The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 10: Was Fate Playing A Joke On Her
Chapter 12
That night, Eve was slightly mad at Ethan. She paced in her room, wondering what she would have to do to make him believe her.
Ethan didn’t even come down for dinner, and this time, Eve didn’t pressure the Stewardess to let her take the food to him. She was afraid Ethan would not eat the food, just like he did with lunch.
The next morning, she looked around the house and Ethan was nowhere to be found. She checked his study room, his bedroom, and everywhere she could think of.
It was still the weekend. Was he avoiding her so much that he would just slip away? Why had the tables turned?
“Please get me the telephone and dial the ancestral mansion,” Eve ordered one of the maids.
Even if she still had her phone with her, Ethan might probably not pick up her calls with his current attitude.
“Here it is, Madam.” The servants had gotten comfortable with calling her Madam, and that made her happy.
She placed the telephone on her ear and after ringing for a while, the call disconnected. No one picked it up.
Eve tried again. She just hoped someone was close by to answer the phone.
After ringing again for a while, Eve was convinced the phone would disconnect again. But miraculously, someone picked it up.
“Who on earth uses this means of communication nowadays? What kind of dump person is that? Can you even hear me well?”
Eve snickered and rolled her eyes.
“If you can’t speak, I’m hanging up. You’re in this era and you don’t use a mobile phone. Tsk tsk tsk, even my Grandpa doesn’t associate with such people. That’s it, I’m hanging up–”
“Don’t you dare hang up on me, Matt!” Eve had had enough of the guy’s baseless boasting.
“Are my ears paining me? Is it sister-in-law?”
“Yes, your ears are paining you.”
“Ah, Evelyn, it’s really you,” Matt chuckled. “What? Why did you call this early? Did you miss me so much that you can’t wait to hear my voice? You could just ask for my number and I’ll generously give it to you.”
“Shut up,” Eve scoffed. “Is your brother at the mansion?”
“Why are you asking about my Big Bro? How should I know of his whereabouts?”
“Well, you can help me look around and see if he’s in the Mansion. He must be with Grandpa or probably in his room.”
“And why should I do that? Do you think I’m some kind of errand boy you can order around?”
“Matt.” Eve groaned inside. “You’d better start searching for him now. I give you five minutes.”
“Well, well well, Evelyn. It appears you’ve grown invisible wings. You dare order me around? I’ll come down to that villa and pull your hair out. Besides, I have a bone to pick with you. How could you snoop into my private life? How did you know about my buddies?”
“Come at me if you dare.” Eve rolled her eyes. “If you chicken out this time, you’re going to call me godmother.”
Seeing that Matt wasn’t of any help, Eve hung up. She had expected the call to be picked up by the servants, not by Ethan’s crazy brother.
But before Eve could give the telephone back to the servant, it rang and she answered it only to hear Matt’s voice.
“Who did you call a chicken? I dare you to repeat that!”
“If you don’t leave me alone, Matt, I’ll go back on my promise and tell Grandpa about your secret.”
“As if he’s going to believe you.” Matt sounded confident when he said that. “Look here, Evelyn. Stay out of my business, if not, I won’t care that you’re my sister-in-law, I deal with my enemies in very strange ways.”
Eve shook her head, sighing softly.
Apart from being a reckless guy, Matt was all talk. Eve couldn’t even bring herself to be mad at him despite having the desire to be. She just felt pity for the stupid guy.
She was also tired of bantering with him, so she hung up and asked the maid to take the telephone away. Seemed like she had to wait patiently until Ethan decided to come home.
However, Eve’s nerves jiggled with anxiousness. She paced for a while in the living room. She didn’t stop pacing until she heard the sound of the gates.
She walked out to the front area, and instead of a car, someone walked in after the security man opened the gates.
What now?
Eve supported her forehead with both hands. The more things happened so fast, the more confused she became.
Did she not possess the power to change her destiny? Was fate playing a huge joke on her?
The figure that just walked into the house was no other person but Cole. Eve could remember that in her past life, it was Mia that brought him to the Villa. But after what she and Ethan did to Mia yesterday, she wasn’t sure if Mia was the one behind this.
The security had stalled Cole and was asking him questions. He didn’t release him until both their eyes came to Eve who stood by the door.
Before Cole approached her, Eve walked up to him.
“Hey, surprised?” Cole stared down at her, smiling.
“Yeah.” Eve nodded. “I am very surprised.” And she was torn between asking the security to throw him out or running back into the house and shutting the door.
“Why are you here, Cole?”
It wasn’t to elope with her, right?
“I came to give you this.” He showed her the small bag in his hand. “I couldn’t do much for you at the store, Eve. I hope you aren’t mad.”
“Oh, that’s nothing. In fact, I was very happy.” Eve was happy that she didn’t receive his help in the end. “And what is in the bag?”
“This.” Cole opened it slightly so she could have a peek inside. “This is your purse, the one you left at the store. Your phone was already destroyed, so I had to buy you a new one. But your sim cards are intact.”
Her phone and her purse? Eve hesitated before taking the bag from him. “You didn’t have to buy me a new phone? Just returning my purse would suffice.”
“No, take it.” Cole pushed the phone back into her hand as she brought it out and handed it to him. “It’s the least I could do. I wasn’t able to stand up for you at the store, I promise to make it up to you.”
“No.” Eve shook her head. “From now on, you don’t have to do anything.”
As Cole had come here himself and Ethan was not in the house, this was the perfect time to put an end to this nonsense.
“I know we’ve been together right from the province, Cole. But I’m now married. I want you to respect my identity and let’s stop seeing each other.”
