The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 42: Come To The Police Station
Chapter 44
Eve opened her eyes the next morning, and her gaze fell on the man who was sleeping at the farther end of the bed. Ethan’s back was to her and he’d pushed down the sheet that she put on him last night.
Eve sighed and reached out with her hand to touch him, but her hand halted mid-air. Ethan was still mad at her, she could feel it radiating from him.
She sat up on the bed and turned on the bedside lamp. Her eyes went to the tiny clock. It was four in the morning.
Eve left the bed and wobbled into the bathroom, yawning and rubbing her eyes. She came out later and got ready for the day.
On leaving the closet, her eyes landed on the bed. Ethan was still fast asleep.
She walked out of the bedroom and headed downstairs to the kitchen.
“Good morning, Madam. You’re awake early.” Elena and the two maids greeted.
Eve covered her mouth to suppress a yawn, nodding to their greetings. “Are you cooking breakfast?”
“We are about to, Madam.”
“Great.” Eve walked forward and stood in front of the stove. “Step aside, girls. I’ll cook breakfast today.”
“You’re going to cook?” The maids as well as Elena stared at her in surprise.
“Madam, please don’t bother. Let us do it,” Elena said. “You’ve been working hard throughout the week. You’re supposed to be resting today. Please go back to sleep, I’ll send one of the girls to get you and the Young Master when breakfast is ready.”
“It’s alright, Elena. I’ll do it.” Eve yawned, shaking her head. “I’d like to cook for Ethan by the way. Aren’t you all curious about my great cooking mastery?”
Elena and the maids shook their heads, giving her guilty looks. They weren’t at all curious.
“Since that’s the case, I’ll leave it to you, Madam.” Elena took off her apron and removed the gloves in her hands. “Dinah, follow me and let’s go take care of other things. Camila, stay back and help Madam out.”
Elena left with one of the maids while Eve took an apron from the rack and wore it.
“What would you like to cook, Madam?” Camila opened the fridge and asked.
“Ethan’s favorite,” Eve answered. “I hope we have all the ingredients.”
“Yes, we do, Madam.” Camila brought some vegetables out of the fridge and settled them on the counter. And she opened the cabinets and took out the spices.
“These much?” Eve’s brows furrowed at the many ingredients.
“The Young Master has many favorite foods. I don’t know which you will prefer to cook, Madam.”
“Oh.” Eve nodded in realization. Ethan had many favorite foods. That meant the more the merrier. “Let’s just cook all of them.”
Camila’s eyes widened as Eve said that. “That will take hours, Madam.”
“It will be worth it, Camila. Now let’s get to work.”
While Eve did her best to take note of the right quantity of each ingredient and not mix them up, Camila cut the vegetables and placed the pots on the stove.
As they worked around the kitchen, the hours flew by like seconds, and the morning light streamed through the kitchen window.
“Madam, that’s not where you put the flour.”
“Madam, allow the vegetables to steam first.”
“Madam, no! That’s too many spices.”
“The oil is about to burn, Madam. Fry the meat fast.”
Eve walked in circles, doing her best to stay oriented. Her stomach grumbled nonstop and her vision was becoming blurry.
“How many dishes are left, Camila?”
“We still have four more dishes to cook.”
Eve used a hankie to wipe away her sweat, then heavy footsteps approached the kitchen.
“Eve, what are you doing in there?”
Eve hurried to the door and blocked it as Ethan was about to step inside.
“Erhm, it’s a surprise, Honey. Your breakfast will be out soon, just be a bit more patient,” she said sweetly.
Ethan’s footsteps receded and Eve hurried to one of the stoves and lowered the heat.
Some hours later, footsteps came again, but before Eve could hurry to the door and block it, someone barged inside.
“Where is that skinny girl? Why are you hiding all day in the kitchen? Don’t you know that this Young Master has arrived—”
Matt stopped talking and his jaw dropped. “Ahhh! Sister-in-law, what are you doing here?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Eve rolled her eyes.
“Hahaha, Is that flower on your face?” Matt pointed at her and laughed. “You should take a look in the mirror, Evelyn. Right now, you look like the funniest clown on earth. Do you even know how to cook?”
