be a first. His brother giving up on something. If there wasn’t any challenge, they’d go looking for it. Conquering anything on their path was just a piece of cake. He couldn’t remember the last time they’d given up on something. Even if it was a minor thing.

Especially this. This wasn’t a matter to trifle with.

Greg chuckled at his words and folded his hands. “I don’t see why I shouldn’t,” He said. “Should I berge into her parents’ place and forced her to come with me or what?” He asked, almost sarcastically.

“Forcing her isn’t a good idea.” George found himself smiling. “But barging in there surely is.”

Now it was Greg that gave him a helpless look.

And George couldn’t understand. He didn’t see why his brother hadn’t done that. He didn’t care about any rules or what her parents might think or do. Why then was he willing to let her go just like this? He should bring her back and make her realize the kind of mistake she’d made.

“Don’t tell me you cared that much,” George couldn’t help but ask.
