The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 69: You Lied To Me
Chapter 71
“Ethan, can you please make a stop at the police station?” Eve asked as the car drove out of the residential area.
“The police station?” Ethan frowned and glanced sideways at her. “Who do you want to meet?”
“I have a bone to pick with Cole. Please take me there, Ethan.” And her mind wouldn’t be at ease if she didn’t confront that rotten liar.
Ethan opened his mouth to speak but Eve’s phone rang at that moment. She brought the phone out of her bag and her eyes widened at the sight of the contact display name.
“Erhm, Hello?” Eve answered the phone and whispered.
“You are truly commendable, Mira. Those photos you sent are great. I have underestimated you again. The Ambitious Employees Club has never gotten such an ardent member.”
“You’re being humble, Amanda.” Eve laughed nervously. “I didn’t do anything extraordinary.”
“But seducing the president is an extraordinary thing.” Amanda laughed. “Now that you’ve accomplished this mission, you are fully eligible to know everything the Ambitious Employees Club is all about.”
“Really?”
“Yes, Mira. I won’t leave any detail uncovered. All I want from you is to send me more proof about you and the president. You are making our work very easy, and we owe you a very big thank you.”
“Oh, no, don’t thank me. It’s all in our favor.”
“You are so generous, Mira. That is a quality I love to see in a member. Now, about the Ambitious Employees Club—”
“Erhm, can you leave the details until we meet face-to-face, Amanda?” Eve said quickly as her eyes darted to Ethan. “This way, we can talk freely without worrying about the network traffic.”
“You’re right.” Amanda chuckled. “You’re so smart, Mira. Hackers might be listening to our conversation, who knows?”
“That’s correct.”
Eve sighed in relief after hanging up, and she dropped the phone into her bag.
“Who were you speaking with?” Ethan asked, his brows furrowing.
“A friend. It’s just a friend from work.” Eve put on a sweet smile. “Now take me to the police station, Ethan. We have to hurry.”
“We’re here,” Ethan said after a few minutes and Eve’s eyes went to the window. That was fast.
She left the car with Ethan and entered the station. After speaking with the police staff at the counter, he told them to wait for a while before leading them to a waiting room.
He returned with Cole moments later. The guy was handcuffed, and his haggard appearance made him unrecognizable.
“Evelyn, you!” Cole’s expression darkened at the sight of her. He struggled to charge at her but the policeman held him back. “I will make sure you taste what death feels like, Evelyn. You dared leave me here, right? You even instructed them not to let anyone bail me out!”
“If I let them bail you out, that means I’ll have to go into hiding. You’re still after my life, Mr. Nathan.” Eve folded her hands. “How can I be sure that your next move won’t be coming after me immediately you’re let out of here.”
“You’re not here to worsen my misery, are you, Evelyn?” Cole glared at her. “The worse thing you can do to me right now is ask them to end my life.”
“Unlike you, I’m not a murderer, Mr. Nathan.” Eve shook her head and smiled. “Until I’m comfortable enough to let you out, until you repent what you did and promise never to repeat it, I won’t let them bail you out.”
“That is never going to happen.”
“I’m not here to waste my energy on you.” Eve snaked her hands around Ethan’s arm. “I am here to tell you that your biggest lie is exposed. We didn’t meet each other before you came to the province, right? You lied to me that I saved you.”
“So what if I lied?” Cole didn’t bat an eye. “You seemed like a foolish girl. You insisted that I saved you. I decided to play along, but you turned out more foolish than I thought. You didn’t know how to keep a man, Evelyn!”
“Y–You.” Eve glared at him.
“Mia was right. Even your parents had to beg Mr. Anderson to marry you. Being in a relationship with you was nothing but a pain. I’m a man, Evelyn, how did you expect me to be okay with keeping my hands off you?”
“Idiot. So all those times you’ve been expecting me to give you my body.” Eve flared up.
“Why not?” Cole smirked. “I would even be doing you a favor. You grew up in a province, Evelyn. Buy you’re so full of yourself.”
Eve took in a deep breath and forced a smile. “And I guess you got what you wanted from Mia. That is why you took her side.”
“You are not totally dumb,” Cole gritted. “But you’re wrong, Evelyn. I didn’t go to Mia only because of that. Mia and I have been together right before you snatched everything from her, right before I saw you in that province. Imagine my surprise when the news came out that you were swapped at birth.”
“So to put it simply, you’ve been dating Mia while intending to use me.”
“Mia is the only person I love, Evelyn! Deal with it.”
“Thank goodness.” Eve smiled. “I am very glad that you didn’t turn out the one I saved, Cole. Even the heavens would be mad at me for saving such a scumbag.”
“You…”
“And for your information.” Eve went on. “Mia is wrong. My family didn’t beg Ethan to marry me. We were destined for each other right from the beginning. Am I wrong, Honey?” She smiled at Ethan and he shook his head.
“So forget about our relationship in the past. Forget about all the lies, Cole. Everything you did no longer hurt me. We were strangers from the start and that’s how it is going to be forever.”
“Evelyn, you’re going to regret this.”
“I could consider our past relationship and ask the police to be lenient on you. But we never knew each other, Cole. You don’t deserve my forgiveness or empathy.”
Cole shut his eyes, wriggling his hands to set free. “This is not over, Evelyn.” He glowered at her.
“Take him away, Officer,” Ethan said and the police officer pulled him out of the waiting room.
Eve stepped out of the police station and let out a long sigh of relief.
“Are you happy now?” Ethan stood in front of her.
“Uhuh.” Eve laughed.
Cole didn’t reveal this information to her in her past life. He never told her that he was fake and she didn’t save him. And he never told her that he had been with Mia way before he met her.
Most importantly, Ethan didn’t openly admit that he had feelings for her in her past life. Maybe he planned to do that before his car fell off the mountain cliff. Maybe this wasn’t only her second chance but his.
“We must stick with each other, Ethan. Let no one come between us.”