“Camila, lock the door and bring me the keys,” Eve instructed the maid who instantly nodded to her command.
“And you.” She pointed at Matt. “Put on an apron right now and help me cut more vegetables. You’re here to serve your punishment anyways.”
Camila brought the keys to her and she dropped them in her apron’s pocket.
“Evelyn, you must be dreaming! You dared order this Young Master to cut some stupid vegetables? That’s it, give me the keys, and this Young Master might consider being merciful.”
“Ethan is just outside at the dining table.” Eve replaced the burning pot on the stove with a new one. “And guess what, a new golf club was just delivered to him yesterday, and oh God, that one is bigger and stronger. I think one strike is enough to break one’s head.”
“Evelyn! You.” Matt pointed at her.
“Give him the vegetables, Camila. And make sure he doesn’t wear the apron upside down.”
“Yes, Madam.” As Camila walked toward Matt, he pointed at her.
“If you touch this Young Master, skinny girl. You’ll eat rocks for food for the rest of your life.”
“If you dare bully her, Matt, I’ll make sure you’ll be the first person Ethan hit with that golf club.”
Matt glared at her and grumbled as Camila placed the vegetables in his front.
Eve couldn’t care about Matt’s mediocre skills, all she wanted right now was to finish cooking soon. ‘Urgh.’ she was screamingly hungry, she could devour every dish they’d cooked so far.
Eve staggered in relief when they were finally done. Camila served the dishes and took them out to the dining table while she washed her hands in the sink.
“Don’t touch it!” She picked up a spatula and hit Matt who was about to taste one of the dishes.
“Ouch! Evelyn, you.” Matt held his wrist. “You should be grateful that this Young Master is interested in tasting your food. Bah! You’ll have it coming, Evelyn!”
Matt tossed his apron aside and stormed out of the kitchen.
When Eve arrived at the dining table, the food was already served. Ethan sat on the head chair while Matt sat on the chair beside him.
When he looked up, she winced from the look in his eyes. They were slightly red, probably from hunger, or maybe because he was still mad at her.
“Honey, Sweatheart, Ethan. S–Since the food is ready, why don’t we start eating?” She lowered onto the chair beside him and carefully uncovered his food.
Ethan stared down at the food, frowning. “What is this?”
“Your favorite.” Eve smiled. “Now now eat. I know you’re hungry.”
Ethan picked up the utensil and his fingers trembled a bit. He hesitated before tasting the food…
Eve held her breath and Matt looked back and forth between them, his eyes shining with curiosity.
“Very bad.” Ethan spat it out and glared at her. “Is this what you call food, Eve?”
“Hahahaha.” Matt slapped the desk and rolled over. “I knew it! Your food tastes so bad, Sister-in-law, even Big Bro can’t stand it. Tsk tsk tsk, I wonder what you can do well apart from causing trouble around.”
Eve glared at both brothers and pursed her lips. She picked up her spoon and tasted the food. Apart from being a little bit bland, there was nothing wrong with it.
“Ethan, y–you.”
“Finish it up, both of you.” Ethan pushed his chair back and stood up. “I don’t want to see even a crumb left.”
“Argh! Big Bro, why at you punishing me with her? She cooked it so she should take the punishment. Besides, this Young Master has already taken a healthy breakfast back at the mansion.”
“Say another word, and I’ll break your bones.” Ethan gave him a warning look and walked away.
‘Damn you! Ethan!’ Eve sniffed her nonexistent tears and ate slowly.
“This is your fault, Sister-in-law. What made you think you could cook for my Big Bro?” Matt grumbled non-stop as he forced the food down his throat.
They’d almost finished up half of the dishes when Ethan returned with a ringing phone in his hand.
Eve’s eyes lit up and she shot to her feet. “Your food is still warm, Ethan. I knew you wouldn’t keep away–”
“It’s your Dad.” Ethan pushed the phone into her hand. “Answer it.”
Eve stared at him and sighed heavily. Then she answered the call and placed it on her ear. “I’ve looked into the matter, Evelyn. Can you come to the police station immediately? You have to be fast.”
Eve put down the phone, frowning.
“What did you do this time, Evelyn!?” She flinched as Ethan’s voice thundered in her ears.
