The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 21: Jessie
Chapter 23
“Jessie, who is that?”
Ethan’s voice sounded from inside the office.
Jessie!? So she was that Jessie. Eve gritted her teeth. Her fingers curled around the food box and she gripped it hard.
“I think you have a guest.” The so-called Jessie looked Eve up and down before replying to Ethan.
“Hey, who are you? And what business do you have with Mr. Anderson to come straight to his office? Have the receptionists grown tired of their jobs?”
Eve’s eyes darkened and her fist shook. ‘I want your life.’ she wanted to reply but managed to control her anger in the end.
She simply pushed past her and stormed into the office.
“Hey, wait! I’m talking to you, where do you think you’re going?” The lady came after her and blocked her path. “I asked you what business do you have with Mr. Anderson?”
“It’s none of your business.” Eve wanted the girl to get out of her sight, otherwise, she would really lose it.
“Y–You.” The lady pointed a finger at her. “You can’t just barge into people’s office and act as if you own the world. Who do you think you are?”
“She’s my wife.” Ethan sat on his swivel chair, watching them.
“Y–Your wife?” The lady blinked rapidly. Instantly, her haughty look transformed into a gentle smile. “I didn’t know you were Mrs. Anderson, please forgive my manners. I am so sorry for trying to stop you. Please forgive me, Sir.”
“You can go, Jessie,” Ethan said and rose to his feet.
“Thank you, Sir.” The lady gave him a smile and sauntered out, her heels clicking against the tiled floor.
“Is there a problem, Eve? What brought you here?”
Eve brought her eyes back to him after glaring at the lady’s retreating figure. “Is that what you’re supposed to ask me, Ethan?”
Ethan frowned before sitting on the couch. “What do you want me to ask you?”
‘Urgh.’ Eve dropped the food box and slumped on the couch, folding her hands across her chest. “Ethan, you…”
“Do you need anything?” Ethan looked confused. “Why are you angry?”
Eve ignored him, fighting to control herself from exploding. She couldn’t promise that if she opened her mouth, thousand of curses wouldn’t spill out.
“You’re acting weird, Eve.” Ethan’s eyes left her and he picked up the food box. “What do you have in here?” He uncovered it and the frown on his face deepened. “You brought me food?”
“It’s not yours!” Eve snatched the box and covered it.
“Evelyn.” Ethan ran a hand through his hair. “What exactly do you want?”
“I want you to tell me who that girl is!” She pointed toward the door. “What is she doing in this place?”
“Jessie?” Ethan’s expression relaxed. “She’s my secretary.”
“Aha! I knew it!” Eve sprang up. “Your secretary! It is always the secretaries. You, Ethan. Am I not good enough for you!?”
“Eve, are you sure you’re alright?” Ethan stood up.
“What? Do I look sick to you!?”
“No, you look out of your mind.”
“Argh! Ethan!” Eve grabbed his collar. “What is going on between you and that girl? And why Jessie and not Jessica?”
“Her name is Jessie. And I told you, she’s my secretary.” Ethan grabbed her wrists with one hand and used the other hand to smoothen the creases on his collar.
“Evelyn.” He gave her a warning look. “I thought you said you’ve turned a new leaf. Did you come here to cause trouble?”
“Let go of me!” She yelled. “And I swear I won’t strangle your neck. Just a kick in the groin will do, Ethan. How dare you cheat on me!”
“You’re crazy.” Ethan pushed her away and she landed on the couch.
“No, you’re the crazy one! Your whole family is crazy! All the people at your company are crazy especially that Jessica!”
“She’s just my secretary, Eve. Tell me, what do you really want?”
“If she is only your secretary, why would you be texting her in the middle of the night? And why is she dressed like this to work? You’re seeing her, right? Is that why you’ve been avoiding me, Ethan? I swear I’m going to break her head. Just watch me!”
Eve took off her shoes and headed to the door but Ethan held her back.
“Don’t you dare make a scene here, Evelyn.”
“Argh! Just leave me alone.” Eve kicked and struggled, but he held her tightly.
“What kind of thoughts are you having in your head, Eve? Why would I cheat with another woman?”
“Because you don’t like me, because you think I’m not attractive enough, because you find me a nuisance! Whatever stupid reason you’re thinking in your head!”
“You’re being a nuisance right now, Eve. Calm down.”
“Calm down my foot! If I don’t destroy that husband snatcher, I’ll never get a rest in my life. Ethan, just let me at her.”
The door creaked open and someone came in. It was none other than the so-called Jessie.
“Mr. Anderson,” she cooed in a silky voice. “Is everything alright?”
“You, little slut!” Eve sent one shoe flying in her direction and it hit the glass wall because the girl was lucky to dodge it on time.
The glass cracked and Ethan grabbed her hand before she could throw the other shoe. “Evelyn! Are you out of your mind!?”
“Just tell me why the hell you were texting her last night!”
“Ah! Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Anderson.” Jessie’s eyes flashed with horror and she held her cheeks. “Please stop fighting because of me. I’m so sorry, Mrs. Anderson.” She went to her knees and begged. “It is all a misunderstanding, there’s nothing between Mr. Anderson and I.”
“Mr. Anderson sent me on a business trip, and I had to make an important report. Due to the difference in time zones, I didn’t know it was the middle of the night here. My flight only landed this morning, I should have waited before texting him. Please don’t misunderstand us, Mrs. Anderson. I promise this will never repeat itself.”
Jessie bawled her eyes out until the makeup on her face washed away. And Eve dropped her shoe and gulped.
Was that what happened? Had she misunderstood Ethan?
Hesitantly, her eyes strayed to Ethan and she shuddered at the icy look on his face.
“You may leave, Jessie,” Ethan said and the secretary scurried up.
“Th–Thank you, Sir. Mrs. Anderson.” She hiccuped while wiping her tears, then left the office.
The girl looked so pitiful that Eve wanted to cry. She’d really messed up this time.
“Hehe. Ethan, Sweetheart. D–Do you have an appetite? I happen to bring delicious food from home.”
“Shut up.”
