Chapter 97: Would She Be Able To Do That

He had a lot remaining. Greg shook his head. But definitely not a gazillion of them. Lucky, he had been in his right mind to close the area. Or else, the first thing his brother would see was the stacks of the bottles.

He wouldn’t even have helped him then. He might have packed all the wines away quietly, leaving him with nothing.

“You’re letting me have a headstart you know.” George called out to him as he had already started playing the game. He took the other console that sat beside him and tossed it to him.

Greg caught the console in time and walked forward to face the screen. His brother would be dreaming if he thought he would lose this time. There was no way he was going to lose. Nowt when he was seeking this hard for a distraction.

And he wasn’t going to let something else distract him. Not her face and definitely not his brother’s provocative words. That was the tactic he had sometimes used to stray his attention, especially when he saw him winning. Infact, they had always used that tactic against each other. But not now. Greg was was determined to win. Even though he could practically see her face in place of the game characters faces, he wasn’t going to let that distract him.

He would go back to his normal life. Where there was only games, women, and more fun. He just needed a few days. He should have confidence in himself.

After winning two rounds, he glanced sideways to find his brother grinning. He didn’t look bothered about losing, he looked happy instead.

“Don’t give me that look.” George chuckled. “I just had a weird idea.”

“I’m all ears.” Greg also found himself grinning. If his brother had an idea, that only meant something mischievous. Something or someone was in to pay the price.

“What if we find a way to make her fall for you?”

Greg frowned at his brother’s words. He hadn’t thought about that. How was that even going to be possible. As far as he knew, it was too late.

“Don’t even think about it.” He sighed and turned his attention back to the screen.

Three Days Later…

Lucy walked away from the window after watching the stars popped up one after another on the sky. Her usually past times for the past three days.

Since she didn’t still want to leave her room, gazing up at the sky every night had become her hobby. Her parents hadn’t pestered her much. They even seemed to have forgotten about her. But that was all in her head. They didn’t forget about her. They just seemed calm and somehow happy. They didn’t even bring up the topic again.

But she knew they would, very soon. The impatience she had seen in her father’s eyes. However, he had hidden it with his usual relaxed expression.

They were waiting for her, patiently. To say the word. To say that she had finally agreed. They must have had an idea she was contemplating on the fact and it was only a matter of time before she agreed. Maybe they’d guessed it themselves or Ara had hinted them about it, she wasn’t sure.

But it wasn’t far from the truth that they must have guessed it. After all, she never threw any tantrums again. Even the many times her mother came inside to talk to her, she never voiced it out that she didn’t like the arrangement. That was a relief to her parents. She didn’t say she didn’t want to be with him or she didn’t want to marry him again.

And Cedric. Ara had told her that he’d been coming to the mansion. Well, she never saw him face to face, only from a distance. When her parents weren’t looking, she’d sneak out of her room to take a peek at them. And to see Cedric buttering them up with his lies.

Her parents hadn’t summoned her whenever he came, which was still a surprise to her. But she knew the reason why. Since they’d seen a sign that she was about to agree, they thought it best to let her give in completely first, so they wouldn’t have a hard time proceeding with the arrangements.

Lucy lay down on her bed and shuffled under the sheets. Despite Ara’s well laid out plan, why couldn’t she say yes already. She knew she wanted to. So they could get everything over with as soon as possible. Yet, the word felt hard on her tongue whenever she wanted to let it out. It was as if it was glued there and would take a lot of strength for her to be able to shove it out.

But that wasn’t the case. Because whenever she wanted to utter it, those thoughts of fears would return, and the anxieties that came with them. She tried so hard to ignore it, using every positive affirmation she could ever think of, but her efforts proved futile.

And those words kept playing in her mind. Even though she had a high chance of success, would she be able to do that?

And so, whenever her mother came, the woman had to turn back and leave in disappointment. She didn’t show it, but Lucy could feel it. They were waiting patiently, but they didn’t want to prolong the matter.

Right now, she could really do with some advice. Because her thoughts were a mess and her mind was torn into two.

She knew she had to agree, why couldn’t she say it yet?

Too bad, her phone was still with her parents. They didn’t think of giving back even when she had asked her mother. They were skeptical that she might call and tell her brothers. And that might take them back to the beginning. Because they had started seeing some progress in her.
