The President's Daring Wife
Chapter 75: A Very Important Task
Chapter 77
“Madam. Madam.” Eve could feel someone tapping her cheek. Something cold dribbled down her face and she fought to open her eyes.
“Thank goodness, Madam.” Elena’s face appeared in her vision.
Eve struggled to sit up and pressed a hand to her pounding forehead. “W–What happened, Elena?”
“You fainted on the stairs.” Elena helped her up. “Madam, please tell me you’re not alright so we can go to the hospital.”
Eve’s eyes wandered around the living room as she tried to take in her surroundings. “I fainted?” She asked and Elena nodded.
The large doors opened and a maid walked inside. “Madam, you’ve woken up. Thank heavens.” The maid smiled and hurried forward. “Here’s some glucose. It can help replenish your energy.”
Eve took the glucose jar from her and took some of it. How the hell did she faint?
“Madam–”
“Don’t worry, Elena. I’m fine.” Eve kept the glucose aside and looked up.
“But you just fainted, Madam.”
“Seriously, it’s nothing to worry about.” Eve let out a dry laugh, doing her best to hide her confusion. “I can now recall that I tripped on my legs while walking down the stairs. I had a bit of a concussion. That should be the reason why I passed out.”
“Really, Madam?”
“Definitely.” Eve smiled. “Stop worrying over such minor things. As I’ve said before, Elena. I’ll take immediate action once I found out I’m sick.”
“Please do that. And be careful next time when you walk down the stairs. I was scared to death when I saw you lying there unconscious.”
“I’m so sorry for that.”
“No, I should apologize, Madam. I was supposed to make sure nothing harms you, but I’ve let you down.”
Eve stared at the Stewardess, biting her lips. “You worry too much, Elena.” She hugged her. “I told you to stop acting this sweet with me. I’m not used to that.”
“You deserve to be pampered, Madam. You’re also a sweet person.” Elena hugged her back before pulling away.
“Elena, I’m hungry.”
“Huh?” Elena looked confused. “But you ate dinner not long ago.”
Well, Eve had thrown it all up. The dinner didn’t stay in her stomach. “Please cook me something light. And maybe don’t add onions.”
“Right away, Madam. Please give me a few minutes.” Elena stood up and left for the kitchen, while the maid stayed behind and kept her company.
“Your body looks weak, Madam.” The maid pointed out. “Take more glucose, it’ll help you regain some of your energy.”
Eve opened the glucose jar and took some. The sweet thing was so satisfying.
“Madam, wait–”
Eve took more of it and couldn’t stop. The more she ate the glucose, the more she wanted more.
“You’re not supposed to take this much, Madam.” The maid tried to stop her. “Please put it down already.” She held the jar to take it away but Eve held on tight to it.
“Let go, Camila.” She snatched the jar back and shifted away from the maid. “I think you should get me more of this often.”
“But your health, Madam.” The maid sighed heavily. “Too much of it is very bad for your health.”
“Urgh, just let me have it. It’s not like I’m eating junk, glucose is a healthy substance.”
The maid pursed her lips and stood in a corner. Eve finished up all the glucose and gave the empty jar back to her.
“Can you get me more, Camila?” She smiled sweetly.
“No.” Camila turned her down instantly. “Madam, you just finished a whole jar. If something happens to your health, I’ll be held responsible.”
“Let’s just keep it as a little secret between us,” Eve whispered. “Come on, Camila. You can’t deny me another jar of glucose.”
“No way.” The maid shook her head then walked out of the living room.
Eve groaned and slumped on the coach. That glucose seemed to be the only thing her stomach wanted to agree with. She must find more of it.
Her eyes lingered on the blank TV, and moments later, a delightful aroma wafted through the air.
Eve rose to her feet and strolled toward the dining room. “This is nice, Elena. Thank you.” Her eyes lightened up at the sight of the food.
“It is partly junk, Madam. There’s too much flour in it. Please don’t eat much.”
“Got it.” Eve nodded and began eating, while Elena went back to the kitchen.
“Ah! Madam!” When Elena returned with a glass of pineapple juice, she covered her mouth and stared at the table in shock. “I told you not to finish that food.”
“Oh, come on.” Eve patted her stomach and stood up. “You made such delicious food, Elena. How could you expect me not to finish it?” She took the pineapple juice then sipped some before giving back the glass.
“But, Madam…”
“Have a great night, Elena.” Eve waved at her then made her way upstairs, gripping the railing hard. It was hard to keep up on her wobbly feet. Seemed like she needed more rest.
But the bed was too cold and empty. The room was, in fact, scary. Really, that Ethan. How could her husband be so heartless?
Eve picked up her phone and dialed his number. It was switched off. ‘Urgh.’
She lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling for a long time. She only fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning. Thankfully, she didn’t throw up again. But there was this weird feeling in her stomach. What was happening?
The next morning, she woke up to the ringing tone of her phone. Eve picked it up, expecting it to be Ethan. But the name displayed on the screen read ‘Amanda.’
“Hi, Amanda.”
“Hello, Mira. I’m so sorry to call this early. I hope I didn’t interrupt your sleep.”
“No, not at all.” Eve shook her head.
“You know today is the weekend and we’re all supposed to be resting at home. But no one can deny an important work.”
“Did something come up?” Eve frowned.
“A very important task is looming ahead, Mira. I just called to inform you that you must attend the meeting on Monday. You didn’t show up in the last four days, I hope everything is fine.”
“I was a bit sick, Amanda.”
“I very much thought so. You were so eager to know everything about the club. I was surprised that you didn’t show up at the meeting.”
“Yeah.”
“Get well soon, Mira. You must be present at that meeting. I hope you show up.”
“I will.” Eve hung up and put the phone aside. Just as she was about to go down from the bed and enter the bathroom, a loud voice came from the door.
“What are you still doing in there, Evelyn! I heard my Big Bro has traveled. This Young Master can finally have his revenge on you!”
