The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 73: Her Knight In Shining Armor
Chapter 75
Before she could register anything or even be surprised at how he knew of her pregnancy goal, his hard frame towered over her, then the door slammed open and someone barged inside.
“Bad news! Bad news! Young Master!” The middle-aged-looking man trembled. His eyes were wide with fear.
“What is it, Butler? Can’t you see I’m busy?” Wade put on an irritated look and stood up.
“Young Master, it is the police! They have surrounded this house!”
“What!?” Wade exclaimed.
Eve jolted out of her shock and her eyes darted between the two. On hearing the word police, she didn’t think twice before jumping off the bed and pushing Cole aside.
She sprinted past the middle-aged man then rushed down the stairs and headed straight for the door, her heart thumping and drumming at once.
Police sirens reached her ears as she approached the gates. The security man look flustered. They banged on the gates from the outside and Eve pushed him away then fiddled with the chains used to lock the gate and flung it open.
Several eyes stared back at her, but the first person that appeared in her vision was Ethan.
“Ah!” Eve screamed and rushed into his arms. “Ethan, thank goodness you’re here! I thought I was never going to see you again. That idiot– that idiot kidnapped me!”
Eve hugged the man tight and she could feel his body loosening up.
“Are you alright?” Ethan pulled her back and surveyed her body. “What happened to your dress, Eve?”
“That idiot almost assaulted me!” Eve hugged him again and buried her face in his chest. “He’s a maniac, Ethan, a lunatic. You must get back at him for what he did.”
“It’s alright, Mrs. Anderson, you’re safe.” A female officer approached and covered her shoulders with a light blanket.
“What are you people waiting for?” Ethan’s hands wrapped around her shoulders tightly. “Apprehend that criminal, Officers.”
The police staff broke out of their shock and they all rushed into the house. While Ethan swept Eve into his arms and took her inside a car.
“It’s okay, Eve. Nothing happened, you’re safe,” he sat beside her and said softly.
Eve looked at him and sniffed, wiping off her tears. “E–Ethan.”
“Stop crying. He’s not going to come near you again, I promise.”
“I’m not crying because of that idiot.” Eve shook her head. “You came here and saved me, Ethan. That is so romantic. I’ve seen this scene so many times in movies, I never thought I’d get to experience it. I take back my words, you’re not a hopeless romantic. You’re the most romantic man alive.”
Ethan dropped his hand and frowned. Then he gave her a helpless look. “You’re not frightened?”
“I’m frightened, of course. But a bit.” Eve smiled. “And I’m so touched, Ethan. I’m so touched that you came here for me like a knight in shining armor with an entourage.” She hugged him again and nuzzled her face against his chest and Ethan pushed her away.
“Eve–”
“How did you get here, by the way?” Eve looked up at him. “Did Jonah see us when he took me away? How did you locate this place?”
“I have eyes everywhere,” Ethan replied.
Eve sighed and hugged him again despite him trying to push her away. “Argh! Stop it, Ethan. Let’s cuddle at least before the policemen return with him.”
“Mmmm, you smell so nice.” Eve sniffed him. “I’m beginning to like this idea of you having people watch over me. That Mr. Hudson is so full of himself. Can you imagine what he said?” She clicked her tongue. “That man thought that he could keep me with him forever.”
And he turned out to be her killer in her past life. But why? What did she do to him?
“Ethan.” She stared into his eyes and said seriously. “I have a feeling that that man is dangerous. We must be careful around him.”
“Whatever he is, the police will take care of him.” Ethan stroked her hair. “He can’t do anything to you.”
“That’s right.” Eve nodded. “As long as I have you by my side, Honey. No one can even dream of harming me.”
Ethan brought out his phone and tapped into it.
“What are you doing?” Eve craned her neck to sneak a peek.
“Texting,” Ethan replied. “Keep still, Eve. We’ll go to the hospital after the police are done.”
“Huh?” Eve looked away from the phone. “I told you I’m fine, Ethan. Now, stop texting the doctor.” She took the phone from him. “Or do you suspect that something happened between me and that man? Are you planning to repeat what you did before?”
Ethan stared at her for a few seconds. “I just want to make sure that you’re alright. Stop thinking too far.”
“Well, if that’s the case.” Eve hugged his arm and smiled sweetly. “How about you take me straight home and let’s cuddle all day? This way, all my anxiety will ease away. I don’t need to see a doctor for this minor thing.”
“But–”
“No buts.” Eve placed a finger on his lips, shushing him. “Apart from feeling hungry, nothing is wrong with me, Honey. I know you care about me, but this isn’t the right time to fret.”
“Are you sure?” Ethan asked and she nodded.
Eve opened her mouth to speak then her eyes went to the car’s window. The policemen had returned.
She left the car with Ethan and frowned, looking at the only two captives. The policemen only returned with that butler and the security man.
“Where is the criminal?” Before Eve could ask, Ethan said out her confusion.
“We have ransacked the whole house, Mr. Anderson. We couldn’t find the man you claimed to have kidnapped your wife.”
“That is strange.” Eve looked at Ethan. Then she pointed at the Butler. “Ask this man, Officer. He was inside the house with the criminal. He was even the one that came in and alerted Mr. Hudson of your arrival.”
“Are you sure about that, Miss?” The Butler stared at her in confusion. “Don’t believe her, Officer. This is my first time seeing this lady. And I know not of the Mr. Hudson she speaks about.”
“Ah, he’s lying.” Eve stared at the man in wonder. “Ask this security man. He also knows the truth.”
“Young Lady, I didn’t even know when you entered this house,” the security man said. “You must be one of those thieves that sneak in at night.”
“Y–You.” Eve pointed at him.
“Take them away, Officer. Investigate them properly. They must know where the criminal is,” Ethan said darkly.
“Don’t worry about that, Mr. Anderson. We will carry out a thorough investigation,” the officer reassured. “These two men look suspicious, anyways. We won’t rest until they disclose the criminal’s whereabouts.”
As the policemen pushed the security man and the Butler inside their cars, Eve’s eyes lingered on the mansion building.
That was strange. The policemen said that they’d ransacked the whole place. How could he disappear so easily?
