The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 17: Was She Imagining Things
Chapter 19
“Elena, Ethan won’t take me to the mall.” Eve went back into the house, devasted.
“Oh, no. That’s so sad, Madam.” Elena sat her down on a couch in the living room. “It’s alright, wipe off that sad look on your face. It must be that Young Master has something important to take care of.”
But wasn’t Eve his wife? Hadn’t they agreed that he would prioritize her over everything else?
“Even if Young Master follows you to the mall, I don’t think he will be of much help, Madam,” Elena sat beside her and said. “He can’t choose your clothes for you, right? He also might not be an expert in female fashion.”
But at least he would help her carry her bags. Wasn’t that what loving couples do?
Eve gazed at the ceiling and sighed.
“You know what, Madam,” Elena spoke again. “Let me accompany you to the mall. Since I’m an expert and I know the things you need, it will be easier for you to shop around.”
Eve’s eyes left the ceiling and they landed on the Stewardess. “That will be so nice of you, Elena. But I don’t want to trouble you.”
“It is all part of serving you.” Elena smiled. “Isn’t that what my job is in this house?”
“That’s right. Thank you, Elena.” Eve picked up her bag and stood up. “We must hurry, I don’t want us to return late.”
She wanted to return before Ethan did. She couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when she wore something nice. What would his reaction be like?
“That’s right, Madam. Thankfully, there’s a mall downtown where you can find all you need. We won’t have to go from store to store.”
They left the house and headed to the parking lot. But there was no one in sight. Not the driver, and not even one of Ethan’s bodyguards.
The only man left in the house was the security at the gate.
“Madam,” Elena called her attention. “Do you perhaps, know how to drive?”
Several cars lined up in the parking lot. Ethan must have all their keys in his bedroom or study room… But,
“I can’t drive, Elena!” Eve whined. And she never learned how to.
“How do we get to the mall now, Madam?” Elena masked her surprise at Eve’s confession with a worried look.
“The only way we can get to the mall is to trek or take a taxi,” Eve answered. “And that is like impossible, because there’s no taxi around this area. And if we risk trekking there, our legs might get amputated or even worse when they can no longer walk.”
“Madam!” Elena’s eyes widened. “Now, that isn’t going to happen. Brighten up and quit being pessimistic. Here, I’ll book us a taxi, and it will arrive here in five to ten minutes.” She brought out her phone and logged into an app.
Eve held her breath while Elena searched for a nearby taxi. And her lips curled up when in no time, the woman was able to locate one.
“This app is great, Elena. When I get a new phone, can you send it to me? Remind me to buy one when we reach the mall.”
“Sure, Madam.” Elena nodded. “All we have to do now is wait for a little while. The taxi is on the way.”
“Okay.” Eve’s gloom instantly washed away and her mood lightened up.
They left through the gates and waited for the taxi outside the villa. Just as Elena said, the taxi arrived in no less than five minutes.
They both hopped in and headed right to the mall.
“This place is so huge.”
“That’s why I told you we’ll find everything we need here, Madam.” Elena paid the taxi driver and they walked into the mall.
“First, we will go to the boutique area. That is where we can find you nice dresses.”
Eve bobbed her head rapidly. She couldn’t wait to try out many clothes. And she began wondering what Ethan’s preferences would be like.
“After the boutique, we’ll shop for more toiletries and cosmetics. And let’s not forget about a collection of jewelry too, Madam.”
“Do you think we should note them down?” Eve didn’t want to leave anything out. But what if she got carried away and forgot to buy everything?
“That will not be a problem, Madam. I have a great memory, I can remember all you need off hand.”
They followed the directions and headed to the fashion boutique.
Thousands of dresses all in different styles and colors came into Eve’s view and her lips parted. Now, she couldn’t wait to try everything out.
“Let’s find the ones you need at the moment; like casual wear and nightwear. For important occasions, I advise you to go for designer wear. You should let the Young Master know that you need a personal designer.”
Eve nodded to the Stewardess’s instructions, her eyes fixed on the dresses on the rack.
“This section is where all people can shop. Let’s go inside and find something more expensive.”
“But these dresses are beautiful enough, Elena.” Eve picked a blue dress and admired it.
“Believe me, Madam, you don’t want that. Although they don’t look much different from the expensive ones, they fade early and can tear at any time, because they’re made of low-quality materials.”
“Oh.” Eve nodded in understanding. When she was brought here to the city, she didn’t know where her clothes come from. The servants would just come and ask her what she preferred, and the next day they’d fill up her closet.
There were not many people present in the area Elena spoke about. And unlike racks, the dresses and nightwears were neatly fit into mannequins.
“Madam, try this out.” Elena held out a purple dress with lacy straps.
While taking the dress, Eve caught a familiar figure from the corner of her eyes. But when she looked in that direction, no one was standing there. Was she imagining things?
“Also try this out, Madam. And this one. This one too.” Elena handed several clothes to her. “The staff will lead you to a changing area while I pick out more dresses for you.”
Eve nodded and followed the staff who had been accompanying them all this time. And as they walked toward the changing room, a deep gave bore through her back and her body shuddered.
Her eyes darted back, but there was no one. That was weird.
Eve followed the female staff into the changing room and dropped the dresses Elena gave her, before picking up one.
“I’ll leave you alone now, Ma’am. I’ll be right outside in case you need any help.”
After the staff left, Eve was about to strip out of her dress and change into the one in her hands– then she paused and her brows furrowed. What were those muffled voices from outside?
She strained her ears– nothing. It was as if she had imagined the voices. That was strange.
She reached for her zip and pulled it down. And the moment she pushed the dress off her shoulders, the door flung open and a tall figure strode in. “Ahhhhh!”
