The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 58: A Symbol Of His Heart
Chapter 60
“Grandpa!” Eve hurried inside the room and knelt on the bedside. “What happened to you, Grandpa? Are you sick? When did you fall sick? Grandpa, is it serious?”
“You, this silly girl. Which question do you want me to answer first?” Her grandfather chuckled. “This Old Man is as fit as a horse.”
“Since when did you fall sick, Grandpa?” Eve held his hand.
“Young Miss, he is suffering from high blood pressure. Be rest assured, compared to last week, your grandfather is recovering well,” her grandfather’s caregiver answered.
Eve shook her head and sighed. “Grandpa, why didn’t you tell me you were sick during the phone call?” She looked toward the Old Man and murmured.
“It is just a minor illness, I don’t see why I should bother you with it.” The old man patted her head.
“But Grandpa—”
“Actually, Young Miss, not a day goes by without your grandfather speaking of you. He longs so much to see you. This, I think, is part of the reason why he fell sick.”
“Really, Grandpa?” Eve’s heart twisted in guilt.
“Don’t listen to him.” Her grandfather shook his head then glared at the caregiver. “Mind your business, Little Boy. Don’t say things that will make my granddaughter unhappy.”
Eve’s eyes clouded immediately and she sniffed.
“You can’t hide something as important as an illness, Grandpa. I know you care very much about me. It is my fault for not visiting you for a long time.”
Thinking about it now, even her grandfather lost his life because of her reckless actions in her past life. As long as she saved her marriage, things would not turn out like before.
But that stupid Ethan was too hard to deal with. He was still skeptical of her.
“You see what you have done, Little Boy.” Her grandfather glared more at his caregiver. “You have made my granddaughter cry.”
“Young Miss, please stop crying. I didn’t mean to make you sad.”
“Why are you crying, Evelyn? It is not like I’m going to die. This Old Man still has many years ahead of him.”
Eve wiped her tears and looked up.
“You’re not a crybaby, stop acting like one.” Her grandfather patted her hair. “If it wasn’t for this boy that insisted, you wouldn’t have seen me on the bed. I have recovered already.”
“Take care of yourself, Grandpa. Next time, even if it’s a headache, can you please let me know?”
“You know how strong I am. Even a headache is afraid to come my way. However, this illness took me off guard, but next time, it won’t repeat!” Her grandfather joked and Eve laughed and wiped her tears.
“By the way, where is that boy, your husband? Why didn’t you come with him?” Her grandfather asked.
Eve stood up and sat on the bedside. “Forget about Ethan, Grandpa. Aren’t you happy to see me?”
“Of course, I’m over the moon.” The old man laughed. “But your father told me something some days ago. Tell me, Evelyn, is he treating you well?” He narrowed his eyes and asked.
“Uhuh.” Eve nodded. “Ethan treats me so well, Grandpa. Haven’t I told you before?”
“Yes, you have said it,” her grandfather agreed. “Now go and have some rest, I know it was a long ride here. I also feel sleepy, this boy must have put something in my drip.”
“O–Okay.” Eve rose to her feet and sighed. “Take care, Grandpa. I’ll see you later.” She walked out of the room and headed down the hallway.
She rounded a corner toward her room which was on the farther end of the other wing, and the sound of footsteps coming in her direction made her stop walking.
“Mum,” Eve greeted the woman whose eyes were on her phone.
Her mother halted and gave her a furtive glance. Then she placed the phone on her ear and walked past her.
Eve’s eyes followed her back. She breathed in deeply before proceeding to her room.
Everything was intact, the way she’d left them several months ago. Even her favorite backpack sat in the same position she’d left it.
Eve sat on her bed and picked up the worn-out backpack. After passing out in the forest that night while saving Cole, she regained consciousness the next morning to find only this backpack lying beside her.
She’d carried the backpack with her, and when Cole appeared in the province and she gave it to him, he didn’t appear to want anything to do with it anymore. In the end, he told her to keep it, and Eve held it close to her heart.
The backpack was among the few things she’d brought here to the city with her.
But now…
What use was this backpack when she’d known of Cole’s real intentions? If she hadn’t saved him that night, would things have happened differently?
Would her past life be saved, and would she not have to go through a second life? The answer was obvious.
The more she delved into this life, the more complicated it became. Ethan was more ruthless, and that Wade just had to pop out of nowhere.
Thinking of the devil, Eve’s phone started ringing and she retrieved it from her bag. A strange number flashed on the screen and when she answered it, his voice came from the other end.
“Eve, my love. It has only been a day since we last saw each other, but it feels like ages already. When can I see you again?”
“Mr. Hudson—”
“While you think about me, can you take good care of the flower? It is a symbol of my heart.”
“Huh?” Eve removed the phone from her ear and frowned. What flower?
The phone beeped three times. That idiot had hung up. Eve gritted her teeth and tossed her phone on the bed.
She stood up to walk into the bathroom, then a knock came from the door.
“Young Miss, this is for you.”
Eve opened the door and a young maid walked in with a flower bouquet. “Someone just delivered it in your name.”
Eve’s hands shook and she took the flowers. Wade. How did he know she was here?
Her phone rang again and she picked it up as the maid left. “Mr. Hudson, what is the meaning of this? Who said I needed your flowers? I swear if you don’t stop this stupidity, I’ll hand you to the authorities!”
“Eve, it’s me.” Ethan’s voice came from the other end and she stilled.
