The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 59: Ethan’s Weakness
Chapter 61
Eve removed the phone from her ear and stared at the contact display name.
“Eve.” Ethan’s voice came again.
Eve hung up then threw the phone on her bed and walked into the bathroom. She removed her makeup then washed her face.
Her phone rang again when she left the bathroom, and she put it on silent and lay on the bed, her eyelids getting heavy.
Eve didn’t know when she dozed off until high-pitched voices woke her up. She fluttered her eyes open, and two figures hovered over her.
“Big Sis!”
“Is this really you? Am I seeing wrong?”
The twins’ faces came into her vision and Eve rubbed her eyes, sitting up.
“It is really you, Big Sis!” Cassie held her shoulders and shook her.
“When did you come? Are you together with brother-in-law?” Carla asked.
Eve covered her mouth to stifle a yawn, and she slowly shook her head. “I missed you so much, Girls.” She hugged them both. “I came since morning, where have you been?”
“We went to a friend’s birthday party with Dad,” Cassie answered her. “You look more beautiful than before, Big Sis.”
“You’re also glowing.” Carla nodded. “Where is brother-in-law?”
“Ethan?” Eve stifled another yawn and lay back on the bed. “He’s not here. Girls, what time is it?”
“It’s almost dinner time,” one of the girls answered.
“Really?” Eve sat up on the bed and rubbed the sleep off her eyes. Did that mean she skipped lunch?
“Let’s go down, Big Sis.”
“Have you seen Mum? Dad will be thrilled to see you.”
The girls pulled her down the bed and Eve slipped her legs in her sleepers. She followed them out of the room while they spoke nonstop about the things that happened at the party.
“Grandpa!” Eve’s eyes brightened up as she sighted the Old Man sitting on the head chair at the dining table. “You’re up already?”
“I told you this Old Man is as fit as a horse.” Her grandfather laughed. “The drip has long finished. When I came to your room, you were fast asleep.”
“Oh.” Eve nodded with a smile then hugged her father.
“You finally decided to visit us, Evelyn.” Her father patted her back. “I was a bit mad at you that you were neglecting us.”
“I’m so sorry, Dad. It’s my fault.” Eve pulled away. “I missed you guys too. Don’t worry, I’ll visit often from now on.”
“Don’t go back on your words.” Her father smiled then sat on the chair beside her grandfather.
While the twins took their seats close to each other, Eve sat on the chair beside her mother.
The maids served their food and Eve picked up a knife and a fork.
“Big Sis, is brother-in-law coming to pick you up?”
“Today’s the weekend, why didn’t you come with him, Big Sis?”
Eve stopped eating and looked up. “E–Ethan is busy… I think I’ll—”
“You looked so good together that night, Big Sis.”
“When we went to school the next day, our friends present at the party talked about how you and brother-in-law captivated everyone with your dancing.”
“They said you’re a match made in heaven.”
“Cassie, Carla.” Their mother looked up. “Is this the normal way to behave while eating?”
The girls shut their mouths and looked down.
“Now, eat your food.” The woman poured more food into their plates. “And stop making noise.”
Eve lowered her head and ate in silence. When they were done eating, the maids appeared to put the plates away, and she stood up to head upstairs.
“Evelyn, it’s nighttime already. Aren’t you going home?” Her grandfather’s voice stopped her.
“Yes, Eve.” Her father’s brows furrowed. “Won’t your husband come to pick you up?”
“Erhm, No.” Eve smiled and walked to her grandfather. “I want to spend some time with you guys. After all, I missed all of you.”
“That is so thoughtful of you, Evelyn.”
“Awesome! Big Sis, that means we can spend some time together.” The twins cheered.
Eve nodded and she walked up the stairs after bidding them goodnight. She came into the room and found her phone ringing.
Seeing the contact display name, Eve hesitated before answering the phone. “Aren’t you coming home, Eve?” Ethan’s voice came.
Eve answered, “No.”
She was about to drop the phone when his voice came again.
“Evelyn, what is wrong with you?”
“Grandpa is sick, I won’t come home,” Eve said and hung up.
She was about to put the phone away when the screen lit up with an alert message notification. Her grip tightened around the phone and she tossed it on the bed.
After taking another bath, Eve walked into the closet and put on her pajamas. She sat on the bed while tying her hair into a ponytail, and her eyes went to her phone. It was ringing again.
Eve sighed and picked it up.
“Madam.” Elena’s voice came from the other end. “Why didn’t you come back home? Are you still mad at the Young Master?”
“Ethan has gone too far, Elena. I just want to be left alone,” Eve mumbled.
“You can’t keep on being mad at him, Madam. The more you ignore him, things might get worse.”
“Elena, are you taking his side?”
“No, absolutely not, Madam,” Elena said sharply. “But, Eve. You can’t go on like this. Can you believe he was mad all day?”
“Then he can rain down his anger on himself,” Eve grumbled. “It’s not my fault that he’s temperamental.”
“Eve.” Elena sighed. “Please let things go already. In the past when you fought with the Young Master all day, had he ever been hard on you? I think he’s just not comfortable with this Mr. Hudson. It’s not that he didn’t trust you, maybe he did that out of jealousy.”
“Ethan didn’t regret what he did.” Eve shook her head. That heartless man even told her mean words. The only thing he did was send her his damned money. Who said she wanted money?
“Eve, if only I can do something to wipe off your gloom. But that is the Young Master’s job. Unfortunately, you aren’t giving him the chance.”
“Ethan will never do such a thing.”
“Then what is it that you want?” Elena asked. “Tell me whatever it is, and if it’s in my power, I’ll do it to make you happy.”
“Really, Elena?” Eve frowned.
“Yes, Madam.”
Eve stared up at the ceiling and tapped her chin. “Then can you tell me what Ethan’s weakness is? I’ll only get back at him, and we’ll be even.”
“The Young Master’s weakness?” Elena sounded unsure. “Erm, Madam. Apart from being allergic to extremely cold weather, I don’t know of the Young Master’s any other weakness.”
