Chapter 51: Her Token Of Affection

“When the heart longs for its love, the eyes see it. The heart beats with anticipation but the mind says it’s a lie. The eyes see it again and the heart keeps pounding. The mind finally gives in and says it is the truth.”

“W–What are you doing here, Mr. Hudson?” Eve stepped aside as the man approached her.

“And when the mind says it’s the truth, things become clear. Inside and out, we are one. My heart, soul, and body, belong to no one but you.”

“Mr. Hudson, has anyone ever told you you’re a bad poet? Stop following me now, or you won’t like it.”

“I am no poet, Eve.” Wade stopped walking. “These are only words from my heart.”

“Mr. Hudson.” Eve’s fists clenched by her sides and she took in a deep breath. “I have told you to stop stalking me, I even pleaded with you to leave me alone. Why are you so stubborn, or do you think my threats are groundless?”

“When it touches the heart, it is genuine. My eyes can see nothing else but your face. My ears can hear nothing else but your name. When I close my eyes, I see your smile. And the stars make a perfect constellation of your eyes at night.”

Wade stepped forward and stood in front of her. “Why don’t you listen to my heart already, Eve? I am sure not even Mr. Anderson can offer you such sweet words.”

“Yuck.” Eve covered her nose and coughed. “What kind of perfume is that, Mr. Hudson? Are you a woman or what?”

“It is the ultimate cologne.” Wade grinned. “I’m glad you found it mesmerizing.”

“Mesmerizing my foot!” Eve spat out. “Your perfume is disturbing, and so is your choice of words. Let me advise you, Mr. Hudson. Stop putting on this much perfume, otherwise, someday you’ll get arrested.”

“Ouch!” Wade held the side of his chest and laughed. “That’s a brutal truth, Eve. But I should let you know that there are some things you can’t change in your lover, despite the strong bond between us.”

“Seriously, watch how you speak, Mr. Hudson. And stop calling me Eve. It is only for the dears and nears.”

“Am I not your dear and near, Eve?” Wade put on a confused look. “In fact, I’m more than that. Our hearts are one and we share the same soul. It is only right for you to refer to me as your soulmate.”

“I’m warning you for the last time.” Eve pointed a finger at him, walking back. “No matter what you do or say, even if you become a great master of poetry, I will only have eyes for my husband. So stop this nonsense while I’m still calm.”

“My dear Eve.” Wade took another step forward. “I’m not someone to easily give up if I set my eyes on something. I will treat you better than Mr. Anderson, and you know that. If it is wealth, I have plenty. If it is looks, I’m not lacking. I can even compete with your husband when it comes to that. Why don’t you give me your heart and see?”

“Unless you’re going to skin me alive and rip it out! Mr. Hudson, stay away from me– Ah!” Eve’s back hit the railing and she lost her footing.

She almost fell off the rooftop, but Wade held her hand and pulled her back, making her bump into him.

“And when you fall, I’ll always catch you. And if you fall for me, I’ll bring you the stars and take you to the galaxies.”

“Let go of me!” Eve wriggled her hands free and staggered back, her heart thumping wildly. “M–Mr. Hudson, please respect yourself. You won’t like it if I show you my bad side.”

“You mean your feisty side?” Wade caged her between the wall, just beside the door. “We are alone on this rooftop, Eve. I can’t wait for you to show it to me.”

“Y–You.” Eve’s eyes darted everywhere but him. “Let me go, Mr. Hudson.”

“How about you give me a kiss before I do that? I want a passionate one.”

“Mr. Hudson–”

“Just one kiss.”

Eve’s fists shook. And conjuring up her strength, she used both hands to push his hard frame away.

“Pervert!” Her palm connected with the side of his face. “If I ever see you again, Mr. Hudson, I swear you’ll regret ever stalking me.”

Wade rubbed his cheek and smiled. “Now you even make me want you more. I wasn’t wrong, Eve. You possess all the qualities I like in a woman.”

Eve took in a deep breath, struggling to keep her anger in check.

“Mr. Hudson, I hope this is our last encounter. And I wish you hope the same. It is for your well-being.”

She turned around and left the door, walking downstairs. That idiot! He seemed to be even worse than she expected!

Eve was a hundred percent sure that he had been stalking her.

“Evelyn, where did you run off to?” She bumped into Ethan walking out of the private room.

“E–Ethan, Honey… A–Are you done with the meeting?”

“Many minutes ago.”

“W–Where is M–Mr. Stone.” Eve cleared her throat. “Has he left?”

“Yes.” Ethan glared at her. “Where have you been, Eve?”

“Fresh air. I was receiving fresh air on the rooftop.” Her lips spread into a sweet smile. “Ethan, Honey. S–Since you’re done with the meeting, why don’t we leave here immediately?”

Ethan nodded and she walked ahead of him while trying hard to control her heartbeat.

“Eve.” Suddenly, Ethan’s voice came from behind her. “Wait up.”

Eve stopped walking at his command and she slowly turned around. “W–What are you doing?” She took a step back as he stepped forward.

Ethan continued moving forward until her back was against the wall. “N–Not here, Ethan. There are other people.”

Ignoring her, Ethan leaned forward until his face was almost buried in her neck. Then he sniffed her and he straightened up. His expression was now as dark as the night.

“Why do you smell different?”

Damnit! Eve stopped breathing for a few seconds. “N–Nothing. I just bought a new perfume.” She reached for the perfume in her handbag and brought it out. “It smells so good, I decided to put it again.”

“It smells bad.” Ethan scrunched up his nose and continued walking.

Of course, it smelled bad. That stupid Wade had almost choked her with his perfume. Too bad, the stupid smell lingered on her dress.

Before Eve could return the perfume to her bag, her phone rang and Ethan stopped walking.

“Who is it?” Ethan snatched the phone before she could properly scrutinize the number.

“Ah, give it back.” He shut her up with a glare and received it.

“My darling Eve. You didn’t even say goodbye, were you that scared of your husband seeing us together?” Wade’s voice came from the other end. “You left me alone on the rooftop, now I feel lonely.”

“Evelyn!” Ethan hung up and glared at her.

“Ah! He’s lying, don’t listen to him, Ethan. Yes, Mr. Hudson was on the rooftop, but we fought before I came down here. I swear I almost broke his head.”

How the hell did he even call her? Eve was sure she had blocked his number.

Ethan breezed past her and headed down the hallway toward the rooftop. And Eve gasped and hurried after him.

She staggered in relief when they found the area empty.

“You see, he ran off, Ethan. Don’t believe the things he said—”

But before she could speak further, her phone which was still in Ethan’s hand rang again and he answered it.

“If you dare speak with my wife again–”

“I thought the competition is fair, Mr. Anderson.” Wade’s voice was relaxed. “Anyways, let Eve know that I appreciate her token of affection. I will keep the necklace close to my heart… Forever.”

Eve’s eyes widened and her lips parted. She touched her neck– nothing.

Ethan’s glare intensified and he hung up. “Evelyn!”
