The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 19: Not Even She Could Resist Herself
Chapter 21
Some of Eve’s anger had cooled off by the time they got home. After resting for a while, before the evening approached, she set to work on herself.
“Madam, it’s almost time for dinner. Can’t you wait until you’ve eaten?”
“No, Camila. I’m not hungry,” Eve plastered a mask on her face and replied. The lunch she’d eaten hadn’t even finished digesting yet. And she had a lot to do, so she’d better start early.
The maid nodded and left.
After waiting for the mask to dry off, Eve headed into the bathroom. Hours passed by. She shaved, scrubbed, and washed herself again and again.
She put a conditioner in her hair and allowed it to settle for thirty minutes.
“Eve.”
Eve had almost dozed off when a knocking sound came from the door. How long had it been? She frowned.
“What are you still doing in there, Eve?” Ethan’s voice came again.
Eve checked out her hair. It wasn’t done conditioning yet. “Just give me a few minutes, I’ll be out soon,” she called out.
The knocking sound stopped and Eve waited again. After washing off the conditioner, she felt dirty and decided to take another bath.
“Eve!” Ethan resumed knocking.
“Give me five minutes!” Eve yelled, causing the soap to enter her mouth.
She spat it out and gaggled several times before picking up the toothbrush and toothpaste. And while brushing her teeth, she tied her with a towel.
Ethan’s voice came once more and it snapped to her senses that she’d forgotten to scrub her feet. “Just a few more minutes,” she called out.
Ethan’s voice did not come again. And after Eve was all done, she could swear her body was glowing. She watched her reflection in the bathroom mirror, smiling and marveling at her sparkling teeth. Maybe she should brush it one more time.
She unwrapped the towel from her hair and found out that it was still wet. She fastened the straps of her bathrobe after hanging the wet towel on a rack.
When she left the bathroom, she headed to the vanity table and plucked in the hairdryer in a socket.
She applied some cream to her hair after drying it. Then she went ahead to apply her body lotion, followed by a body spray and a roll-on.
When she was done, she went into the closet and unpacked one of the bags they’d come back with earlier from the mall.
Inside the bag was her set of new nightwear. She picked out a lacy nightdress with a few straps and nodded with a proud smile. “Not bad, Elena.” The Stewardess was absolutely good at her job.
After slipping on the nightwear, Eve checked herself out in the large mirror that stood in the closet. She flipped her hair to the side and twirled around a few more times.
“Hehe.” Not even she could resist herself, and she could spend the whole night staring into the mirror. Was Ethan in trouble?
She grinned, shaking her head. She hoped so.
Eve covered her mouth, suppressing a yawn while leaving the closet. She rubbed her eyes to wipe the sleep off, and her eyes landed on the bed.
“Ethan.”
Had he been on the bed all this time? Why didn’t she notice earlier?
Eve crawled onto the bed and took a peek at his face. His eyes were closed and his chest rose up and down evenly. Was he sleeping? He’d better not be.
“Ethan.” Eve shook him. “Argh! Wake up, Ethan. You’ve got to wake up, Damnit!”
But no matter how hard she shook him, the man didn’t budge. Eve wanted to cry. Had she worked so hard for nothing?
“Ethan…”
“What’s it, Eve?” Ethan said in a groggy voice as he struggled to open his eyes.
Eve stopped shaking him and sat up properly. “Wake up.”
“For what?” Ethan closed his eyes and turned his back to her. Then his deep breathing resounded in the room.
“Urgh! Come on, Ethan.” Eve tapped him on the shoulder. “You have to wake up, you must. Otherwise, I’ll—”
“Stop bothering me. Go to sleep.” Ethan’s voice had a warning tone to it. And Eve pursed her lips and grumbled.
“Just open your eyes, Ethan. There’s something I want to show you.”
“Eve.” Ethan turned around, his eyes still closed. He pulled her with one hand, making her lie down. “Be good. Go to sleep.”
Eve remained in his embrace, sighing. How could she go to sleep after all this? Ethan was fast asleep again and she groaned out loud.
“Ethan…” Her fingers traced up to his pajama buttons and she undid each one. “Don’t you wanna have a look?”
Ethan didn’t budge and she traced patterns on his bare chest. “Ethan…”
“Stop it, Eve.” Ethan used both hands to hold her in place, so she couldn’t move. “I had a long day. Let me sleep.”
Eve wriggled but he didn’t release her. “You’re so heartless, Ethan.” She bit her lips and sighed heavily.
After spending a while in his embrace, unable to move, Eve’s eyelids became heavy and she gradually drifted off.
But late in the night, an uncomfortable feeling in her stomach woke her up. Eve opened her eyes and found her arms free. Ethan was no longer holding her.
She shifted on the bed, holding her stomach. She was about to sit up and get down to the bathroom, but a faint glow caught her eyes.
Eve looked up, and on the farther end of the bed, Ethan was leaning against the headboard, holding his mobile phone.
The phone’s screen illuminated his features, and his eyes were narrowed, deeply engrossed in whatever he was doing with his phone.
Now and then, the beeping sound of a notification resounded in the room.
The urge to go to the bathroom instantly left Eve as well as the sleep in her eyes. ‘Very well, Ethan.’ Who was he chatting with in the middle of the night?
And Eve soon got her answers when, after a few minutes, Ethan dropped his phone on the bedside table and entered the bathroom.
The phone’s screen lit up with the notification and Eve shuffled to that side and sneaked a peek at the phone’s screen. The first thing that came into her vision was the sender’s name.
Jessie.
Who was Jessie? Was Ethan cheating on her?
