Chapter 71: His Past Life

Her head was pounding again. Why couldn’t she feel her limbs? Eve forced her eyes open and a blinding light flooded her vision.

She let out a groan and turned her back to the window. The mattress beneath her was too hard, and her body ached. “You, Ethan, how many times must I tell you to stop opening the window?”

Her hands wandered to her side– she couldn’t move her hands. Why did she feel as if they were bound with a rope?

“Huh?” Eve frowned and slowly opened her eyes. The first thing that appeared in her vision was a not-so-familiar ceiling with a chandelier, followed by the face of a man.

“Ahhhhh!” The room shook with her screams and she struggled to sit up. Both her legs and hands were tied.

“You have a peculiar way to say good morning, Eve,” Wade said, grinning. “That is among the best things I like about you.”

Eve wracked her brain and the memory flooded back to her senses. She was at the driving lesson, then she went to the washroom… And then…

Damnit! This scene looked familiar. The only difference was she was bound with ropes and the idiot was wearing a shirt.

“Argh! Mr. Hudson, are you seeking death!?” Eve yelled at him.

“I’d be seeking death if I abandon you, My Love.” Wade leaned forward and she shuffled back until her back hit the headboard.

“This isn’t funny, Mr. Hudson, untie me right now and let me go.”

“This is for our good, believe me.” Wade chuckled. “If I untie you, I can’t be sure that you won’t hit me with the bedside lamp.”

“Damnit! Just untie me, pervert! What exactly do you want?”

“I want you to stay by my side, Eve.” Wade stared at her seriously. “I’m not joking. I really am in love with you. If you could divorce your husband—”

“Since when did you start liking me, Mr. Hudson.” Eve gave him a skeptical look. She didn’t even know this man in her past life. Was fate playing a joke on her?

“Since that night at the party,” Wade sat beside her and said. “Considering the things that happened before, I was shocked by that knowledge, Eve. Maybe this was why I was given a second chance. To love you truly and amend my mistakes. Can’t you see that we are destined for each other?”

Eve frowned and wriggled her hands. “You are weird, even the way you speak is weird, Mr. Hudson. Just leave me alone and stay off my back.”

“That will never happen.”

“From the looks of it, you just got released from an asylum. I will consider your case, don’t worry, and I won’t report you to the police. The only thing I want is for you to release me.”

“I wasn’t released from an asylum.” Wade shook his head. “I was released from the other world. I know you won’t understand, it is beyond the human thinking capacity. But that’s the actual truth. I am back to make things the way they were supposed to be, Eve.”

The more he spoke, the more confused Eve got. Especially now that he had on a serious look, she couldn’t conclude that he was lying.

“Mr. Hudson, please untie me.”

“That is the only thing I can’t do for you. Just stay still and you won’t feel uncomfortable.”

Eve sighed and forced herself to relax. “If you don’t untie me, Mr. Hudson, how are we going to have a proper conversation?”

“You want to have a conversation?” Wade’s eyes lit up with surprise.

“Sure, I’d like us to have a proper conversation.” Eve nodded. “You should know by now that I’m different from other people. I won’t judge you no matter what you say. Just tell me why you’re so keen on having a relationship with me.”

“Are you sure you won’t do anything crazy?” Wade didn’t look convinced.

“I am very sure, Mr. Hudson. I promise I’ll listen to what you have to say.”

“Since you’ve put it that way.” Wade shifted close and slowly untied her. “You won’t find an escape, anyways. This house is heavily guarded unlike last time.”

After untying both her hands and legs, he put the ropes aside then picked up the bedside lamps and dropped them in a far corner.

“Mr. Hudson, I’m listening.” Eve stretched her arms and sat properly.

“I told you to call me Wade.” The man smiled and sat beside her. “You are right, Eve. You are no ordinary woman. Because you weren’t this way in my previous lifetime.”

“Your previous lifetime?” Eve frowned.

“That’s right.” Wade smiled at her. “In my past life, Eve. You were a different person. You loathed your husband, and you destroyed your marriage.”

Eve’s heart pounded, her eyes fixed on his gentle smile. Did Wade also undergo rebirth? Why were things getting more complicated?

“Those actions made my mission easier. I encountered no problem in fulfilling the mission that brought me to this city.”

“W–What do you mean?”

“You accelerated my mission’s success. I got everything I wanted in the end.”

“M–Mr. Hudson.” Eve gulped. “I– I mean Wade. What mission are you talking about?”

“It’s not necessary for you to know.” Wade shook his head and smiled. “All I want you to know is, this second chance is for me to love you truly. I won’t repeat the same mistake from the past. I’ll cherish and protect you, Eve.”

Eve shifted a bit, an uncomfortable feeling building up in her stomach. “You’re still confusing me, Mr. Hudson. What is that mission about? And does it have anything to do with me?”

“You were partly part of the mission,” Wade replied. “But I’m excluding you from it in this lifetime. I included you in it in my past life, and it bore me great repercussions. Till the day I died, I lived in regret.”

“M–Mr. Hudson.” Eve’s heart pounded with fear. “W–What is that regret? And why did you exclude me from the mission now?”

“Isn’t it more than a coincidence that the very first day I woke up and flew to this city, you are the first woman I set my eyes on at that party?” He paused and sighed heavily. “My regret is ending you in my past life. Now I’m back to make sure I don’t repeat that. I’m back to love you, Eve.”
