The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 62: I Believe You
Chapter 64
Eve got ready for the day and after breakfast, bid her grandfather goodbye.
“It’s a good thing that you have a job. I hope your Boss is treating you well.”
“Ethan is my Boss, so normally, he must treat me well, Grandpa.”
Eve left the house and entered the car. The driver was already waiting for her. They set out for the company and she brought out her phone then glanced at the window.
When she arrived, not many employees have come. On her way to the elevator, her phone rang and she answered it.
“Hey, Mira.” Amanda’s voice came. “Today’s meeting is crucial, you must be present on time.”
“Hi, Amanda, sure. I’ll come as soon as I can.” After the call ended, Eve dropped the phone in her bag and entered the elevator.
She came out moments later… The president’s area was empty.
Sighing in relief, she sat on the cubicle nearest to the office and drew open the drawers. Empty. Jessie didn’t leave even a pen behind.
Eve rolled her eyes and relaxed back on the swivel chair and she covered her mouth to suppress a yawn.
Her eyelids grew heavy and she rested her head on the desk, supporting it with both arms before sleep slowly overtook her.
“Eve!”
Someone slapped the desk and Eve sprang to her feet. She rubbed her eyes and yawned. In her blurry vision, Ethan stood in front of her, frowning.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’ve come to work.” Eve’s vision cleared and she put on a blank look. “Is there something you need, Sir?”
Ethan’s frown deepened. “Evelyn, you–”
“Since you don’t seem to need anything, can you please let me have some alone time? I’d sincerely appreciate that.” Eve forced a smile and sat down. She lay her head on the desk before closing her eyes, and moments later, Ethan’s footsteps faded away.
“Hey, Mimi. That’s so cool.” One of the employees approached her and Eve opened her eyes. “Did you see the look on the president’s face? You’re not perhaps fighting with your husband.”
Eve sat properly, leaning her back against the swivel chair. “Of course not. Even though I’m Mr. Anderson’s wife, there’s a vast difference between home and work. Besides, as his secretary, this should be my post.”
“So all this is part of acting like a normal employee?” Anna sat on her desk, facing her.
“Uhuh.” Eve let out a dry cough and nodded.
“You’re so enterprising, Mimi. I guess the president distracts you when you’re in his office.”
“You know men.” Eve laughed, suppressing another yawn.
“Didn’t you sleep well last night, Mimi? Your eyes are huge with eyebags.” Anna pointed out. “Are you sure you’re alright?”
“Yeah. I just need to sleep more, Anna.”
“Oh, I’ll leave you alone then. Bye, Mimi.”
“Bye.” Eve yawned and closed her eyes. The sleep descended with a huge force. She was sleeping deeply, oblivious to her surroundings, when the intercom on the desk buzzed loudly.
‘Urgh.’ Eve groaned and lifted her head. She held her suddenly pounding forehead and slapped the device.
The intercom stopped ringing and she rested her head on the desk once more. And this time, it was her phone’s ringtone that woke her up.
Eve sat properly, groaning again and she reached for her bag and brought out the phone. On answering it, Ethan’s voice came from the other end.
“In my office, now.”
Eve pursed her lips and hung up. She put the phone back into her bag then rose to her feet and smoothened her skirt.
Taking in a deep breath, she headed to the office and came face to face with an empty chair.
Eve proceeded inside the office, her eyes wandering around. Then out of nowhere, the door to the private suite slid open and Ethan grabbed her arm then pulled her inside.
“Ah! What are you doing?” Eve’s heart pounded as he blocked the doorway. “Let me go, Ethan. This is a workplace and– Ethan.” He stepped forward and she kept stepping back until the back of her legs hit the bed.
Eve plopped down on the bed and she grabbed the pillow then used it to cover herself. “Ethan, let me go.”
“Why are you avoiding me?” Ethan towered in front of her.
“Just leave me alone.” Eve shifted to a corner and stood up.
“Evelyn!” Ethan grabbed her hand. “I know you’re doing this on purpose. If you’re still unhappy, didn’t you see the alert messages?”
“Let go of me!” Eve snatched her hands free. “So what if you send me money? Will it compensate for the emotional damage?”
“But you put it yourself in the contract.”
“That shouldn’t give you the freedom to play with my emotions!” Eve screamed and pushed him away. “Ethan, let me out of this office.”
“Not a chance.” Ethan held her hand again, and this time he held her into place so she couldn’t move.
“What exactly do you want, Eve?”
What she wanted? Apologize. But this man was too stubborn and emotionless, would he ever do that?
“I want you to leave me alone.” Eve glared at him. “Don’t worry, Ethan. I won’t breach our agreement in the contract. Divorce is still impossible between us, but I just want you to—”
“Leave you alone?” Ethan completed her words. “Quit being stubborn, Eve. Just come home.”
“I won’t.” Eve shook her head.
Ethan’s eyes narrowed and he stepped forward then trapped her between the wall. “Is your grandfather even sick, Eve? Are you really at his place?”
“No, I’ve been living with that Mr.Hudson, if that’s what you want to hear.”
“You…”
“Just stay away from me.” Eve pushed him aside. “Were you so insecure to think that I’d cheat on you with that man? Tell me, how many times do I need to make myself clear that I’ll never look at another man?”
“Eve, I believe you.”
“After getting your damned test results, right!?” Eve fisted her hands. “Just get out of my sight, Ethan. I swear I’ll go savage and we both won’t like it.”
