The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 11: Seeking Death
Chapter 13
Cole looked shocked for a few seconds before a big frown formed on his forehead.
“What are you talking about, Eve?” He took her hands and asked in confusion. “Why are you suddenly saying this? Is there something that is bothering you? Tell me, what did Mr. Anderson threaten you with?”
“Urgh! Nothing is wrong with me.” Eve shook his hands off. “Cole, see. There’s no need to keep pretending anymore. I know you don’t really like me, you’re doing all this because Mia put you up to it.”
As if caught red-handed committing a crime, Cole stepped back and opened his mouth then closed it.
“So if you will excuse me, Mr. Nathan. Stop wasting your time, because I’m done listening to your lies.”
“How could you say such things, Eve?” Cole quickly retained his calm look. “Since when did you get this idea into your head? Remember the years we have spent together, remember our promises to each other. You can’t just wake up one morning and declare our relationship is over.”
Eve could very well remember those promises. And that was what broke her heart the most when he and Mia revealed their ploys to her in her past life.
She’d given him her heart from a young age, she loved him to the point that she risked her life several times. But in her most desperate moment, he shattered her heart and toss her away like trash.
Eve could feel the feeling of betrayal building up in her chest, but she pushed it down and lifted her chin.
She’d long been numbed to his affection, ever since she was given this second chance.
“That’s exactly what I’m going to do, Cole. From now on, our relationship is over. You and Mia don’t have to do things in secret. Besides, you two deserve each other. Go to hell or wherever people like you belong to! I’m done living in your lies.”
Seeing his expression change again, Eve was relieved that he wasn’t too dumb to understand her words.
“Now, if you could get out of here before I call the security, I’ll greatly appreciate it,” she pointed to the gate and said coldly.
Cole looked speechless. He stared at Eve for a long time, before dropping his head. Then he looked up and smiled. And what he did next knocked out the air in Eve’s lungs.
Cole pulled her closer and hugged her tightly. So tight that Eve couldn’t breathe properly.
“I didn’t know you weren’t totally dumb,” he whispered in her ear. “How did you know the truth? Who revealed it to you?”
“L–Let me go!” Eve’s eyes stung. The more she struggled, the more he held her tightly. “Cole, you maniac. Let go of me.”
With each second that passed by, Eve found it hard to breathe. Was he trying to suffocate her to death?
“Yes, Mia is the only woman I love. You dared think that you could take up her place in the rich family. You snatched everything away from her, and I’ll also make sure you lose everything you have…”
“Cole, Let me go.” Eve’s breathing was ragged. “Please… Let go.” Tears clouded in her eyes and her chest hurt.
“For your information, Evelyn, I’ll make sure you live through hell. Mia went through a lot because of you, and I’ll make you go through worse. You were born as a bum, and I’ll make sure you die as one.”
At that moment, a cold wind breezed past. Eve didn’t know what happened next. One moment, Cole was hugging her tightly, and the next moment, she was on the ground, panting heavily and gasping for air.
She patted her chest rapidly as she coughed frantically. It wasn’t until her blurred vision cleared up that she saw the figure in front of her.
Ethan towered above her, glaring down at her. He was holding Cole in place with one hand, while his other hand was balled into a fist. There was also a golf club on the ground beside him.
It turned out he was the one that freed her of Cole’s embrace. Had he been home all this time? Had he been playing golf at the back of the Villa?
“Evelyn, how dare you! Making out with a man in the middle of the day under my nose, uh? You’re both seeking death!”
Eve flinched at the rage in his eyes.
“It– It is not what you’re thinking, Ethan.” Eve staggered to her feet. Her knees were still weak. “I– I swear I can explain. It is– It is his fault.”
“What’s the use in denying it, Eve?” Cole had a mischievous smirk on his face. “So what if we make out? It isn’t like we’re doing anything wrong. Don’t we love each other?”
“No, he’s lying!” Eve shook her head frantically. “D–Don’t believe him, Ethan. If you hadn’t arrived, he would have suffocated me to death.”
“Silence, both of you!” Ethan gritted out. “I am very disappointed in you, Evelyn. And you–” he glanced at Cole. “–I can see you are tired of living. Why don’t I do you a favor and make your death fast.”
“You’re overestimating yourself, Mr. Anderson,” Cole scowled. “You’re keeping my woman captive, and you think you can do as you please. Why don’t we settle this man-to-man?”
“She is not your woman. She is my wife.”
“Ethan, don’t listen to him.” Eve’s fearful gaze darted between both men. “He’s up to no good, let’s call the police and have him arrested.”
“Shut up!” Ethan’s glare made Eve shut her mouth instantly.
But she couldn’t just watch without doing anything. In her past life, when Ethan beat Cole up, it later on affected his reputation.
Because Cole was also not from a simple background, his family took the incident to the media. They twisted the truth and successfully tainted Ethan’s reputation.
“Ethan…”
“Just shut up!”
Cole had already taken a defensive stance, waiting for Ethan to attack. He didn’t seem to care that Ethan could beat him up. And it was all in the name of creating a problem between Eve and Ethan.
“I only fight with men that are worthy of a duel.” Ethan picked up the golf club. “As for you, I’m going to beat you up.”
The blaring sound of a car horn came from outside the gates. The honk was so loud that it ripped through the atmosphere. Also, that person did not stop honking. It was so rapid that the security man ran in circles before opening the gates.
Then a flashy blue car zoomed in. It came to a screeching halt, just a few inches from Eve’s legs.
Eve’s heart almost flew out of her chest. She trembled so much that she almost fainted in shock.
“I dare you to repeat that I’m a chicken, Evelyn.” Matt stormed out of the car and charged toward her. “This Young Master is going to show you today that he’s the all-mighty ice king. No one trifles with me unless they’re seeking death.”
