Chapter 77: Keep This A Secret

Eve held her stomach and stepped out of the house, sighing heavily. The nausea kept increasing. She threw up more than twenty times yesterday, and the Stewardess’s worry increased with each passing moment.

Not a moment went by without Elena urging her to go to the hospital.

“Where are you off to, Madam?” Elena met her in the doorway. “You’re sick, Madam. You’re not thinking of going to work, right?”

Eve squinted her eyes at the sun before looking at the woman. “Erhm, it’s almost afternoon. I wouldn’t go to work at this time of the day.”

“Are you sure, Madam?” Elena narrowed her eyes.

“Yeah. I’ll go to the hospital and come back,” Eve replied and held the straps of her bag tight.

“Finally.” Elena’s expression eased with relief. “Please do go to the hospital. And make sure you tell the doctor every symptom you’ve been experiencing recently. Would you like me to go with you?”

“No, please don’t.” Eve waved her hand. “I’ll be fine, Elena. I’ve already made the appointment last night. The doctor is expecting me.”

“Okay.” Elena smiled. “Make sure you don’t wander off, Madam. You know how dangerous it is. We don’t want you bumping into that Mr. Hudson.”

“I’ll be careful,” Eve reassured. She waved her goodbye then headed to the parking lot.

That Wade was weird. The police informed them that even after investigating the Butler and the security man again and again, they still stood their ground that they knew nothing about him.

Hopefully, they would spill out the truth soon so the police could arrest him. Eve never wanted to set eyes on that man again.

Ethan’s driver was already waiting in the car, and she entered inside then rested her head on the seat’s headrest and closed her eyes.

Eve rubbed her stomach as a numbing but subtle pain coursed through it. It wasn’t what she was thinking, right?

She took in a deep breath then opened her eyes and looked out of the window as the car drove through the city.

Several minutes later, the car arrived at the hospital and the driver dropped her at the parking lot.

Eve left the car and put on her face mask. She entered the elevator which took her up to the gynecology department and she went straight to the doctor’s office.

“Mrs. Anderson, you’re here.” The OB-GYN smiled at her. “After the phone call with you last night, I couldn’t wait to meet you this morning. Those symptoms you said you’re experiencing, are you sure about them?”

“Yes, Doc.” Eve shook the lady’s hands and sat down. “It’s getting hard to eat because I lose my appetite whenever I see food. And I can’t sleep properly at night, because I can’t stop vomiting.”

“Mmm.” The lady nodded in understanding and smiled. “Let me see your hand, Mrs. Anderson.”

Eve extended her hand and the OB-GYN took it then placed two fingers behind her wrist. A few seconds went by. Her brows furrowed then she lifted her head, her expression brightening.

“Mrs. Anderson, I think I know what is happening.”

“You do?” Eve hesitated before asking. “Please tell me, Doc.”

“But I can’t conclude things yet.” The OB-GYN sat on her chair then scribbled some notes on a piece of paper. She made a phone call after that and a staff came inside.

“Please take Mrs. Anderson to the lab and collect her sample then carry out these tests. I need the results as soon as possible.”

“Right away, Doc.” The staff took the note from her and asked Eve to follow her.

After her samples were collected, Eve returned to the OB-GYN’s office while they waited for her result.

“Is there any other symptom you’re experiencing, Mrs. Anderson?” The lady smiled. “Please do tell me. It will help me make a proper diagnosis.”

“Those are the only symptoms,” Eve said softly. “And my body feels weak all the time, especially in the morning.”

“It’s called morning sickness. It will eventually go away?”

“Huh?” Eve frowned and the lady covered her mouth.

“Oops. That came out too fast.” She chuckled. “Don’t mind me, Mrs. Anderson. I guess I was just too excited.”

“What are you excited about, Doc?” Eve didn’t know why her heart was suddenly beating more than normal.

The OB-GYN was about to reply to her question, but the staff came inside and gave her the lab results.

She went through the results, her expression getting brighter. Then she looked up at Eve and grinned. “Congratulations, Mrs. Anderson. You’re pregnant.”

“What!?” Eve sprang to her feet. She wasn’t supposed to be this surprised, but the shock was too much to handle nevertheless. “D–Do you mean…”

“Yes, Mrs. Anderson.” The doctor also stood up. “Your pregnancy is three weeks old. I bet you and Mr. Anderson have been working hard. Your determination is truly commendable.”

Eve dropped on the chair and placed a hand on her chest. “I– I am pregnant?”

“You look so shocked.” The doctor laughed. “That’s right, you’re three weeks pregnant. Now let’s see how your baby is doing. I’ll give you an ultrasound.”

Eve rose to her feet, her heart still beating wildly. She strolled to the narrow bed and the lady made her lie down before lifting her dress and rubbing some liquid on her stomach. Then she rotated the wand over her stomach while studying a monitor on the wall.

Eve stared at the monitor. She couldn’t see anything. Was she really pregnant?

“There is the fetus.” The doctor pointed at a spot on the screen. “Oh, Wow! They’re two, Mrs. Anderson.”

Eve’s heart jolted, then it stopped beating. “T–Two babies?”

“Yeah.” The doctor nodded. “You’re amazing, Mrs. Anderson. You’re carrying two babies.”

Eve forced a smile and carefully sat up after the OB-GYN was done. She rubbed her stomach and glanced at the monitor again. She was pregnant. She was carrying two babies.

“This is a double celebration.” The lady removed the gloves from her hands. “I bet Mr. Anderson and the whole family will be over the moon to hear this news.”

Ethan? His family?

Eve’s heart began sinking and she got down from the bed then sat on the chair. The OB-GYN also sat on her chair then wrote some words down on the paper.

“I will prescribe you some medicines, Mrs. Anderson. They are safe for a pregnant woman and they’ll reduce some of those symptoms. But know that the symptoms are normal, and with time they’ll go away on their own.”

Eve took the paper from her and stared at it. The symptoms would go away… That was good.

“Doc.” She sighed and stood up. “Can you please keep this a secret? I don’t want anyone to know that I’m pregnant, especially my husband.”

“Huh?”
