Chapter 64: Let’s Go Home

Seduce the president?

Even walked back into the company, shoving the document folder into her bag. She didn’t even want to see that man. How was she going to seduce him?

“If you can achieve this mission, Mira, and successfully seduce the president, then we won’t hesitate from letting you in on every detail about this club. As you already know, there’s a lot more to The Ambitious Employees Club than meets the eyes.”

Amanda’s last words resounded in her mind. A lot more to the club. What other conspiracies were they hiding?

She grabbed some snacks from the cafeteria, dodging the receptionists’ area, and went to the elevator.

Eve stepped out of the elevator and walked into Mr. Clinton speaking to one of the employees.

“Hey, Mira!” On sighting her, the man waved his hand and hurried forward.

Eve grimaced and hid her face with her bag.

“Mira.” Mr. Clinton approached her as she turned around to head back into the elevator. “Why are you running away, don’t you recognize me?”

“Keep it down, Mr. Clinton.” Eve gestured for the man to lower his voice.

“Oh, right.” Mr. Clinton’s eyes darted around and he cleared his throat. “Sorry, I got too excited. Amanda told me she gave you the important mission,” he lowered his voice and said. “Mira, are you sure you can do it?”

“Be rest assured, Mr. Clinton,” Eve put down her bag and whispered. “I promised not to let you guys down. I’ll stand by my promise.”

“If you do that successfully, you will be the first woman to seduce the president in this company. Others have tried but got fired. Be careful, Mira.”

“I will.” Eve smiled sweetly. “By the way, don’t you have a meeting to go to?”

“You’re right. I came here to hand in some reports from the marketing department. Every other manager has already done that.”

“Alright, good luck, Mr. Clinton.” Eve waved him goodbye and the man nodded then hurried into the elevator.

Eve sighed and she turned around, then she came face to face with Jessie.

“Mrs. Anderson. How interesting.” Jessie grinned, making her face look more horrible due to the huge bandaid on her nose. “So you know Mr. Clinton.”

“Uhuh, so what?” Eve lifted her chin.

Jessie chuckled and shook her head. “What were you two whispering about?”

“Are you in the position for me to tell you that, Jessica? A broken nose isn’t enough, do you want a black eye?”

“You won’t dare do that.” Jessie’s expression paled. “By the way, Mrs. Anderson, it better not be what I’m suspecting. Not everyone in this company hangs out with people like Mr. Clinton.”

“That is none of your business,” Eve scoffed.

“I agree with you, Mrs. Anderson.” Jessie smiled sweetly. “But if it’s something that concerns this company, it is very well part of my business. So be careful, you might just be digging a hole for yourself.”

Eve scoffed again as Jessie walked past her into the elevator. She walked straight to her cubicle and brought out her phone to play some games.

Her eyes fell on her wristwatch now and then as several minutes passed by. When it was almost an hour, sounds of footsteps came from Ethan’s office and she looked up.

“Let’s go, Eve. We have a meeting to attend,” Ethan stood in front of her and said.

Eve pursed her lips and lowered her head to her phone then continued playing the game.

“Eve–”

“I’m not going.” Eve glared at him.

“But you’re my secretary. It is your duty to go with me,” Ethan lowered his voice. “Quit being stubborn, Evelyn.”

“Argh! Just leave me alone. I said I won’t go, I don’t want to see you!”

Murmurs came from behind her and Ethan stared at her helplessly. Then he straightened up and walked away.

Eve grumbled and glanced at the other employees before returning her attention to her phone. She played the game for hours, the clock ticking by slowly.

Eventually, the other employees left one after another. Her eyes went to the glass walls, the sun had turned orange and was sliding down the horizon.

Eve dropped her phone and glanced at her wristwatch. Was Ethan not going to come back?

She brought the snacks out of her bag and ate some before pushing them down with a bottle of water.

After waiting for two more hours, she stood up and stretched her arms, then took another look at her wristwatch before trudging into the office.

Eve walked straight to Ethan’s desk. She retrieved the chip from her bag and placed it on his chair. Then she went to the water dispenser and came back with a cup of water.

After dipping the chip inside the water, Eve sat on the chair and attached the device to the smooth surface underneath the desk.

She retrieved the document folder and flipped through it. Then she rummaged through the pile of documents on the desk and picked out a similar document then replaced it with the one in the folder before settling the folder beneath the other documents.

Eve stood up and smoothened the creases on her skirt. She returned the cup to the water dispenser, then picked up her bag and left the office.

A yawn overtook her and she covered her mouth, staggering toward the elevator.

“What are you still doing here?” Ethan walked out of the elevator, a frown forming on his face. “Aren’t you supposed to be home by now, Eve?”

“None of your business.” Eve pushed him aside and stepped into the elevator, suppressing another yawn.

“Eve–”

She took out her phone, tapped into the camera app then grabbed his necktie.

“Evelyn–”

Eve pulled him down and stood on her toes then kissed him, snapping them both with her phone.

She pulled away after some seconds, then scrolled through the photos on her phone. ‘Not the perfect angle, but they’ll do.’

“What was that supposed to mean, Evelyn.” Ethan tugged at his necktie, his eyes flashing.

“What else should it mean?” Eve scoffed. “You’re my husband, and I can do whatever I want.”

“You’re being weird.”

“Weird is my middle name.” Eve snickered and the elevator came to a stop. She stepped out and dialed a number which was instantly answered.

“Are you here yet?” She asked the person at the other end.

The driver told her yes and she sighed in relief. “I’ll be out in a few minutes.” She hung up after saying that, then dropped the phone in her bag.

“Eve, where are you going?” Ethan held her hand.

“Isn’t it obvious?” Eve wriggled her hand free. “What is it, Mr. Anderson?”

“Let’s go home, Eve.”

Eve turned around and breathed in deeply. “I have more than one home in this city, and I can go wherever I want.”

Without waiting for his next words, she gripped her bag and strode toward the entrance. The driver was already waiting with the car’s door held open.

Eve entered inside and leaned against the seat then shut her eyes.
