The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 50: The Universe Is Trying To Pass Us A Message
Chapter 52
Eve walked out of the Manager’s office and headed to the elevator. She entered the elevator and leaned against the wall then blew out a sigh.
The elevator dinged open moments later. She stepped out and located a trashcan nearby then tossed the document in it.
Eve dusted her hands and headed toward Ethan’s office.
“Mrs. Anderson, come and have a look at this piece of jewelry. They just arrived last night, you’ll be the first person to try it on.”
Eve stopped at the employees’ area to check out the jewelry.
“I am sure the president will be thrilled to see this on you. I’ll sell it to you at a discounted price, would you buy it?”
“How much is it?” Eve put the ring on her finger and put on the necklace while the female employee held a mirror in front of her.
“It is five hundred, Mrs. Anderson, just a half million.”
“Not bad, Mrs. Anderson.”
“You look great!”
“It’s like this necklace was made just for you.”
“Buy it, Mrs. Anderson. You look like an angel with it.”
The other employees praised loudly and Eve chortled. She reached for her pocket and brought out a credit card.
“Wow, you’re so generous, Mrs. Anderson.” The employee took the card from her and swiped it. “Tomorrow, I’ll bring a new collection of shoes. I hope you can take a look at them.”
“Sure.” Eve took back her card and admired the necklace once more. “Before I forget.” She looked up at the other employees and said, “Can you guys please stop calling me Mrs. Anderson? After all, we’re colleagues.”
“What would you like us to call you instead, Mrs. Anderson?”
“Erhm.” Eve tapped her chin and smiled. “Just call me Mimi. I like that nickname.”
“As you wish, Mrs. Anderson– Oh, I mean Mimi.”
Eve left the employees’ area and walked into Ethan’s office.
“What took you so long?” Ethan sat across his desk, frowning. “Evelyn, I told you to stop distracting my employees.”
“Aren’t I also your employee, Honey.” Eve trotted forward and held his arm. “Check this out, they’re sparkly, right? Do I look great?” She showed him the ring and necklace.
Ethan’s frown deepened.
He took the necklace between his fingers and looked at it closely. “They’re cheap.”
“How can you call them cheap?” Eve slapped his hand away and held the necklace. “I spent a half million on them for speaking out loud.”
“No wonder they’re fake.” Ethan stood up.
“Evelyn, where is the document?” His eyes fell on her hands.
“Oh, about that.” Eve pursed her lips and played with the necklace. “Will you believe what I’m about to say, Ethan?”
“Spill it!” Ethan’s expression was turning dark.
“I can’t find the document.” Eve widened her eyes and gestured with her hands. “Puff! It disappeared.”
“Evelyn! You.” Ethan grabbed her arm. “What did you do with the document? Didn’t you take it to the manager?”
“It’s just some boring document. Let it go, Ethan.” Eve wriggled her arm free and walked away. “Maybe you can ask for a new one.”
“Do that soon, Evelyn. Otherwise, I’ll fire you.”
“That’s so cruel.” Eve sat on the couch and smoothened her skirt. “You can’t fire me because of a simple document. Don’t worry, Ethan, I’ll make it up to you.”
Eve was about to lie down when out of nowhere, Ethan reached her side and towered in front of her.
“Don’t even think about lazing around.” He pulled her up. “We’re going on a date.”
“Really?” Eve’s eyes lit up and her heart fluttered. “I knew it, Ethan. I always knew you have a romantic side in you. Where are you taking me? A high-end hotel? A picnic? The amusement park?”
Ethan picked up her handbag and wore it on her neck. “What childish things are you talking about? Have you forgotten we have a client to meet? We’re going on a business date, Evelyn.”
Eve winced and trudged after him out of the office. She removed the bag from her neck then wore it properly.
Childish things. She wasn’t wrong. Even mountains would be easier to move compared to this man.
They arrived at a high-end hotel after a long ride away from the company. Inside the hotel was a huge restaurant. And after receiving them, the staff led them into a private room.
“Mr. Anderson, you are finally here.” An old man sat across the large table filled with dishes.
“It is a pleasure to meet you again, Mr. Stone. I apologize for keeping you waiting.”
“No problem at all. No problem.” The old man laughed and shook hands with Ethan. “May I know the beautiful lady with you here? She doesn’t look like that girl– what is her name… Jessie. Right, Jessie.”
“This is my–”
“I am his wife, Mr. Stone.” Eve extended her hand for a handshake. “It is a pleasure to meet you.”
“I was going to say that,” Ethan whispered in her ear.
“I don’t believe you,” Eve murmured.
“Oh, his wife!” The old man nodded. “It’s no wonder I found you familiar, Mrs. Anderson. You were commendable that night at the party. Every old man present would wish you were part of his family.”
“Mr. Stone doesn’t happen to have a grandson, right?” Eve sat across the old man, beside Ethan.
“If I had a grandson, would you do me the honor, Mrs. Anderson?”
“You’re a sweet old man, Mr. Stone. I don’t see why not,” Eve said and they both laughed, but Ethan was not even smiling.
“I like your wife’s sense of humor, Mr. Anderson. She’s a good girl.”
“Yes, she is good.” Ethan nodded. “Evelyn.” He glanced at Eve and said, “Mr. Stone and I have very important matters to discuss. Now be the good girl you are and excuse us for a few minutes.”
“Whatever you say, Honey.” Eve forced a sweet smile and stood up, grumbling inside.
“See you later, Mr. Stone. It’s a regret that you have no Grandson.” She waved at the old man before turning around and walking out.
‘Urgh.’ Eve groaned as she walked to God knew where. That grumpy Ethan. He wouldn’t even take a simple joke. As his secretary, wasn’t she supposed to be present at his business meetings?
She walked down a long hallway and came to a stop at the narrow end. Looking to her left, Eve sighted a small door with some stairs.
She turned in that corner and followed the stairs up to where she arrived at an enormous rooftop.
Awesome! She could do with some fresh air.
Eve walked toward the railing and stared down at the bustling city below, her hair fluttering with the wind.
“Don’t you think the universe is trying to pass us a message, Eve?”
A male voice reached her ears and she turned around.
“It seems our hearts have become one already. Otherwise, this coincidence is too good to be true.”
“You.”
