Chapter 41: You’re Breaking My Heart

“Ah! Ethan, wait wait!” Eve gasped as Ethan suddenly lifted her and flung her over his shoulder.

“Stop stop stop, Ethan, put me down!” Eve screamed and beat at his back, her heart hammering so hard that it could fly out of her chest.

“This isn’t the proper way to treat your wife! Mr. Anderson! Ethan, put me down!”

But despite Eve’s yells and screams, Ethan did not put her down. He even spanked her several times commanding her to shut up.

He left the servants’ quarters, heading straight into the house, and he took her upstairs.

“Ethan, wait. I’m hungry, please let me eat dinner.”

Ethan strode up the stairs, ignoring her. And instead of stopping at the bedroom, he took her to his study room before putting her down and locking the door.

“Ethan.” Eve gasped and ran to a corner. “Don’t even think about punishing me, I did nothing wrong. I– I didn’t come to the company because I was tired. I spent the whole day learning how to drive.”

“You’re lying.” Ethan stood at the door, glaring at her.

“Come on, Ethan.” Eve wrapped both arms around herself. “I didn’t do anything wrong, why do you look as if you want to kill me? Hey, I ditched the driving lesson, but it was only to do something important.”

“And what is that important thing, Evelyn?”

“Ah! It doesn’t matter. You don’t have to know. The most important thing is, I’m back and I’m alright, Ethan. Now stop acting like a psycho and let me go.”

The anger in Ethan’s eyes increased and he charged forward. In the next second, he had caged her between the wall.

“That important thing is seeing other men, right, Evelyn!?”

Eve’s eyes widened and she shrank against the wall. “H–How did you know?”

“Do you think I’m stupid?”

“No no no, of course not.” Eve waved both hands. “You’re not stupid. You’re the smartest person I’ve ever known, Ethan.”

“Shut up!” Ethan snapped. “Evelyn! Didn’t you promise me you’d let go of your old ways? Tell me, was it all a lie? You found another man that is why you let that insignificant go. And you think you can fool me.”

“Ethan!?” Eve exclaimed. “How could you say such a thing? I thought we were over the talk that I’ve turned a new leaf. We even signed a contract for goodness sake.”

His jaws clenched and he threw daggers at her. And just when Eve thought he was about to continue lashing at her, he left her pinned to the wall and walked to his working desk.

“If you weren’t lying, how can you explain this?” Ethan picked up some photos from the desk and tossed them on the floor.

Eve frowned and stared down at the pictures. She squatted and gathered them in her hands, and in the next second, her pupils expanded.

‘Damnit!’ she really was in trouble.

“E–Ethan.” Eve looked up and gulped. “H–How dare you do this to me? You have people that are following me around, right?”

“Evelyn!” Ethan gave her a warning look.

Eve shut her eyes and bit her lips. “Ethan.” She opened her eyes and put on a smile. “It is not what you’re thinking. What kind of cameraman did such a bad job?”

“You see, this is the man that saved me from being hit by the taxi driver. Have you met, Mr. Hudson? He was present at the party that night. Remember that man that crushed Cole and Mia at the end?”

“I don’t care. What is going on between you two, Evelyn?”

Eve wanted to cry inside. She took another look at the pictures and wished more than anything to get a hold of whoever took them.

“Ethan.” She approached him with the photo. “Please take a good look. Mr. Hudson was just whispering something to me, we weren’t been intimate.”

But from the angle they took the picture, they made it seem like he was kissing her. ‘Argh.’ things even got worse because the man’s hand was on her shoulder.

“The thing is, after saving me from being hit by the car, I promised Mr. Hudson a cup of coffee. That is why we met at the coffee shop.” Eve went on explaining. “I’ve never even seen that man until the night at the party. Believe me, Ethan, we are nothing but strangers.”

And she wasn’t comfortable with telling him about the investigation that the man did on Cole. If she spilled everything, wasn’t Ethan going to rip her apart first before he went ahead and end that stranger?

If even she couldn’t handle the fact that the man had openly expressed his interest in her, how was Ethan going to handle it?

“Ethan, Darling.” Eve tossed the pictures aside and placed both hands on his chest. “In this lifetime and the next, you will be the only man in my heart. How can I ever think of cheating on you? Between you and that Mr. Hudson, who do you think I’d choose if you were both strangers?”

Ethan stiffened, struggling to maintain his glare.

“It is you, of course, my dear husband. Now stop thinking about these insignificant things. And I promise you.” She gave him a serious look. “I promise you that I will never see that Mr. Hudson again.”

“Eve–”

“Ethan, you’re breaking my heart.” Eve sniffed and hugged him. “I could doubt you for having the highest number of employees as females, but I didn’t. If I trust you this much, why can’t you trust me too?”

Ethan’s body loosened up and he nudged her aside. “Keep your words, Evelyn. Never repeat this nonsense.”

“I promise.” Eve’s eyes lit up and her lips broke into a smile. “By the way, how did you get these, Ethan?”

“I have eyes everywhere.”

Eve sighed and nodded in agreement. “Now that you’ve cooled off, Honey. Can we go down for dinner?” She followed him to his desk and asked.

“I’m not hungry,” Ethan answered.

Eve pursed her lips and held his arm, pulling him out of the study room. “Remember our rules, Ethan. You can’t work while you’re home. Now, while I’m being nice, be the obedient husband you’re supposed to be and let’s go down for dinner.”
