The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 56: Feeling Humiliated
Chapter 58
“E–Ethan.” Eve’s heart literally jumped out of her chest. Her eyes flew wide and her body trembled. “H–Honey, y–you’re still home. W–Why didn’t you—”
“Evelyn!” Ethan gripped her arms hard. “Where the hell are you coming from?”
Eve struggled fruitlessly, her chest heaving up and down erratically. “S–Stop it, Ethan. I can explain.”
“Explain what!?” The man pushed her aside and she landed on the floor.
“Ahhh! My waist! Ethan, Are you crazy!” Eve scrambled back until her back hit the wall. “I told you I’d explain, now stop acting like a maniac.”
Ethan glared down at her, his fists clenched and his eyes red.
“H–Honey.” Eve stood up and held his arm. “Please don’t be mad at me, you can’t believe what I went through yesterday. I’m at fault for not returning home or picking up your calls, but I have an explanation for all that. I really suffered a lot.”
“You suffered?” Ethan pushed her away. “More like you were having a good time, Eve.”
“Ah! It’s not like that.”
“Then how can you explain this?” He grabbed his phone and showed her a screen. “Evelyn, you really think I’m a fool, right?”
Eve’s mouth hung open and she blinked rapidly at the screen. Inside the phone was a photo of her at the bar. And the second photo was of her being carried into a car by Wade.
“Th–This—”
“You spent the night with him, right?” Ethan slowly removed his belt, his voice sounded like a ferocious growl.
“N–No, Y–Yes. Please, Ethan.” Eve shifted away and waved both hands. “That’s what I was about to explain. Nothing happened between me and Mr. Hudson, please believe me.”
“Yes or no?” Ethan grabbed her legs.
“Y–Yes.” Eve nodded fearfully. “Ethan, please don’t do anything to me. I’m– I’m still feeling weak, I swear I can pass out.”
“But it seems to me you’re full of energy, Evelyn!”
“No, I’m not.” Eve wrapped both arms around herself. “Don’t touch me, Ethan. You know how much I care about my precious uterus.”
“Who said I was going to touch you?” Ethan used the belt to bind her legs. “I’d have to die first.”
“Huh?”
“You’re disgusting as it is, Evelyn. You dare cheat with another man behind my back?”
“Ethan, stop saying mean words.” Eve sniffed back her tears but they were already rolling down. “I told you nothing happened between me and Mr. Hudson. You know how much I hate that man.”
“I don’t believe you. I’d have to confirm it myself.” Ethan ripped the bedsheet and tied her hands with it.
“W–What are you going to do?” Eve continued struggling, but the belt was too tight and she couldn’t free her hands.
“I’ll have you tested,” Ethan replied. “If you turn out to be lying, I won’t hesitate to end that man, Evelyn.”
Tested? Eve’s heart dropped. “D–Don’t do that to me, Ethan. That’s humiliating. Don’t you trust me?”
“I don’t.” Ethan turned around and left the room, slamming the door behind him.
“Argh! Ethan, come back.” Eve screamed. “Come back and untie me, Ethan. Leave me alone!”
Minutes turned into hours, Ethan didn’t return.
Eve sat bound on the bed, staring into the darkness. Her tears had long dried and the hunger in her stomach was nothing compared to the sudden grief compounding her heart.
Soft knocks came from the door and Elena walked in.
“What did you do this time, Madam?” She sat on the bed and whispered. “The Young Master was so furious last night. He said you didn’t come to the company. And, Madam, you also didn’t return home.”
“Elena, please untie me.” Eve put her hand forward.
“I’m so sorry, Madam,” Elena whispered again, staring at her in guilt. “If I untie you, the Young Master will punish me too.”
“Nothing happened between me and Mr. Hudson. Why can’t Ethan believe me.”
“Ah. It is that Mr. Hudson again, Madam.”
Eve sniffled and slowly shook her head. “I don’t want to get tested, Elena. Ethan is about to humiliate me.”
“Madam.” Elena rubbed her shoulders. “I’m sorry I can’t help you.”
“But, Elena—”
“It’s okay, Eve. If that’s the only way he wants to get his answers, just toughen up and bear with it.”
“Even you believe me, Elena. Why can’t he?”
Elena sighed and stood up. “Considering your past relationship with the Young Master, I think he’s still wary of you.”
“But I’ve been trying hard.” Eve sniffed again. Hadn’t she? She’d been trying hard to prove her loyalty.
“Don’t be sad, Okay? Just let him get his answers and let it go.”
Eve wasn’t only sad. Her heart was breaking inside. Had she not been trying hard enough?
Elena sneaked out of the room and carefully closed the door, and Eve stared up at the ceiling.
Her stomach grumbled nonstop, and not long after, Ethan walked into the room with a lady in a white lab coat following him.
“I want accurate results,” he commanded the lady before glaring at Eve and walking out.
The lady stepped forward. She dropped her kit on the bedside table then lifted Eve’s dress.
“Hey, careful.”
Ignoring her protests, the lady simply carried on with her job, treating her roughly.
When she was done, she took off her hand gloves and stood up. Then she untied Eve and sighed heavily before leaving the room.
Eve glared at the door. She wiped her tears furiously before entering the bathroom and washing up.
Her stomach wouldn’t stop grumbling, and she slipped on one of her oversized t-shirts before leaving the room.
On her way downstairs, her eyes fell on Ethan and the lady discussing in the living room.
“Mr. Anderson, I did a thorough check on your wife. There is no single sign that she was touched. Be rest assured, Mrs. Anderson is innocent.”
Eve’s fingers tightened around the railing. Ethan’s gaze traveled up the stairs, and their eyes met.
